I've resently started a dwarf army, and now I have to find a proper background for Thane Trekkh Ravenheart and his Hold (from somwhere near Karak Hirn...).
Now I looking for a proper name to the hold, something connected to "Raven" and "Shieldwall". Anyone who've got suggestions?? Thane Trekkh Ravenheart once dwelled in Karak Eight Peaks under the rule of king Lunn, but left the hold to seek his luck in the West, among the dwarfs of Karak Hirn. Trekkh's clan (the Odrikssons) arrived at Karak Hirn and got king Alrik's permission to found a new hold. They placed it in Twinmoore valley, near a rich Gromril ore and next to Twinmoore River. Just months after the hold stood ready, a massive horde of greenskins allied with skavens attacked. The defenders stood stout and brave, fought the attackers with axe, hammer and handgun. Their enemies blows scattered against the fine-crafted Dwarven armour, and the hold endured. Ever since, the hold is always under the threat of attack, both from the greenskins and their "fellow" ratmens. Never, the ......... Hold in Twinmoore Valley will fall against the endless numbers of their enemies.

Not even the long list of Khazalid in grudgelore has names for raven or shieldwall.
Azulaz-Und (the metal outpost, the outpost of metal, an outpost for metal, the outpost of the art of working with metal, the outpost of sturdy dwarfs) might work with the fluff or even Gromrilaz-Und (the gromril outpost, the outpost of gromril, an outpost for gromril, the outpost of the art of working with gromril) as gromril veins are extremely rare.

Are there a lexicon with words from Khazalid somewhere, that possible have a name for "Raven" or "Shieldwall"??
Is there words for "Shield" and "Wall" so I can put the words together?? And the Shieldwall is my favourite tactic, so I wanted it in the hold, like a synonyme...

You can always cheat. Pick a Germanic or Scandinavian language and look up the words you want there, manipulate the result to sound more Dwarvish.

I come from Sweden, so it would just sound wrong to 'cheat'.
Besides, 'Raven' = 'Korp', and 'Shieldwall' = 'Sköldvägg', and I don't know how to make THAT sound dwarfish...

Hmmm...
I could suggest German 'Rabe' and 'Schildwall', but I doubt THIS would get the job done.

Heres a Name you could use Bar-a-Angaz kind of transilates to Fortified Door of Ironwork or you could just say it means Door of Iron.
I know for my Dwarf hold wich pretty mutch does the same thing as yours it defends a pass to Karak-Norn so I called the pass itself Az Karden or War axe Pass in the Human language and the Fortress is called Kazad-a-Az Fortress of the Axe.

Baraz = A specific fortified gateway or door (this is probobly the one you should use). Barak = Means that it is an abstract concept in this case it is quite hard to figure out what that representation is but the sentence it is with could explain that. Barar = Ever ongoing fortification (as in people that never cease to fortify an object, in this case would mean that the dwarfs always improves and repair the holds fortifications and espesially the gate) Bari = The aforementioned rootword used about a person or used as a name. Baral = The word used about a group of living creatrures (would not normally be used as this but a clan could be named in such a way) Bargit or Barit = A trivial or unimportant fortified gateway or door. Barul or Barkul = Master of fortifications of doors. Barha = A fortified gateway! or A fortified door! (I know some of these makes little sense in the naming of the hold but it is also a good lesson in Khazalid) Bar can also mean "but bear in mind but an ending defines it as being the meaning for fortified gateway or door. PS I found shield it is Karin so Kazadkarinaz (litterally shield fortress) could do to represent shieldwall. (with kazadkarin as a rootword) Karaz means mountain but it's hard to rework it to mean peak. Remember however that just takeing a dwarf word and put it togheter with another one and call it a day is akin to "en huset yxa istället för yx huset" (just used that cause I know you are from sweden and couldn't think of a good english example at the time)

Barha Grund!
A new Hold is named!:P I know that the dwarfs have the M3 handicap, so I was wondering: If I in some way managed to make a dwarf warrior mounted on the Grudge Pony from the bfspbox, could I use it in my games as a M6 ponyranger??:P

I have a question:
Is there anyone except me that uses a DoW-unit as rare unit, coz' I feel kind of ashamed that I don't trust the dwarfs that they will do good aggressive responds on the battlefield, so I hired some DoW instead. Is there anyone else how do the same thing??

![]() Anyway, I'm a bit late into this thread as you have already named your hold now, but there's a Norse Dwarf hold called Ravnsvake or somesuch. It means Raven Hold but the language of the Norse Dwarfs is a bit different than standard Khazalid. Also, this might be of interest to you.

I have no problems re-naming it if a better name turns up

I looked in Dwarfs: Stone and Steel, the Dwarf sourcebook for Warhmmer Fantasy Roleplay first edition.
The Norse Dwarf word for Raven is Ravn, but like I said they use a different form of Khazalid (eg Karak becomes Kraka). The Khazalid word for shieldwall is Thrung.

Now,(After reading an interesting thread at the Background Forum) I have decided to start making 'special characteristics' for my lords, heros and champions.
My Thane, for example, will be an arrogant and experienced soldier, that never will refuse a challenge. etc.etc The most common troop will be warriors (What a surprise!). All of them will carry Kazad Karin's (Changed the name:P) deep green colours with individual shield colours. I will have moore handgunners than crossbowmen(like handguns , reminds me of the dwarfs technical skills)The thane will carry the hammer Vengeance and his companion will be the Dragonslayer Undin. Do the dwarfs name their units, like orcs or men? I've heard "Ursha's Ladz" and "Von Eichler's Handgunners", but never heard "Odrik's Hammerers" or something like that...
