Wargames Foundry should have some puffy sleeved minies that will work. Old Glory will have them by the bag full (25mm). Perhaps Renagade (spelling?) has some for the puffy period?

Just recently, Tabletop Gamming News posted that Knuckleduster will be releasing War of 1812 minis (Yay!). Now I can fight my American cousins!

Edit: they also make Old West figures as well.

Another period of interest to think about starting an army for. It IS very nice to have all these new choices in 28mm plastic being announced. I do plan to buy them, prep them and use them on my tabletop.

I have updated the list in the first post. If you have a suggestion to add to the list make sure that the manufacturer is not listed before posting and do include a link and an opinion.

Victrix don't seem to be listed, ok, so they are sold be other sites on the list, but there other resources on their site that might be useful (such as their "March of the Eagles" napoleonics game).

The majority of their products are Napoleonics, but they have a few ancients.

I've started collecting a french army and have to say that I do love these sculpts (though I have nothing to compare them to just yet).

Yes, pretty silly layout on thier website, click on online shop instead of product catalogue, although even that isn't the most picture-laden.

    The "releases" pages seem better.

    A couple of others:

    Conquest Games

Plastic norman knights are their only release so far but more Normans are on their way. Quite good for a first release.

    The Plastic Soldier Company

Mostly 20mm but they have recently started releasing 15 and 28mm WWII plastics. Not great quality although thier armour should be interesting.

I have just added Irregular Miniatures to the list. Does anyone have any experience with them? My initial impression is that the sculpting leaves something to be desired but the size and scope of the range is quite impressive.

From what I've heard in general, Irregular paint up better than they look.

    Re: Historical Figures

In that case they should hire somebody else to paint up their minis for their website as the current paint jobs are not very flattering.

They have some decent paintjobs, but you're right, you really have to look for them.

    Re: Historical Figures

I do agree, I do agree. The paints jobs on the examples were not really that good.

They DID remind me as to why I have never painted eyes on 25/28mm minies

As my memory serves me, enemy eyes did not appear to be well "bug eyed". But then, I am a lazy painter.

    Re: Historical Figures

I have just "discovered" Ceasar figures. They are 1/72 Ancients/biblical, fantasy, medieval and quite a bit of WW2, and- I have to say- the minis look quite good . I found them on their store page on the HobbyTerra website. The price is absolutely right: some of the box sets offer 40 figures for $9.00. Is anyone here familiar with them?

    Re: Historical Figures

IIRC soft bendy plastic. If you like that sort of thing, or don't mind the headaches with painting that type of figure, there's a lot out there. Personally I like Hat (http://www.hat.com/), which has a pretty extensive range of ancients (I have a full Spanish army, based using DBx 25mm basing), as well as a bunch of Repub Romans and Carthagos. The figures themselves are allright, and are made with a more solid plastic, but still suffers from paint flaking and difficulting in cleaning mold lines. http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Index.aspx is a great website to see what's out there, and to read reviews. Caveat: I don't have any caesar figures specifically, just what I've heard due to my interest in hat figures.
