I too will post somethign (ir)relevant when i get home to find my shiny new WD on the doormat...
Here is the feedback from 308, for those of you that still want to see it.
It's quite a heavy LOTR issue. And the main change is that the LOTR section has moved foward in the magazine. Probably not a bad idea.

Can somebody list up the main articles featured?
Something good in the fantasy section?

Whichever system has the big release gets pushed to the front each month. SO when Wood Elves were released, WHFB was at the front, this month there's loads of LotR stuff being released, including the Mines of Moria, so LotR will move to take prime position. When Black Templars are released 40K will come first.
Aye that right I'm ment to get my copy today dan-nabit. I heard there some Black Templar stuff & there a Marine army in there (don't worry see it, my friend brought some WD back from the USA & has the Marine army in there).
Well if you're (like me) a 40K fan then its another very bad issue.
The first couple of pages show a few pics of the new assault termies and plastic scouts & wood elf minis
Then LOTR begins, new minis and gubbins, lots of pages (45 in total) of something or other ( I realy do not like this game).
WHFB - Why are these guys getting all the good articles??? Following the success of the zombie pirates we now have the Lichmaster Heinrich Kemmler, New (? - not a big WHFB player) lore of magic - shame they missed out the last paragraph of the last spell - it states "Characters who are part of a unit" - would love to know the remainder of this...
A couple of page article on painting WE, again not a bad article, although some of the pictures could have been clearer, particularly the images relating to the season of the elf costume (why do they insist on making the piccies so small - have they not heard that a picture is worth a hundred words?) and the vague arrows pointing to nothing in particular with a list of paints. Have to say I do like the layout of this...
An article on Norsemen in Lustria - haven't read this yet.
Rulz & background for Rhinox cavalry - guess this steps on FW's toes, but at least it makes their models tourny legal?
40K - A poor conversion on a vindicator in Dok Butcha
A guide to using scenary in 40K
How to kill tyranids
Howling griffons painted army
Tyranid Invasion - scenary piece and new scenario
*Yawn*
Usual bumf at the end of mag
All I can say is come on GW, get your act together for us 40K players. We have had nothing but SM and Tyranids forced down our throat since the beginning of this year (ok aprt from some zealots and IG/CSM:TS special chars) - why can we not have something else?? what has happened to all the other races?? If you want to carry on with SM, why not start producing trait lists for the more popular chapters. How about something new for DH or WH??.....
*sigh*
Mine didn't come... so Im hoping it comes today (saturday) or ill be angry and sad and cry alot..
Do the Rhinox cavalry rules match those on the ForgeWorld website?
Looks like maybe they've sold enough of them to make them official...
for 40K theres nothing great, except a rather nice SM force and an article that talks about terrain, oh and nids again
the terrain article however wasn't that interesting, and the nid article just basically agrees with what i thought, quite handy however
WHFB however it seemed good, a new set of heroes (ok not tournie legal) for chaos, a cheaper version of a chaos lord and the option for cold one mounts.
Ogre kingdoms i admit look really interesting with their new unit, i can't find "must be used with permsiion" so i'm guessing fully tournie legal, looks great.
LotR: the sole battle report of the issue is here, but tbh i only really look at the pics as the articles themselves don't interest me.
new scout models are also shown: look pretty good. The conversion this month is crap tbh, i didn't even notice the difference till i looked at it in detail.
so overall: 6/10: a really good issue for WHFB but for 40K a bit lacking (can't wait for templars as i'm getting bored of nids)
Well, if I have understood the news correctly, the SM force-feeding is going to continue with the Black Templars showing up.Originally Posted by Gethzerion

This is the problem with GWs strategy at the moment. When Tyranids were released I was really interested - some nice new models, improved set of rules, I was even thinking I might get myself some. But after months of non-stop Tyranid stuff I'm sick to the teeth of them. I really would like to see a return to the days when you got articles relating to several different armies in any given WD. As it is, you now just get (for 40K) whatever army is flavour of the month, plus space marines. And if space marines ARE flavour of the month, then that's all you get.
Just got my copy there. Like you lot I'm p*** off with it, for the past few months it been rubbish. Thought it was good that the brought in a army, the Space Marine one.
I don't know what you lot thing, but I'm going to send a e-mail asking if they can show more armies like they use to all converted & brillant painted as well as bring back the Grand Tournament report. For me GT help GW with rules & armies show where the fault in the rules lie. As for armies, I alway find it cool & insperison (spelling) seeing a very cool army, full of conversion. Fare due may not collect that army... but still could use those idear in the army that I am bulding.
There need to be more 40k stuff IMO, hopeful next month will be good as I look forward to the Black Templars perview.
I like the Zark the Damned reference on page 7 (Bryne's cows)
Best 40k animation evar! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5S...elated&search=
That's decided me on subscribing to the US WD. So much better and most of the articles this month are reprints. I want to see Golden Demon stuff and yet the UK continues to be sorely lacking in that sort of content.
Plus they don't waste ten pages on the shops list.
How easy is it to subscribe to the US edition from the UK? anyone done it?
It's easy enough for me as my Mother in Law is American. Not trying to get them to ship it direct. Probably too much for GW to cope with.
You know, for fun, I went and looked up the White Dwarf UK with the least 40k in and, out of the most recent ones, the worst one is the one where the Witch Hunters are released with an astonishing TWO 40k articles, only one good.
So there you go
I found this issue particulary dull, with little of interest.
I don't play LoTR so those 37 pages were wasted on me. I just skimmed through them.
The WHFB section was OK with some nice fluff on Heinrich Kemmler, but as special characters are opponents-permission only the rules are effectivly useless. I am heartily sick of Lustria after so many months of them blathering on about it - vikings in the jungle? Give me a break! And besides if GW is planning to make everything outside an army book unofficial then the norse list if pointless too. The obligatory "paint the army we just released" article was ok, Wood Elves in this case. The aritcles on cairn building and Rhinox cavalry were interesting though - the highlights of an otherwise dull WHFB section.
The 40k section was a bit better IMHO. There was an article on the use of scenery which had some good advice and ideas in it. I think that I am going to make that watchtowerI guess that lots of Marine players have been complaining that they can't beat the new Tyranids because we have an article on how Marines can win against Tyranids, seems a bit pathetic to me but whatever floats your boat. The digestion pool scenery did nothing for me. The Howling Griffons article was ok but seemed a bit long at 9 pages.
Overall 3/10 for this issue, no battle reports and very Marine-centric as has become the norm now. If I didn't have a two year subscription I would have stopped buying WD by now, I doubt that I will renew.
I liked this issue, it was fairly unremarkable, but it was all there (an excess of LoTR rings, but that's just my two cents).
Really this issue won't be one I looked back on, and even looking back to a year ago there were more memorable parts.
Best yet from non fatbloke, but only really equalling one of his slightly badish ones.
Good stuff on rhinoxen, should keep me entertained, the LoTRs stuff, well, whatever floats your boat, but really to me, they're just rehashing stuff that's already out, in no way WD's fault, just GW slipping again.
40k, ok I guess, could have certainly been better, but not without completely changing the articles, they just don't grasp me as much as they used to, but still an improvement on the last few months incarnations.
So to conclude, ok for new editor (whose name still eludes me), but slightly less memorable than a fatbloke issue ever was.
