    Re: Rovaan 22nd Counter-Insurgents

    Leman Russ M-2 wip:

The Russ, unlike Kasrkin's Stug conversion, only uses the parts in the Leman Russ kit, (plus heavy weapons from the IG teams)

    Troop WIP:

    Helmets and re-breather
Using the HW heads with sunglasses as a guide, I first greenstuffed a lower face mask blended with the chinstrap. some 'vents' (scored lines) are made on the right side. I don't have many tools avaliable, but use an exacto-knife for most flattening and GS manipulation.
For the majority of heads I had to GS my own shades first, using a knife to score the outline.
I then use the slight barrel exposure of a lasgun (between the cowling and the tip) to add a re-breather to the left side of the mask.
    Lasgun modification
The guns have been cut off in line with the end of the mini-scope.
In most cases left hand had to be carefully shaved off and moved down the grip.
The clip is made from plasticard, or in earlier cases shaved-down sprue.
For the barrel I have used the old barrel with the front sliced flat and turned backwards and upside down
At this time Ive got plenty of the heads (enough for the rest of the BF guard) at this modeling stage, and maybe another 4 guns to prep

    Re: Rovaan 22nd Counter-Insurgents

Here is one of the heavy weapon teams. I've gone with Sheep's idea to make the second gunner removable. I did not want him to not stick off as much from the base, so I devised the following process to allow a base to plug into the HW team.

    How it looks finished:

The Autocannon is also interchangeable with a Lascannon

    - I like the new Russ chassis look. How'd you create the sponsons? Furthermore, did you make any modifications to the track/chassis? I can't see any major changes other than the guns, turret and tracks.

    - An easier method that I took to make removeable Heavy Weapon loaders was by 25mm plug cutter to a sheet of 1mm Plastikard. Alternatively, you could sand the regular base until all you have left is the circle.

    - I like your whole squad conversion to a shortened lasgun - it's great for an enforcement type of unit. How are you planning on making the Autocannon-Lascannon interchangeable?

The new sponsons (dealing with one for the explaination) consists of two components, the 'stand' which is attached to the Russ, and the Gun itself
The stand : when I lowered the Russ's profile, it involved slicing a section of the wall of the tank, lowering it about half an inch. this half-inch wide leftover was cut in half and forms the t-bone stand. the end with the gun has a circle that normally holds a wheel.
The gun : simply involved the sloped bottom of the sponson box, coupled with the front sponson bit, cut down to hug the Heavy Bolter. The HB itself had a stick protruding out where the usual HW tripod goes. this probably could've just used the normal tri-pod plug though, or a magnet.

the chassis had the drivers compartment extended with remaining sponson parts, and was put together a bit more compacted, ill give another pic

Yep, cutting in a circle was a pain... but Ive got two done so far now...

The auto cannon is already interchangeable, no glue was used on the weapon support/weapon plug, or the controls held by the gunner. The plug on the gun holds the options in place.

looking good mate!! small but subtle conversions are great for creating a unique regiment, its good to see another guard player around!!
I really need to update my project log...

one thingyou might consder is using magnets for the heavey weapon loaders. with mine i just make senic base with milliput and then put in a small magnet, with a matching one on the loaders foot, its not that strong, but easily strong enough to hold him in place during a normal game, and its alot less hassle than the method your using.

I really like the alternative russ bty, very cool!

    good luck!

Very good Guard models indeed, and the russ is just lovely. Perhaps it could be of the Othrelion pattern?

Pretty impressive Russ! I'll be watching this!

As for the sentinel, here's what you do. Look for an airfix 1/72nd model tank. I used a tiger (something or other, don't remember what version) for mine. I don't really want to post a picture, but it's the best way to show what I did: I'll remove it if you request.

The airfix kits (I think their notorious for their poor quality actually) are super cheap, I got mine for $6 from a toy store!

    Re: Rovahn 22nd Counter-Insurgents

That looks cool Scrubout, kinda what i was aiming for, but I wanted to give it a better sense of scale, by giving it a sort of ridable tarantula kind of look, rather than like a miniature tank. heres what ive got so far... planning on taking the outer track plate and leftover tracks as far as they will go (i could save myself trouble if i had plasticard)
here is what ive got so far:

i sort of rounded part of the plate when i thought it would just have triangular track sections, ill have to gs it back to normal. my intention is to give it a lascannon/armoured crew, though a catachan pattern might be more fluffy, flushing out buildings in urban raids, etc
    more tank pics for awesomeness:

    Re: Rovahn 22nd Counter-Insurgents

new pics of my counts as sentinel wip:

I want the entire thing to be inclosed, the weapon will ideally be hull-mounted,
preferably a lascannon (one that is usually hull mounted on Russ) for some quick and dirty tank hunting
Let me know what you guys think! (ps, looks cooler in rl, very, erm... cute)

    Re: Rovahn 22nd Counter-Insurgents

    Ask and ye shall recieve:

behold the 'cyclops' pattern urban tank killer (still a wee bit wip)

I can't help but see a toothy grin emanating from the back of this beast. The turret rotates (held by a greenstuff bottom plate on the inside and that 'reversed spotlight' top plate)
Im proud that aside from a bit of plasticard I pilfered from some Ork thingy, this beast is nearly 100% extras from the Russ kit.

Also, Ive been thinking of changing my scheme a tad, I might go for catachan green as a swap with the blue. Ive recently stumbled upon lots of logs (scrubs etc) with the exact same colors better executed, and now I personally don't feel all that special

and Voronwe[MQ], Othrelion eh? Aside from the Oth referencing norse myth, cannot tell what it means (I would like to know if it has some additional meaning)

PS, lets get some comments people...

Quite so sheep! As Ive said elsewhere, its your autogun conversion along with a few other interesting works that got me into this mess; but don't worry, Im not mad at you

Now the magnet idea is really taking shape: Im thinking of leaving the swivel bit in the tank, then magnetizing the lascannon, and heavy flamer for swapping goodness!

    - Nice! It's a neat little turret bit that you've got there.

Ive recently stumbled apon lots of logs (scrubs etc) with the exact same colors, and now i personally dont feel all that special
    - Don't worry about the similarity to mine - those 5 men are the only ones with that scheme in an army of 300ish . You've done a nice paintjob on those, and I perfer the blue to the green, though a grey-green army might look nice.

    - I like the tankette as a whole, but I don't quite like that exhaust pipe thing on top. Maybe a car-style muffler would suit it better? I dunno, it just seems like it's inside out .

    Re: Rovahn 22nd Counter-Insurgents

I see what your saying about the exhaust, It doesn't look to follow Imperial Armour design, and sticks out too much.
I'm home for the weekend, picked up some other stuff I had stored; namely assassins and arbites. Turns out I've got the sarge, 1 grenade launcher, 2 shotguns and 2 bolters. This means I'm going to have to convert a bolter into another gl for them to form a legal squad. Should be fun...

Great conversions, but I don't like the paint job. A khaki color under the grey armor would serve you far better than the baby-blue.
