    Cadian 8th Guardsmen

I'm currently painting an infantry platoon of 35 men to this standard (I'll add markings too), and eventually a complete 1500 all infantry cadian force. Takes a long time to paint, I'm even doing eyes (I hate me ), but even faced with the prospect of 100+ guardsmen I can't bring myself to do less than my best.

When I finish the platoon I'll post more pics.

Well done! The models look great, the highlighting works amazingly... and I love the skin-tone.

Be proud of these bad boys, I want to see more of these.

The shading on armour and faces is really very good, but the cloth isnt anything to write home about. Perhaps do a bit lining into some of the recesses to bring out more detail? The highlighting is ok, but not really the base colours

That's very good considering that you'll paint all your modells to that standard. Higher TT in my opinion. But it's far away from eavy metal standard.

Yes, calling them eavy' metal standard would be a bit strong.

These were my test models, I think I've improved the cloth shading a little on the rest of them. Tha main problem is the latest GW paints, their so runny its hard to drybrush with them. I intended to do scorched brown painted over with commando khaki and then highlighted with bleached bone, but my commando khaki pot has the consistency of water almost, so I just skipped straight to bleached bone.

Very cool, nice and clean, not quite 'Eavy metal standard, but very good none the less.

Excellent work, the armour highlights are quite good - you've given me thoughts on improving the highlights on my Guard now. The flesh is really nice too - I've been painting for 12 years and have thus far avoided painting "normal" human skin in any of my armies, now I'm doing Guard and I'm discovering that my flesh technique really sucks (I'm trying thick-ish tanned flesh drybrush, then dwarf flesh drybrush, then elf fesh highlight) - how did you do yours on the glorious Cadian 8th?

    Re: Cadian 8th Guardsmen

Cheers, heres the way I painted them:

For the flesh, I paint it bronzed flesh, then I wash over it with flesh wash. After that I drybrush bronzed flesh over it again, and then I highlight with elf flesh (slightly less than the bronzed flesh drybrush on the face, just the knuckles on the hands). Its very easy and effective I think, sounds like a lot to do but with only hands and face to paint you can get through lots quickly and loooking good.

Armour is simply two coats of catachan green and camo green highlight, and then a spray of matt varnish (purity seal). Before I varnished them the armour didn't turn out how I hoped, but the varnish seems to soften the highlight and make the catachan green deeper, I compared an un-varnished cadian with one that has been sprayed and the difference is noticeably better.

Ahh - okay. Thanks. I also tried doing what you did, but with dwarf flesh instead of bronzed - it came out crap, so I think I'll go get myself a pot of Bronzed flesh and try that instead. Good luck with the rest of Cadians - you'll learn to love painting the little buggers... after the first platoon or two
