    Wargods of Aegyptus

I've been keeping a north eye on this game for a little while now, and I have to say, I really like the looks of the models, and the whole idea behind the game, but I have to be honest and say that the website isnt particularly newbie friendly.

I have a local stockist, but it's not that accessible for me (when we next go down to Aberdeen I'll pop in, but it's a bit of a drag for a one off trip), so anyone have any insight as to how the game plays.

What size of armies are used, points/model wise, costs involved etc.

Also, I see that there are different things being released - Aegypus, Hyperborea and Olympus etc - how do they link together, if at all. I'm thinkning if I collect and army from the Aegyptus, and the only other local player collects something form Olympus - are we still good to play each other?

Any tournaments organised for the games?

Anything really - I really like the look and feel and would love to start up, but...

    Thanks

Most players start with a KA 1 harbinger abd about a 1000 point warband, Which is about 1200 pts. All of the setting's olympus, aegyptus and hyperborea are compatable so you can play These warbands against one another. I was also told at Cold Wars that wargods of valhalla and atlantis are coming along. Tournaments are played including the current ongoing campaign with was played and Cold Wars , Gen Con etc. It is a very fun game and the guys at the Croc are doing a great job. I have a Heru warband that is made up of about 5 units and a few characters. the beauty of this game is that it's not a you go I go turn based game, which is very refreshing I hope this helps.

I was into it for a long while a couple years ago, but their absolute sluggish release rate killed it for me. In the 3 years since I've played it and the near 4 years since their second edition rules came out, they just now are starting to finally finish putting out all the initial armies they have in the rulebook.

I do love the sculpts and the rules are decent. They are a good alternative to WHFB, and was my alternative for quite a while.

And as far as I've heard all of the systems will be completely compatible with each other

Yes, a harbinger is your General and 1200 pts. gets you between 40 and 50 models depending on which children of the Gods you take. The points for each of the types is different. Both players paticpate fully in each turn. Each of your units is issued a command counter which says what the unit will do and then each player takes turns moving, shooting or melee with said unit. there is a lot more to it than that, but I perfer not to post lengthy replies. Your best bet is to just purchase the rulebook and have a look see for yourself. My only problem with the croc is they're slow releases.

There is a bit of Herohammer in wargods (there should be the fluff supports it), but Harbingers need to be higher level for it to be really bad (3+ is a good number when they can start taking on units by themselves)

Easiest way to start is to get a races starter as well as a second unit pack, that way you get 2 units and a bunch of heroes and your Harb

Gameplay is much like warhammer with d10s, but at the start of each turn you give each unit a command counter (move, shoot, cc, turn, etc) and then you roll for initiative using your harbs discipline stat, the winner gets to choose a unit to reveal their counter first (yours or an enemys) then the player who hasnt revealed a counter reavels one of his, and back and forth like that, its alternate activations with the command counter twist
    It works really well
the game Ive found to be pretty balanced overall, this is in part because most all AEgyptus races can appear in the same army
There is a large rpgish element to the game in the gaining of KA for your harbinger, I feel the game is best played as a campaign type instead of "one of" games
It is suprisingly cheap as far as ranked unit games go (1000 pointer will probably run about $125-200usd depending on the build)
