Re: This week I have mostly been painting.....

    Meanwhile ....

Last week I have mostly been painting creatures ....

... and I have finally got around to putting some static grass on the bases of the first few.

A Lion. (Although now I see these pictures i can see I need to go tone down that last highlight. )

No it is 28 years old ... They are C22 creatures from citadel released June 1984 ... So are the dogs.

That lion's highlight is fine to me, but think he need a darker mane, either more brown or red/orange. Currently it looks like some curly blonde pretty boy

Sounds exactly like my kind of place. Thanks for the hint (and thanks to Karak Norn Clansman for the link). This is a migthy fine Zoat there. The thing I liked a lot about yours though was the colours. The green-fleshy combination looked very refreshing on a model that usually looks very earthy.

As for the Old West terrain:  I'm green with envy. I hardly manage to get half-decent GENERAL terrain done while you're doing all this amazing stuff for specific periods. Old West games really seem to work a whole lot better with some proper Old West town/farm scenery. Hope that you can finish these houses some day. Already they look really cool. One can not fathom the number of McDonald's restaurants you must have raided for wooden coffee stirrers.

Now for the new stuff: Love the skeletons, armoured orks look great, the ghost is amazing. Perfect "fear" marker. The chaos hounds are nice as well. I like the fact that through all their incarnations ithe same poses and designs kept on appearing on the chaos hounds up until the latest plastic ones. Lion looks nice as well. That's it for now I think. As always, impressive how much stuff you get done and I'm looking forward to seeing your contributions to the Tale of Historical Painters. (my own entries for this month are kind of vague at the moment. I hope to receive the rest of the minis in time so I can get at least something done and presentable at the end of July. )

Well try it out on some random painted surface first, coz not any pen will do. Of course it's got to be extra thin, but also, some will get all shiney on the paint, others will do the opposite, some will fade, etc. The hardest part about it is to find the right pen. And, yeah, at first, I thought that was cheating, and then I wondered why the heck that would be the case. Some people can't even draw checkers with a pen, and the only goal for me is for the stuff to look good I ain't gonna get any manlier because I painted checkers with a brush, right?

Believe it or not i DO have some Ninja pirates and this week I painted up a Ninja pirate just for you.
    Seriously?

Sure; the one I'm currently using probably isn't the best, but anyway: it's a "Faber-Castell PITT artist pen" (well that's what's written on it). It uses Indian Ink. It's alright (well look at my plog, if you see checkers, they've been done with it, so I let you judge. I also underline a lot of things with it, like eye edges, bolts, plates, belts and straps, fingernails etc), but I had to sharpen the tip with a modeling knife because even though it was the thinnest I could find, it was still not enough. It's running out of ink though, and I can't remember where I got that one :/

I like the animals, I do, I do. Gee, that lion could use a small "something" to get it through until it's next big meal. I KNOW a hobbit at the front end of it's base.

The first 100 or so pages are a bit pants but once folks start posting their stuff it becomes a great thread.

I think the 'real' scheme is green all over with a yellow belly but I like mine more.

I think you have to have some nice scenery for skirmish games. Everything is on a smaller scale .. the scenery has to be better. the the minis have to be painted well. But then the whole point of the small scale is that you can do things really well. I like skirmish level games.

The buildings are all Balsa...and wooden spills.

Thanks ... your kind comments on my painting are always greatly appreciated.
I am looking forward to getting stuck into the historical stuff. I know exactly what I am doing ... just need to get on with it.
really looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Me too. Call me a big Jessy but I will take every short cut I can find.

Yes seriously. My next pirate for the Tale of skirmish gamers is an oriental pirate. I shall name him after you.

Good tip. See what I did there. Joking aside ... Many thanks ... that is really helpful. I will give it a go.

So ... you like cats and dogs? .....
Well when I said this week I have mostly been painting creatures .... I was not joking.
I got all the bases finished on the stuff I had painted up.

    Here it is altogether:

These are the old Jes Godwin Elf beasts:

    I'll start with the Cats:

    A couple of close ups:

    A stripy one:

    and a plain one:

Here's the old Lion with some company:

    Here is my thinking ....
They fight with the Wood Elves.
The Wood Elves are at war.
My Wood Elves will be wearing warpaint.
They put warpaint on their animals .... just like Native american indians did on the ponies.
    (To add power and speed).

My, my, my......yum, yum. A pie would be a good idea, a Hobbit pie that is.

That parade of beasts should give opponents something to think about. Good details. Not the usual "parade of house pets".
