How long does LotRs have? I heard GW was losing money over LotR and over here while it seems everyone including those 14 year old punk kids have 40k armies and some WHFB no one plays LotR
That said I am interested in starting it up and getting some of my friends interested but I don't want to get into a hobby that only has 3 years left in it since if GW doesn't renew the license they can't support it anymore. What are the chances of GW not renewing it and also when is the new LotR movie coming out? (The Hobbit) |

We had a "new LotR license" party a while ago (it was about 18-24 months ago) alot of people were going to wait until their stocks matured again, before cashing them in.
Concerning the money, it's because of the stock market. I don't know loads about it, but basically you're best off with a company that remains fairly static on the market. This stops people buying cheap and selling high. The lotr sold very very well, and caused the value of GW to increase too rapidly. It was a bit of inexperience with the stock market, that won't happen again. But they did buy alot of new gadgets for GW from it all. The new hobbit film starts filming in march 2010, can't remember when it's out, there's a link on here. But why would you want a game that keeps renewing? that's why fantasy and 40k are so messed up. All they need to do with WotR is a few lines of FAQ, and release a few more figures (they've already made quite a few of those gaps).....and that's it, game finished

Hey DorianGray, what is it with you and 14 year old punks? Why are you so derogatory to them?
Any ways, I herd LotR does make GW lots and lots of money. I think I even read it is more popular than Fantasy and only comes 2nd to SM. So go figure. I can't remember what thread I read it on. so take it Mc Donald french fries. There are so much salt on those

be interesting to see how LOTR/WOTR is more cash generating than WFB when all stores dont even come close to selling as much WOTR/LOTR as WFB.
Yes there was a resurgance when WOTR 1st came out, but I'd say sales for WOTR/LOTR dont come anywere near as close to WFB....yet! Shame as its a slick game and I'm really getting back into it

well i doupt they will not renew the licance but it may go to specialist game for a few years first before it phases out if at all. Both systems are really good tho WOTR needs some major FAQing and GW don't seem to care(Whats new there). I think there will a massive serge in players come mid next year as that when the Hobbit is coming out and i have been told my a friend who works for GW that they have got the licance so we are all passing aroung waiting for the Stone Giant to coem with the film.
I think now that LOTR is just viewed as a "Classic Film " and not a "New Film" anymore there is less intrest. Look at Space Hulk. Pleople where buying them left right and center but now noone every plays it and only occinaly do i see the modlas being used in a terminator army (Never seen them in a "Nid" army yet) |

LOTR was a key factor is increased and record sales they've invested a hell of a lot of time and money into it and is popular. Chances of them letting it slip by and not renewing it are slim to none.

![]() TBH, all we can do is wait and see, either they will renew or not, the game will become specialist or remain mainstream, only time will tell.

Well it seems the LotR as GW's third core game will go on strong until at least 2013.
Sounds good! However, it WILL eventually end because unlike WHFB and War40k GW does NOT own the intellectual property to continue the hobby ad infinitum. So while WHFB might still be around when we hit 50 LotR certainly will not be around. Indeed its been around since what 1988? (The year I was born) Thoughts? |

Warhammer Fantasy Battle first appeared back in 1983.
GW if it was going to allow it lapse would be at a loss as they are still heavily investing in it with new mini's and rules. |
