Hey I love the verdigris on the barrell. Very authentic.

    Re: Toschenko's Random Painting Log

Thanks Luke. I'm quite pleased of the result, as this is my first attempt at doing verdigris

Ok, now it's time for some... WIPness! today I had very little time for painting, but I managed to get the cannon almost done:

EDIT: WIP pics removed, you can see the completd job just scrolling down

This is a bit over exposed, but at least it shows the red:

I have still to touch up some bugs, shadows, and generally give definition with a very selective torquoise wash. Oh, and I forgot to paint the hubs on wheels, they are not supposed to be black (I forget to paint something on almost every damn mini I do!).
You'll notice that some red parts look a bit grainy: this is due to drybrushing the metal, but with some strokes with a clean brush and some matt varnish it should go away

Sorry for all those WIP pics, I'll remove them once I finish the painting job...

    As ever, C&C is appreciated!

Very nice work. I love how the cannon looks like it actually is made of brass!

@Chaos_Minds: yep, a Khornate cannon, but without blood!

Here are some pics of the finished job: I'd like to know what do you think, and if you can spot something that can be improved (ok, something that desperately needs improvement... as I have sooo much minis to paint) please tell me. I'm quite pleased of how it looks now, it's clearly a game model, but at least is a good one!

Maybe I can go with this worn look not only with war machines, but even with dwarves: this technique is reasonably fast and gives good results.

A note on the base: I'm working to fix what Crube and Light of the Emperor pointed out, so the cannon will sit on his base when I'll finally post the group shot with all the crew

Here is a close detail of the handle: I'm pleased with the result, it seems to have stayed under water for ages

This is a close view of another detail, as you may notice I added vertical streaks to enhance the worn and aged look:

As always, I had problems with lights in taking photos. Maybe I should get a tripod, and go with slower exposure times to get a more natural look

    Feel free to comment!

    Re: Toschenko's Random Painting Log

Sorry, no updates on dwarves as this month I'm going to have two exams... but to keep you interested in my log I'm posting... my FoW americans! (well, the few models I've painted). These are my first attempt at doing 15mm minis... they're fun to paint, though!

    Here we go:

Two shermans, my all time favourite tank!

I played a bit with camera settings, so these photos should show more realistically the colours...

    C&C are welcome!

    Re: Toschenko's Random Painting Log

Thanks for the replies and for good comments!

These days I have to dedicate myself to other things (damn university), but I have a small bunch of painted miniatures awaiting on the shelf for some pics so, here they are!

These are my blood ravens: painted quite some time ago and mostly with a speedy drybrush, so please be polite!

    At first, scouts:

The flesh is a bit flat... but the sergeant has a nice beard effect. If you spot some metal flashing here and there the paint is not chipped, I gave them a worn look (mainly to cover defects)

    We continue with their battle-big-brothers:

The chapter badge is actually made of a dark angel decal, cut and painted over. Not so keen on this, but it's fast!

The weathering on the armour is very nicely done; subtle but effective
The faces on the scouts are also very well done.

    Good work

    Lovely stuff as ever...

one question, back to the cannon (sorry, but I've been away...) - You mention a selective Turquiose wash. Where, how, why, etc?

    Re: Toschenko's Random Painting Log

@Arhalien: thanks mate, but the faces look much better in the pics than in real life...

@Crube: the torquoise wash is a very diluted one (maybe it's more similar to a glaze), and was used to reinforce deeper shadows (around rivets, for example) after the second selective wash of green. A friend of mine gave me this tip, it works wonder. So, the bronze/brass is achieved in this way:

    1. brazen brass
    2. scaly green wash all over
    3. brazen brass drybrush
    4. scaly green wash, more selective, to restore and strenghten shadows
    5. hawk torquoise glaze, only in the very recesses

    Hope this helps

    @Hallowed_are_the_ori: thanks for your comment!

I did some work on the third crewman, here's a pic showing the progress:

I gave some more depth to skin (sadly I found difficulties in taking a pic which shows his face, but you can take his hands as a reference) and went for the weathered look on metallics, though it's all still WIP. I'll put a little more emphasis on the verdigris towards the end

Got comments? Thoughts? Criticism? Post 'em!

P.S.: oh, and as always I forgot to paint something... a cookie for the first who spots it

No, it was the small bronze disc on his left shoulder (I know, it was hard to see, you won half of a cookie for trying BTW )

    Here is the crewman finished:

The green stuff on the cannon base is setting, as soon as I can I'll post pics of the completed warmachine (finally!) and remove all WIP photos.

Let me know what do you think!

    Update time!

Here are the pics of the finished cannon:

The crew, in all its glory:

The cannon base now looks WAY better, thanks to Crube (and Light of the Emperor, of course).
