Exclamation Characters, Assault Termies + transports

Sorry if these haven't been discussed before, but...

If a character (Librarian, Chaplain) in terminator armour joins a terminator assault squad with tank hunter/furious charge, would

    a) The assault terminators be able to use their skill during the game, just not the character,

    b) The assault terminators would not be able to use their skill, as the character isn't able to purchase it because the termies aren't a command squad, or

    c) Neither?

Second question is: If I put a LRCrusader and said squad of assault termies in reserve and I want to deploy them together, do I have to make two rolls or one when turn 2 comes up? The rulebook says units and 'attached' transports make only one roll, but doesn't specify any further about whether they're just talking about dedicated transports, whatnot.

    Thanks for any help.

It's option A. If you look in your BBB on page 74, you'll see that skills marked with an asterisk (*) are lost by units that are joined by a character without the skill and vice versa. And there's no asterisk with the Furious Charge skill.
It's the same with Tank Hunter.

The second question is bugging me as well... But I think you can make one roll for both. I can't give you page references but it just feels right.

Same thing with a Chaplain (with jump pack) and an assault squad. I feel that if the player states beforehand that the Chaplain will join the squad, he should be allowed to make one reserve roll for the both of them.

If someone would care to enlighten us?

The rules are debatable on this and so some common sense must be applied.

If you declare that a character is joining a unit prior to the game, it makes sense that you make one roll for them. To do otherwise would be crazy. For example, I plan to drop-pod in a sqaud with an attached character. They are all waiting up in orbit ready to decend. If I have to make a seperate roll for the character what exactly does this represent? That the guy might have missed the drop pod launch for the squad he was leading? That then means he has to enter play on foot yet he is stuck up in orbit!!!

Same argument in a land-based vehicle. The LRC or rhino or whatever, isn't going to leave without him.

There can only be one way to play this. Squad + Transport and/or Character(s)= ONE roll.

Even though it seems a bit odd, it says clearly under reserves on p 84 of the BGB: "Each selection from the Force Organisation chart is diced for separately at the start of the players turn." It also mentions that if the squad has a transport attached (i.e. a dedicated transport) you roll for both together. It does not mention anything about characters.

If you want your character to lead a squad in a transport or Drop Pod, simply buy the squad as a retinue for the character.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you are trying to say... Are you pointing us to some threads on the GW forums?

He's saying that Pete Haines has clarified the reserves question on the GW boards.

    It's here , 6th question down.

In short, "If you want him to turn up with a unit give him a retinue."

    it is not "some" threads
    it is THE thread
when it happened, every second thread on the GW forums was one of:
    -a rant
    -insult
-asking for clarifications about the clarifications

Basically, you can not due the following

    1) take a 9 strong tactical squad, give it a drop pod, attach a commander to it, and have them deep strike in together. The commander must be bought his own drop pod, or be bought a command squad and have the whole squad be bought it's own drop pod.

The same goes for bike squads, assault squads, ect. It's why alot of white scars and ravenguard players are upset. We can't buy bike or assault command squads. So if our army starts in reserve, and our HQ has a bike or jump pack, he must enter on his own, making him rather vulnerable.

I am guessing if you have a terminator assault squad in a LRC, you would have to make 2 reserve rolls for the unit to enter the table, one for the LRC and one for the Terminators, as the LRC is not available as a dedicated transport for Terminators.

That seems strange, as normal Land Raiders are. Haven't anyone fixed that?

I guess it boils down to whatever you and your opponent agree to and what feels right. If you want to play strictly by the rules you can; if you want a house rule for it which you think makes more sense then go for it.

Re: Characters, Assault Termies + transports

Thanks to everyone for helping out!

So basically the FAQ is saying that I can't bring the HQ, T. assault squad and LRC on at the same time. Unfortunately, assault termies aren't an option for command squads, so that isn't open to me In short, 3 reserve rolls = sucky...

    Thanks again, guys!
