    Lizard Men or Orcs & Goblins?

    Hello all!
    Being a 40k Vet, my wife decided to get into the action of table top gaming. Not being into Sci Fi, she opted to play Fantasy. The Lizardmen caught her eyes and we bought the Rule book and Army book.

    My question is this: should we both play a Lizard man army or should I pick up the Orc army book for myself?

    I am just looking for another army that would make our gaming experiences fun, nothing super serious. I thought that if we both did Lizzies, we could talk more about tacitcs/units and such and also be able to split the models when we buy army boxes. On the other hand, after reading up in other threads about how fun the Orcs are, I am kind of leaning towards them........

    What to do.......

    It might be a good idea to choose different armies, not only does it allow you to play differently (therefore becoming more familiar with the rules) it also gives you experience. You can learn how to play with your army and with her army.

    I say go with the Orcs, they are an extremely fun army to play with units arguing, things breaking, no doubt honking noises are involved aswell and maybe even custard pies.

    Yeah I would go for Orcs they are a fun army to play(although sometimes frustrating) with and fun to play against aswell.

    agreed, go for orcs. only the strongest of minds would fail to become bored at lizardmen v lizarden. essentially you would probably end up with identical armies.

    Cool! I shall look into purchasing their army book this weekend. Off the top of anyone's head, what are the names of all the "funny/humorous" units out there for Orcs/Goblins?

    the pump wagon, fanatics, squigs, all warmachines, snotties, any orc or gobbo unit because of animosity, all night goblins, shamans...

    well... pretty much everything in the book...

    apart from trolls because they smell...

    Good to see you decided on Orcs. Not only are they great fun but then if you want to play lizardmen you can swap armies etc and you both won't get bored. Night goblins with fanatics are hilarious, Giants are great fun, trolls are pretty cool too. And the old Goblin launcher (it's names excaped me) these all make for a very amusing (and somewhat unpredictable) game.

    I'd take a chariot or 2 and some big Un's in the main army as these are both pretty hard hitting

    Night Goblins, Snotlings, Squigs, The Goblin Doom Diver, Giants, Trolls and the Snotling Pump Wagon are all pretty crazy and silly. If you take lots of these though don't expect to win many games.

    What the comical stuff used correctly is totally lethal, snotling pump wagons are 40 points unbreakable and do 2D6 str4 inpact hits. I'd have an army of them if I could.

    But I would start with the basic stuff for orcs like boys and goblins as a base for your army and then expand into the other stuff. If your new to fantasy then the lare number of special rules and compulsory moves might slow the game to the point of boring. But Orcs are a very good intro army as they have everything you need to learn about whilst being really kick **** and fun

    Also, whats the deal w/poor Saves in this game? Being "spoiled" in 40k, whats considered an average Armor Save? I look at all the units and see no need for a Save. I see them all as either Tyranids or Space Orks and don't think I really need armour..........

    I am sure more Q's will pop up after I get the army book. Are their any silly themed armies in the book that are fun to play?

    The average save is around 5+, some troops have a hand weapon and save which can give them +1 to their save in close combat. It seems like it's not alot, what with save modifiers aswell, but it does the job and you have to remember that WH doesn't have loads of attacks from basic soldiers either so it balances out quite nicely.

    The O&G book has a great list of appendix army lists in the back of the book, like the SNOTLING WARHORDE!
