Looking really great, that base. I'm a cautious rodent so the idea of glowing runes made me run up a tree at first but experience tought me more than once that adding more stuff very seldomly really destroys nice paintjobs so I also suggest: Go for it!

It's sweet indeed but where are the updates!? What happened to the glowing runes and all that? We all should flog this undead horse of a thread until something happens again.

...How did I miss this painting log?
I'm looking forward to seeing more Dwarf miniatures. The skin on the ones you have already done are fantastic.

    Re: Toschenko's Random Painting Log

Well... by popular demand (thanks for the support guys, especially to you, Sigur... your skills would indeed please Nagash himself ) I guess it's time to take the brushes again... during last month (ehm, maybe I should say two months) I've been a lot less motivated than before, and since when I'm not motivated I have the tendency to not finish anything, this is the result:

You can spot the anvil base (still at the same point of a month ago ), some FoW troopers with only the flesh parts done, the anvil itself (at about 60% stage), the remaining two crewmen of the organ gun, the organ gun base (still only primed), ten thunderers from BfSP and an Oath Stone I was experimenting with (to get a good glowing rune effect).
Here's a closeup of the thunderers (metals done in the usual "corroded" feel and flesh missing highlights), sorry for the blurriness:

Thanks again to you all, I hope to post something finished soon (no, really)

Are you teasing me with the opportunity to start ANOTHER mini ? It would be interesting to see our interpreations of the same mini... you'll have to wait until I finish the organ gun crewmen, though (but they're next in the line, the anvil is on hold ATM)

Again, thanks for the support, guys.

Well, I had a little work done on the oath stone, painted to tie in with the anvil base (you should be able to see even the small cracks): tell me what you think:

The pics are a bit dark, but stronger light tends to wash away the "glowing" effect... and even in these pics it's worse than in reality... I'm quite pleased of the look (but you can always dismantle my beliefs!)

Mmm I'm a fan. If you paint the Anvil base in the same glowing manner then it will be a big hit imo for sure. It's a shame the stronger light washes away the glowing effect, but I can see that that would definitely happen due to the stone being so light. I still like the turquoise though(as I'm obsessed with the colour). Keep going mate, it's shaping up very nicely

Thanks guys. Crube, I didn't use any fancy or particular technique, the effect is achieved using multiple light layers of torquoise around the letters, which are first painted with torquoise and then higlighted on the edges using torquoise + white.
If you're interested, I've found this tutorial on coolminiornot for painting space marine glowing lenses:

    http://coolminiornot.com/article/aid/288

Sadly I searched for it AFTER the job on the base was done ... cyril's one is better, as you could see from the pics, but as I already said, I'm pleased enough of mine .

I've started again the work on the organ gun crew, as well as on the thane that will sit on the oath stone... I guess it will be a good test for my shiny new citadel washes set

ekxw, as soon as I'll have the organ gun finished we'll start the AoW slayer... prepare yourself (and the mini, of course )

    WIPpy:

I'll probably change or repaint the hammer handle.

EDIT: here's another pic, in which you can see the detailing work on the feet guards (don't know how to call those things...):

    Very cool,

May I ask how you did the green as it is the exact shade I want to use on some marines

Thanks. The green is painted this way:

    - Base with gretchin green

    - Washes: first pure thraka green, then 2 parts thraka/one part devlan mud, and finally a 50:50 mix thraka green/devlan mud. Keep washes thin and apply successive steps, you don't want to achieve the result with only one step (well, maybe you would look at something fast, if you have to paint an army... just experiment and find the compromise that fits better your needs)

    - Highlight: gretchin green + 2 rotting flesh

    - Successive washes with the 50:50 thrake/devlan mix to define better shadows/recesses

Believe me, it's faster than it seems
