Yme-Loc: the journey of self biased

UPDATED!!!!! January Twentieth, two thousand eleven.

i've changed my craftworld scheme at least half a dozen times. i'll be damned if i let some recent arrival thwart me from that, right? i'd even sent my wife out to get the paints i'll need. i came to this decision before i found out of my club's recent arrival, but i've decided to damn the torpedoes and continue along my own path.

    models purchased:
    [six] war walkers
[one] wraithlord [or as i refer to it, dreadnought.]
    [sixteen] guardians
    [ten] dire avengers
    [six] howling bainshidhe
    [six] fire dragons
    [two] support platforms
    [one] mk 2 falcon
    [one] bonesinger.

amongst others. i suppose i could include the phantom titan, but that will ultimately be tha last thing i paint. i plan on going with a sort of 'digital distortion' scheme with vehicles, and a spectrograph sort of orange wossname on said vehicles. sorry to be vague (sp?), but my eagernes to post the thread has exceeded any painting.

    yrs,
    mister biased.

Intrigued as to how this will come out.

IIRC, the Yme-Loc colorscheme, is ,um, to put it mildly, difficult to pull off well.

Like how you mention the "howling bainsidhe"

Grey and orange; meh, could be good, could be dull. I'll be very interested to see it though.

    Looking forward to pics.

Re: Yme-Loc: the journey of self biased

huzzah, and rejoyce! i've gotten a new digicam and will take pictures in the next few days, with even money on monday morning. i work the night shift and six days a week so reports will initially be intermitten. i'm also finishing up the tail end of my Dark Angels army, so this may also cause delays.

some things that are in planning:

*banshees will be orange/red with grey manes.

*fire dragons will be a very dark color, most likely black.

*the dreadnought will look more like a titan. i wanted to put him on the war walker legs, but unfortunately i can't get the sprues, and i'm not going to pay thirty dollars for half a war walker.

*dark reapers, should i decide to invest, will be white.

*i want the wave serpent mk 2. more of a statement of intent and patience as i don't know whe such a beast will be released, but i know it's in the works.

pics of the work area and of the near finished dreadnought will be forthcoming, possibly this evening.

pictures as promised. pleas forgive the poor quality of the phots, as the camera is brand new and i'm adjusting to its use.

the wraithlord is magnetized, as are all the war walker bitz, allowing me freedom in choosing my arament for them. attached is the work area, which still has some of the Dark Angel stragglers.

Just great! Now get 'em dirty with primer
The revenant-like 'Lord looks like a good idea, but I think the pose is a bit too static... what about repositioning its legs a bit?

Re: Yme-Loc: the journey of self biased

i was going to use the reverse-joint legs from the war walkers to give it a bit of motion, but unless i can find someone to just mail me the legs, i can't get them from GW as a bitz order. the sprue simply isn't on the website. double that with the fact that i'm not 100% confident in my greenstuffing skills to merit any sort of wild repositioning.

with any luck i can get Jim and Bob started this evening when i wake up. i'm going to do a quick experiment with white and black basecoats for these guys.

Re: Yme-Loc: the journey of self biased

in the future, i think i'll be trusting the smart flash on my camera. it apparently knows what its doing better than i do.

    this is jim:

jim is sporting an armory white spray coat, and i'm a little worried because it appears to be on the rough side of things. if i decide to go with the white coat, i'll certainly have to be sure i'm spraying in a more or less dust free environment.

    this, is bob:

bob is looking sleek, and unfortunately indistinct in his Citadel black undercoat. hence my earlier statement about the auto flash. things look so washed out on the LCD of the camera, but i can only keep trying to adjust things to get the pictures acceptable.

i may start wednesday morning when i return home from work. i am then taking a week off, as i'll be headed to scotland for a much needed vacation.

Re: Yme-Loc: the journey of self biased

so jim and bob are finished, three weeks later. i had my honeymoon to contend with [march fifteenth to the twenty-seventh], and more importantly sort my sleep schedule back out as the third shift sucks.

    first, jim:

it's amazing what the camera picks up what i missed: under the left arm and that blotch of blue paint just below the gem in the last frame. the following things aren't done on either miniature: the arm bands and the grenades.

    and now bob

the black basecoat shows up a little on the back of the helmet, and the whole model looks a bit darker, which just might be my imagination.

as always, any comments, criticisim, movie reviews, or backbiting is welcom.

Re: Yme-Loc: the journey of self biased

    Congrats on the wedding mate.
I've been flicking back and forth between the two models but haven't been able to decide which looks the better out fo the two.
They're both excellent to be fair but you're right the second one does sort of look darker which may be down to the undercoat effect.
The first seems to appear seemless (that's not criticism btw ) where as there seems to be be more distinction between the armoured plates and the legs on the second model. Both styles really work though, that's why I can't decide which is better.

jim is a little messier, too. he's got basing material all up him. i hadn't noticed about the armor plates. it must be the camera, because i don't notice it with the actual models in front of me.

Agreed with Doghouse; I can;t see much of a difference either. The orange on both is really nice, although the Grey looks a little bit messy on Jim, although it's a lot better on Bob.

I look forward to seeing more.

Looks good so far. This is actually around the same colors of my army. Keep it up and thin the paints. Yes, it is hard to get back to paint after RL issues..well not issues. Congrads! You forgot to paint the ribbon on his arm. Left as is.

after critiques received from members of my gaming club, i'm going to go with with the white basecoat.

what a tumultuous year it's been. i've good news though; a fire burns within, and my bonesinger/farseer is finished. things ought to start picking up, and soon.
