Just a word of warning on Black Tree Designat the moment: I ordered some 6 weeks ago, the money was deducted the day after, and since then I heard nothing more of them. Two mails yet inquiring on the remnants of the order were ignored. I will have to call them, and probably take legal action if that does not meet with response.

EDIT: it took some time, but the stuff actually IS incoming now.

Relatively new company who produce decent metal miniatures available in 'warband deals' - 50 figures for £25!

    Re: Historical Figures

Just got some miniatures from Black Tree Design in the mail today, that I ordered eight weeks ago. The order I placed nine weeks ago, I am still waiting for.

The way I see it, you just order stuff from BTD if you can stand waiting a few months for it. With some miniatures, this is the case for me, since I have so many different projects going anyway. Their prices really are very low now, what with the sale and all, so it's still a good deal if I have to wait for the package. And when it does show up, it really feels like a pleasant surprise!

Just my two cents (which would probably get me another mini from BTD at their current sale prices)

Just started up this year..... www.wargamesfactory.com in the USA. Plastic 28mm Republican Rome and its enemies.

Latest is a box of Vikings. Hints about more Dark Ages releases for 2010. The company is getting it's act together.

All you over the pond people....a box of minies is $19.95(USD) and the dollar is down more.

Disclaimer from me......I get nothing for the heads up. I don't work there. I do buy there. GOOD minies for putting onto the wargaming table. GOOD prices leaves money in a wallet.

I'm not too keen on their Ancient Germans - they remind me of the first Virtua Fighter game for some reason... Anyway, everything else they has is a new breed of awesome.

    Re: Historical Figures

A fair number of us regulars on WF forums have discovered "swapping around" heads/helmets shields, weapons, arms. Wargames Factory's net store has individual frames/sprues of generic bodies (in tunics), weapons, shields. Goodies that allow (as a example) a gamer to field helmet and shield bearing light Romans. Then there's barbarian enemies of Rome who have looted the Roman dead.

Black Tree Design has arrived today - well, the majority of them, anyway. Seems that they got swamped by orders to their "Half-Price-Sale" and now have to cast whats ordered. Sending out stuff with the Royal Mail during strike probably did not help, too.

    Re: Historical Figures

Enjoy those newly arrived minies. I've got a fair number of BTD's minies. Believe it or not there are (plastic) 28mm minies that cost less then BTD's...Romans, Celts etc, etc. Since they are 28mm, they mix well in units.

    Re: Historical Figures

I have 600 incoming Romans (not only legionaries) from WF and some from WG. BTD offered to cover some gaps (eg. Velites) that were not handled by the plastic companies yet.

Can anyone recommend a good manufacturer of World War One 28mm hard plastics?

To my knowledge, there aren't any 28mm hard plastics. Closest you will get is 1/72 scale.

Plenty of metal figures out there. Renegade's regiment packs are dirt cheap, you get what you pay for though.

As killshot said, there are no 28mm plastics (yet), just 1/72.

If you're willing to do metal figures, I think the Renegade figures are good and they have some deals/sales that make them very affordable.

(Note, they've got their WWI figures broken down into early war & late war sections.)

Musketeer Miniatures - excellent service, excellent sculpts.

Empress Miniatures - Zulu Wars, Italo-Ethiopian War and Spanish Civil War. Excellent sculpts, excellent value, well worth a purchase.

    Re: Historical Figures

All my regular opponents are not in favor of refighting WWI in 28mm or a smaller scale either. They and I do get in games of WWII Senior moment....the smaller scale is gone from my mind. We are into Ancient and up to ECW. Just not WWI.

    Re: Historical Figures

If you want some flashback nostalgia if not necessarily brilliant figs I see that you can now get the old Airfix World War One French English and German plastic figs again. The british box in particular has some really bizarre models like two chaps holding a hoop - I think maybe its wire but could never quite work it out
What do you mean 'Flash Gordon approaching'?

Would all section 7 personnel report for decontamination in the decontamination unit in the decontamination block for immediate decontamination

with a few exceptions no one but Jellicoe has a clue

    Re: Historical Figures

It's two blokes holding a spool of wire. I love those sets - the British box in particular holds a great nostalgia draw for me; I may have to pick some up this year.

Together with the Emhar and Hat ranges it should be quite easy to do WWI in 20mm plastic, or indeed any of the conflicts in Europe until about 1935.

    Re: Historical Figures

www.albanminiatures.co.uk are great for proportionately sculpted 28mm napoleonics (95th rifles etc)

www.frontrank.com are great for HYW and WOR in 28mm (Although not proportionate)

Its got to be worth going through the wargamer magazine websites and pulling historical producers from this. Is there any way you could then get users to feedback on various aspects of the ranges for each producer so the guide clearly signposts potential buyers?
