The rampaging green tide of athamas

well i finaly managed to track down my order from thewarstore.com

stupid customs did not send me an updated tracking number, so its a new uni term, and i have an army to construct..

    so, i have

3 battle for skull pass box sets,
    1 nightgoblin regiment box
    1 bag of regiment bases
    a large supply of plasticard
my box of usefull bits i brought with me [also contains all the chaos hounds for my chaos army... but more importantly my improved squig hoppers and supply of fanatics]

and on a very happy note, i also managed to pic up both a hero basing kit and an urban basing kit from the local GW suplier near my uni...

    so, i have:
    120 spear goblins
    60 bow goblins
    20 h-armless goblins
    30 spider riders
    3 trolls
    ~16 squig hoppers
    ~9 fanatics
    + various characters...

[and a load of dwarfs to trade of keep, not sure which yet]

althogh i have not decided on my army composition yet, i really like the idea of 2 or 3 big blocks of night goblins [49 in 7*7] armed with Hw&S as the core of my army... [each unit comes in at a little over 200pts without fanatics]

the problem is i dont have that many night goblins with hw&s, so im going to convert several of the skull pass ones to hand weapons [using plasticard gs and bordem] as well as using regenment bases to add guys who are armed with the wrong weapon in aswell...

the oly thing now is, do i extend the regement bases to be 7 log, rather than 5...

    for:
? will allow me to use 3:2:2 ratio of hand weapon, bow, spear, in most cases, going for the majority rule of most of them are armed with hand weapons [depending on how well the converting goes this number may be increased if i feel like it] allowing me to use up more archers and spear goblins
    ? less models to move
? less likely to lose them
? easier to batch paint [mass dry brushing ok robes]
    ? look dynamic

    against:
? im stuck with 7 wide units
? i would have have to extend the current regiment bases
? 3:1:1 units would be easier to identify what the unit was

so, do you think i should go with the 7 wide or the 5 wide? im leaning towards the 7 wide, as it would be more fun, and i would have the front rank of the unit all armed with the crrect weapons so that it does look right...

also... what do i do with an army of dwarfs?

Sounds like a huge amount of work. Even w/ "batch" painting. Get yourself a can of "All-in-one Polyshades/Minwax" in case ya' wanna dip. Goblin Green and some metallic basecoats look rather decent w/ a coat of Antique Walnut and then re-highlighted w/ the base color.

As for the unit size, I'm really in favor of horde armies having huge ass blocks of infantry. My vamps never have less than 35 Zombies or 30 Skellies to start- remember, I can add to the unit size. So, there's my suggestion.

    Good luck

    Good luck
The Skellies never start with more either!

Athamas, I am planning to do a similar thing. I have 2 Skull passes though. And I plan to convert the spider riders out of the Night Goblins.

Re: The rampaging green tide of athamas

rite, the hoard needs some ranged fire power.... possibly alot...

this means Spear chukkas, 4 of them at 2k..

problem... GW spear chukkas cost £8 each, and come with comon goblins

i can get a skull pass box for that much... and i want night goblins to be manning them..

soloution.... build my own damn things from styrene...

    so, what do you think?

needs some gaps filling with GS or milliput, and i need to do something with the base... but need a theme first...

im gona start work on the second one....

    so far spent ~$2.50...

so $5 for 4 of them is not bad going in my opinion, works out at just over 50p each...

Ah, very nice execution. You gave me an idea there for my Lotr dwarves...

Also, seeing a number of people in the states or in the British Isles buying two, three or ever four boxes of Skull Pass has answered my question to the local video games shop manager why all BFSP packs have run out of stock at the moment.

Re: The rampaging green tide of athamas

well in england we are screwed, we pay £40 each, i got 3 from the war store, delivered [which came to almost 1/4 of the cost] for £72 [and then about £15 customs]

so for £87 i got £120 worth of skull pass's

then with trading that everyone is doing you can make a goblin or dwarf army very cheaply...

Those BBTs (Budget Bolt Throwers) are not half bad! Just do not waste goblins with bows on crew. You've got only 60 of them.

The speer chukkaz would look a lot better if you took a file or knife and got rid of some of the sharp edges, and made the metal parts more "metal" and the frame more tree like before you paint it

    Still looking good though

Yeah, I agree with sLai: it should be monkeyed around with a bit (rivets, dents, etc.), but besides that, it is spot on.

I've essentially done the same thing, I used a giant to fill in my large point gap at the end. I've got 3 boxes of SP and a giant but at the moment I'm waiting for the new trolls to come out. So far I've prefered to keep out the Squig hoppers but they would be a blast to convert, what do you think you're going to do with yours?

Note: the goblin archers are the best infantry models in the box.

Not only that, but I do not see Goblins to be h-t-h killing machines. A lucky git might hit a barn with an arrow (if there is 60 like gits) on the other hand.
A mate of mine recently has killed a dragon slayer with these...
