Ehm, I should think that maybe it's too late:

Still I'm liking it, though . Thought I'd throw in one more shot, a detail of the computer panel:

Next step will be the dusting via pigments, but I'd love to hear what do you think about it so far.

Great stuff! Very crisp work on the chips there. I think the pigments will really help, because it does still look a little flat and... perfect. Does that makes sense? I like it when old and used things look a little more... roughed up.
Am looking forward to seeing more progress!

Thanks guys - hope that you still like it after the second weathering step . Now the interior is missing just extreme highlights, before I move on to the outer part:

I'm not liking too much the ceiling weathering, it turned out to be too geometric . The rest is quite pleasing though, I think I'm getting the grip on those pigments.

I think you are definitely getting the hang of it. I think you're right about the ceiling though, it is a bit uniform. Kinda like... "a little bit of dirt in the corners and some around the handles and bam, done." You should think of the weathering on the ceiling in relation to how it would get worn down when the hatch is open. You kind of have that going on along the teeth of the opening with the scratches but it doesnt quite make sense where the weathering powder was applied.

I love the control area, those displays look amazing. The door to the cockpit, while maybe a little overdone, looks incredible none the less.

Cant wait to see the outside.

    Re: Toschenko's Random Painting Log

Thanks for commenting guys, I'm glad you like it so far. Rabid Monkey, you got exactly my impression on the hatch - but I don't have the will power to go back and change it, since the rhino interior (and in particular the top hatch) will be quite obscured and difficult to see with the vehicle all finished.

Ok, just to be silly I've added some more detailing, and I can call it finished now. Thanks to (or blame to ) Durham red at coolminiornot for the helmet idea, I liked it and had to copy his work (hope he will not mind):

Now, on with some brainstorming for the outside scheme: I fear that going for an all-yellow tank could be quite overwhelming, I thought of doing side doors and panel underneath the two front hatches in red, adding a black tactical arrow on the main top access door and some detail from the IG tank accessory sprue (thank God I have quite a bunch of those) - like the dozer blade. I LOVE dozer blades

    What do you think?

Yeah, I wouldn't change it either. It will be hard to see when the whole thing is finished. I just thought I'd add my $.02 to keep in mind for any future projects.

I like what Jarrett Lee has been doing with his imperial fist tanks lately. http://orangecoke.bravejournal.com/. I think a bit of back really helps break things up.

Love the interior. The only things I would look at changing perhaps (if it was to be on show) would be the hatch, and the instrument panel - it's a little too clean. A Few chips around the edge, or a broken / cracked screen would have set it off really well. As it is, it's great, more detail than you'll probably ever see

I'm not sure what to suggest about the exterior... not sure at all....

    Re: Toschenko's Random Painting Log

@Rabid Monkey: I saw tinctureadept's work and liked it very much, but he's doing the 5th company (his guys have black rims on shoulderpads) so he's fine with using black even on the vehicles... since i'm doing 3rd company instead I have to use red somewhere . I'm leaning more and more towards the first scheme I mentioned (red doors and front-up hatches), with an ammo crate and a fuel drum painted in the same green of the small box on the rear of the attack bike - I should then add a bit of variation in tones by an extensive use of pigments. Think it could work, but I'd like to hear your comments. Here's the mock-up f the assembled tank:

As you may see it's missing the storm bolter - it will be in the hands of the marine emerging from the hatch . Oh, of course the dozer blade will recieve the mandatory yellow-black stripes.

@Crube: thanks mate, I missed you here . I think that a broken screen would be an OTT weathering even for me - I tried to depict the interior as if they were heavily dusted and worn (hey, there's something like 5 tonnes of marines standing in full armour inside) but not abandoned or without ANY kind of manteinance. I've yet to decide if I will leave the upper part of the rhino detachable, but probably I'll go that way.

Aaah, I see. In that case I wouldn't go that route, too much red will have them looking like howling gryphons. Doors would probably look fine, the weathering will break up the yellow a bit so it doesn't look like a rolling lemon.

Good point. I think you got me convinced, I''ll go only with red doors. And if the rhino will not look cool in the end, you'll get the blame!

Thanks for pointing out the howling griffons resemblance, I didn't get it when I imagined the scheme in my head

Can't believe I've missed this thread. Fantastic work on the Rhino interior, and the use of weathering powders and washes on that marine works extremely well. /subscribes.
