Thread: Mini Movie Reviews

    YEAR ONE

Jack Black's excursion into the first half of the Old Testament. I felt the dialogue was too deadpan, and budget constrained when you look at the props and settings.

The film seemed tired and the actors looked like they were going through the motions, though some of the biblical quotes were great. Despite the great potential for fun when discovering circumcision, Harold Ramis goofed.

I'm not sure it's even worth renting when it comes out on DVD.

I think I may soil everyones eyes with this review

Bought it for the gf a few weeks ago,

    Film: - Super Mario Bros.

I actually think its pretty darn good, if you dont take it as being entirely related to the game it has some interesting plot devices and the set designs are very interesting, dare I say the cars and dinosaur city are cool

I would say buy it and watch it without any views on the game, I think you will find it enjoyable

Just watched Dead Man's Shoes for the first time tonight...

Blimey, that is a film and a half...very much reccomended by me...solid low budget British revenge film, fantastically acted (in particular Toby Kebbel, who was also in RockaRolla I think) and great twist (although fairly obvious) towards the end...Reminded me a bit of The Limey with Terence Stamp...

I always loved SMB. A solid interpretation of the game IMO.

    Ice Age 3.

Much better than the 2nd one. Simon Pegg's Buck the one-eyed weasel pretty much steals the show. Quite a lot of inuendo and some discussion of childbirth (nothing specific) which I found refreshing.

If you liked the original one and didn't mind the sequal then you should like the 3rd.

Both Dead Man's Shoes and The Limey are brilliant, understated movies with excellent central performances from the lead actors.

If you like films, you should definitely check these out.

[QUOTE=Winimperial;1374435]Borat: One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Sacha Baron Cohen is a genious.

    Heres my rant.
Ive been waiting a long time to say it.
    Borat. Borat, borat, borat.
Worst piece of crap Ive ever watched.
It was so bad I struggled to watch it, I stopped watching it halfway and forced myself to finish it the next day.
FYI Sacha Baron Cohen is not a genius. His merely being rascist for shock value and being so outrageously ignorant its rediculous.
Its not funny, the jokes fall flat, the only funny things in it are few in number and quick to get old.
Hate how its portrayed, hate his humour, hate Sacha Baron Cohen.
This piece of #!*& needs to be exterminated.
Mind you I love comedy, not the Hollywood crap, i like a good movie but despite what anyone says its garbage.

I think then that you completely missed the point of Cohen's humour.

Agreed, he is doing the opposite of most of the things you accuse him of TheBloodyFistOfKhaine.

Yeah, I think he's a fantastic actor; worth seeing 'My First Summer of Love', he plays a reformed ex-convict-turned Born-Again Christian-verging on total nutter.

Actually, the whole point is that the character shows people's ignorance/racism/misogyny through their reactions to what he says/does.

I've not screamed with laughter at anything before or since watching the scene in the hotel... I still can't believe the (literal ) cheek they showed doing that...

    Re: Mini Movie Reviews

I also enjoyed both Borat and Bruno, but that said, I don't think there is anywhere left for Cohen to go with this type of thing. I'd quite like to see him in more scripted roles. He was great in Sweeney Todd.

    Oh yes, I see.
He was fantastic in that movie, I wouldnt say he made it but I thought every actor did very well in that movie.
I do not hate Cohen, I hate Borat and Bruno, I dont think they're funny, I dont see what people see in them.
I will admit though he can act, I never said he couldnt act.

    Re: Mini Movie Reviews

People see someone who can bring out the truth in peoples' prejudices and show how shallow they are. Hence why you seem to have missed exactly what those characters are supposed to be doing and thus do not get Cohen.

H has it spot on. Unfortunately, like the Chaser boys, I think Cohen has reached his zenith. If he is smart, he will bunk out now. If not, we will see him slide down the same slippery slope to mediocrity.

They seem to be doing more overseas skits. Probably because Australia is so small that everyone has heard of them by now.

They could mine the US and Britain for years though.
