    Re: tancrede's bretonnian log

    Wow Tancrede! You never stop to amaze me these Kislevites are so damn cool! I have seen them before but the sculpts have never looked this good, you truly are a magician with the brush

    The winged lancers looks very good as well, a very different scheme but it fits them as a glove.

    The damsel looks a bit overcrowded with detail (the scupls fault) some glazing to add more shadows on the cloak could help to tone it down a bit. I could not help but to notice that your tufts of grass could do with a bit of shading, I have used the technique of first adding water to the grass tuft and then add a bit of ink. This will focus the shadow to the part closest to the ground, and a light drybrush would bring out the depth in the grass as well. It might not be the thing one does for rank and file but for characters it might be worth it. However this is only nitpicking on great minis so don't pay to much attention to it

    My favorite mini is the hippogrif rider, damn that is one sweet paintjob mate

    Cheers and keep it up, can't wait to see more

    Re: tancrede's bretonnian log

    Thanks, man. Both for the comment and for the advice on the tufts. I'll try your method on my next showcase mini...

    And as a reward, here's a little update of today's work (thanks my son for the weak-up at 5h30)

    Allez, on continue dans les vieilleries !!

    - back to Albion, with the Oracle. I think he will serve well my Ostermark army as a jade sorcerer :

    And here is Sister Eloïse, assassin commissioned by the Pope, for the game Helldorado (just a commission work, and I really dislike the all-black scheme...) :

    Re: tancrede's bretonnian log

    No replies ? No problems, as I have other news for you :

    - mounted samouraï, based and painted for LotR skirmish game. He was lying on my desk for months, and was finally done today... :

    - for my bretonnian army, a new hero to lead my knights (must finish the wood of his weapon) :

    - for my Ostermark army, I just finish the old mini of Thyrus Gorman :

    - and to finish this week's work, here are 12 of the v6 spearmen, converted and reactualized with v8 parts (heads and shields) :

    As always, C&C welcome ! ^^

    great work. It's nice to see the older models updated. That's one of the things I really like about this blog, the way you seamlessly mix Citadel miniatures from different periods.

    Ooh, the black shields on the State Troops are a very smart idea. I was going to colour them the same as their heraldry, but I quite like this approach. Now only need to look for a good symbol to represent Marienburg and I am good to go.

    Re: tancrede's bretonnian log

    Thanks for comments, guys !

    @Animerik :
    Now I want more
    8 more spearmen on the way, man !
    Finally, I want to finish this unit before the release of the new empire minis, as I certainly have to paint some big minis ! ^^

    @The Lost Hobbit :
    That's one of the things I really like about this blog, the way you seamlessly mix Citadel miniatures from different periods.
    It's because I mainly paint minis I like, and minis that fits the vision of the armies I have.
    So for example, you will see no V8 state troops in my empire army, as for me, the empire state troops must have the landsknecht look they had when I started to play WHFB...

    @Urgat :
    I'll really have to figure how to transport my gobs to Bordeaux some day. I want to see those for real
    If you come to Bordeaux, I'll try to have some free time for a game : I'm always happy crushing gobbos with fire volleys ! ^^

    @was1974 :

    Just a little word upon my "freehand skills", or supposed to be...
    I'm really bad at painting freehands. The banners of my brets are a mix of plastic ones with repainted decals and repainted paper one, and the empire banners are mainly repainted paper ones (except the greatswords). The only advice I can give to you is to practice on impermeabilized paper before painting the mini.

    @Daniel36 :

    For the black shields, it was for me an evidence when I take a look at the minis. A purple/yellow scheme is simply not efficient, to close to the minis. So after a little hesitation with white shields, I decided to go for black ones, close to a Solland unit I saw years ago (yellow/white scheme and black shields with a golden sun upon them).

    And for your Marienburg army, just take a look at the FW site. The marienburger regiment "the blades of Manann" have some shields with them diplaying the Manann/Marienburg heraldry : tridents, sirens, tritons,...
    With the pics of the "blades" and the pics of the landship, I think you'll have some inspiration for your Marienburgers.

    Amazing work! Your attention to detail (on an army scale!) is absolutely phenomenal. The faces of the basic spearmen just ooze so much character and the yellow-purple uniform is extremely striking and well done. Truly, an inspiration!

    You're doing a commission for the pope? And he plays Hell Dorado? Wow.

    There (still) is no spork.

    It all looks great but

    The Spearmen look especially great ..... the head swaps have worked wonders.

    Love the winged lancers from the last page as well.

    Always a treat dropping by this plog.
