Well I must say, your minis look great again, really nice stuff you got here.

Look their, a bird.
Firstly apologies for managing to over look your Fist's so far.
They are possibly the best Fist's I've seen, loving the battle damage - some how, while it is very heavy damage, it doesn't look over done as I often feel battle damaged marines do.
Awesome.
Hello!
I really like your Imperial Fists...The yellow looks very different to other 'recipes' I've seen - but looks excellent...I really like the use of red and the checks to break up the flat areas of yellow and although I really like the battle damage you have added - I think there might be too much of it as it starts to look cluttered? - Only other criticism I have is the red sand bases look a little 'flat' - maybe another lighter drybrush would help?
Overall though I love what you are doing - more please!
Jim

Latest scout is looking cool. I like the idea behind not much damage, but maybe a tad more mud wouldn't go astray? He is after all meant to be an infiltrator :P Still looks damn good, and the white and red checkers are a great idea.
Borsil & Novogord_Vivendi: thank you guys. The best Fists you've seen, eh? I guess you didn't see too much of them, then... thanks anyway though
Thanks Jim. I tried to give the scout a less damaged armor, and I'm quite pleased with the look - but I honestly like the other marines, too... still I don't know the way I'll be sticking to.
The base looks flat because it's never shown too well in the pics, in real life it has some strong shadows and generally is quite pleasant to the eyes....
D'oh! The day I decide to go with a less battleworn look for the armor you find that there's too few damage on the model? lol, I'm just joking mate.
In my eyes an infiltrator should be less in the heart of the action than a regular marine, since it's not too wrong to depict them with less damages - and I also needed to try a scheme without widespread scratches and holes (this time the scout's armor is scratched almost only on the edges, you can see this well in the rear shot). Thanks again for commenting, your support is precious to me, really.
Ok, so what's next? Obviously the last scout's fellows, already basecoated (well, at least two of them), should have an update in the next few days: but the big news is that yesterday I stepped to my LGS and found this awaiting me:
The plan would be to paint the content of the box in time for the coming out of the codex in october: I'm considering the idea of starting a new log in the Sci-Fi subforum. What do you think of it?

Haven't commented here in a while...my loss as I have missed some great stuff!
I really love the IF. You gave them a nice, almost mustard-y, yellow which fits really well. Red and white checkers are a good call which is something I never thought of. Maybe its just me, but they scream Lamenters chapter.
Keep it up!

Time for a random update!
I've been working on some fists lately...
Nothing reallly exciting, just a few AoBR models. Now I'm working on the sergeant and the dreadnought (both at 50% of completion)

Then we have something completely different, a Nurgle sorcerer:
This mini was somewhat experimental, I tried a new approach for:
- metals
- the cape, it's rendered almost only with the new washes
- rust
Tell me what do you think of the result (please)

Magnificent.
I stunning job on a beautiful old mini.
(I might have gone with some thinned 'washes' of paint on the cloak in addition to the washes to have made it a bit more 'solid'. It is just a bit etherial .... but then again that is not necesarily a bad thing on this particular mini).

Really lovely work on the nurgle sorcerer, could you let me know what washes you used on the cloak and how you did the sythe shaft, cheers
The sorcereor looks great. The scythe blade iss awsome, as is the metal armour. I'd say that your experiments were a geat success!

Cheers. The ethereal look wasn't intentional, but I liked it and left the cloak as it look now. As I stated in my previous post, it was a test on obtaining a pleasant muted transition using almost only washes... I went on until I came up with something satisfying.
The cloak had a base of rotting flesh (two or three coats to get an even base), then I applied a series of glazes using at first Gryphonne Sepia and then Devlan Mud, focusing more on the recesses as I went on with the glazes. Towards the end I highlighted with some rotting flesh the raised folds, then I re-glazed to get a unified look.
The scythe shaft is treated in a very similar way, starting from a bubonic brown base, then two glazes with a thraka green/devlan mud mix, then progressive glazes with devlan mud. I used a "large drybrush" brush to spread the wash towards the lower part of the shaft to get the faded look.
Hope this helps in some way.
Thanks mate
Speaking of painted models, I made some test for the OSL effect on the marine lenses, this is the best result I got:
I'm still not too convinced, do you have some hints ot tricks?

The finished stuff looks great.
The OSL looks like the light is bending the corners, and the edge around the eyes are too black, they should be green, more green than the yellow parts of the helmet is.
Maybe you could paint an almost white dot in the middle of the lenses to enhance the glowing effect a bit more? And I'm not sure about the green glow above the eyes - that part is facing upwards and backwards, sort of away from the lenses, and I'm not sure the light would reflect on those parts of the helmet.
The weathering and scratches are nice though![]()

An update with the veteran sarge of the tacticals... I put a little more effort in this mini, hope you like it ;p
Yes, the hair on the bolter has already been removed...
I have yet to put this side by side with the others, but I'm fearing that it will look a bit out of place (mainly because of the darker red)... hopefully later on I'll be abe to take a pic of the whole squad.
EDIT: I used a different approach with the damage too, focusing on the edges and raised parts of the armour which would wear more... tell me if you like it better now.
Thanks for the help guys. Yes, the first thing to fix is the part above the eye, the light wouldn't reach it as it's blocked by the shape of the helmet (damn physics!).
However, as you can see I tried a different, more "classical", approach for the eyes on this mini, and now I'm even more undecided than before, as I quite like how it turned out...

Wow, everything is completely amazing. I have yet to see anything to criticize! Nice work, keep it up. I just discovored this...man have I been missing out! Anyways, sorry for bringing this up so far after it was posted, but what did you use to paint the Vostroyans gold-ish armor? Whenever I try, mine allways turn out a nasty color... very nasty. And as for the SM, increadable, and this is truely a compliment, as I generally hate them. I love the glowing eyes, and the battle damage. Great stuff, keep it up!
That veteran sarge is breathtaking. You've always done great battle damage but you certainly raised the bar here. Maybe it's because it's consentrated more on edges, maybe you're doing something different, or both. Either way, it's excellent.
The main armor also seems to have darker shades and rougher dirt, yet retains the bright yellow of your army.
Since you mentioned the red, maybe it could benefit from a brighter highlight, both to bring it up to the rest of the army's red and maybe give it a little extra shine.
All the detail is great though!
