well do they? In particular do both players have to agree to agree on special characters before you can take Nasdreg Ug Urdgrub?

Unless the Ork codex has been errataed (is that a word?), then yes, they'll have to agree. But if it fits your army's background, I see no reason why they'd disagree.

Surely both players have to argee for all special characters, why should it be different for Orcs? Is it different for Orcs?

Unfortunately, in most of the new codices the “requires opponents consent” has been removed…
Yes but has it been removed from the orcs codex (I cant find the apropriate FAQ)
I thought they had removed the "requires opponents consent" rule for all special characters. Granted I don't have any of my books in front of me right now so I can't varify that but I thought I remember reading somewhere that the only limitation left on special characters was the army point minimum's.
The rule book says that some special character can only be used with thhe oponent permission. Is there a FAQ out there that lets me use orc special characters?

I think that for most special characters they are removing the opponent's consent rule, but for special/powerful ones like, say, for instance Ghazgkhull, you still need consent. I would expect this is the same for Nazdreg, but perhaps Dok Grotsnik and Wazdakka will not ned consent?

I thought that only the Nightbringer/deceiver could be fielded without the opponents approval...
Nope, all the more recent special characters can be fielded without opponent's approval (effectively making them tourenment-legal). All the characters in the new Marine codex can be fielded without requiring approval for instance.
The Special Characters in the new SM codex does not require your opponents permition to use.

Common sense denies usage of special characters if point limit is small.
FE: C´tan would NEVER go on patrol, becose he must have some better things to do.
But don't most special characters have restrictions on when you can use them, i.e only in armies larger than 1,500, stopping you using them silly little patrols, etc?

yeah, I think so... but just looked in my Necron codex... the C'tan don´t got any point restrictions till when to use them...![]()
but then again you must have two troop choices and it will be a lot of points still... about 700-800p with 20 warrior and a deciever/nightbringer...
I finally got around to looking this up in the BGB and pg 52 is pretty clear that special characters almost always have a point restriction and there are still a few that also require both players to agree to their use.
While I think it's a bit odd that you don't need a size limit or permission to use a C'Tan I would guess that the reason is to represent the idea that they pretty much come and go as they please and only they know why.
