    desert tank weathering...

i'm having difficulty working out how to weather my desert guard tanks.
i was thinking of using acrylic resin, pigment and very fine sand, but would desert sand cake up around tracks and stuff like mud? probably not.
i want to go a bit further than just a drybrush, but any help is appreciaated.
    any thoughts guys?

In my time in the great sand box I noticed that the sand very rarely built up anywhere, but everything got a generous coating of dust. My current IG army is actually a desert based force so after the camo job, then the paint chipping, then the oil stains, I'm hitting the entire vehicle with a liberal dry-brushing of bleached bone.
More towards the bottom of the armor skirts and any flat areas. (Top of the hulls, turret top, etc)
I'd post pics if my camera hadn't decided to fry its frontal lobe recently, but I hope this helps.

the harsh desert conditions, sandstorms and the like
act as a sanblaster removing paint down to bare metal
on any sharp edges. also blasting away most rust.
a dry coat coat of silty sand and dust would be draped
    over most flat surfaces.

SC, I agree with strangeasangels, I'm a Gulf War vet as well for my sins!

Dust and being sandblasted were the two things that sprung to mind.

I'll have to dig out my photos and PM them to you.

I'd appreciate that too - i plan to do some desert IG at some stage.

Any pics of desert weathering on tanks would come in very handy.
