IG Preatorians 2nd Ed. Battle Force - Keep or Sell?

Greetings hallowed Warseers

I am a veteran 40k player, now 12+ years in the hobby. Back in the day when I started out, I picked up the Preatorian Battle-Force, at that time just released.

It consists of 2 infantry squads with AC, HB, GL and a flamer, and a platoon command with Lt., Standard-bearer(original paper banner of the 25th) and Horn-blower(No pun intented) + 2 guardsmen. There is also a heavy weapons team, with a mortar and 2 LC's,

I painted them up, played alot with them, but as my other IG force (metal Cadians) grew in size, they were slowly phased out.
I dug them out a couple of months ago and was struck with a dilemma which I hope you warseers could help me with...

Option A: Keep'em.
I've written up some fluff some time ago, naming them The Ariussian Royal Guard, a frontier colony planet PDF which were fighting with and supplying native troops (Tallarns, got apx 15 of those too), against Feral Orks. Not very original, I know, but I liked it.
I could expand on this idea, maybe including some of the nice Victorian army models from Wargames Factory(how do these scale up against GW minis?), maybe including FW tallarns...

Option B: Sell'em.
Although I think it could be and nice army, I've already lots of other projects and so precious little time.
My Cadian army have just reached 7000 points, with apx 2000 pt still needing painting, my BA could soon re-emerge from storage if the codex rumours hold true, I'm fiddling with a Catachan-based Traitor Guard and my love-child, a 2000 point SoB army sits half-painted on the shelf.

Also, as cool as the Preatorian Project looks in my mind, I feel the Preatorians are forcing my hand, they are nice rare models and need special attention to do these classic models justice.

There is also the purely financial side of things. I'm and a apprentice black-smith and just bought a house with my loving girl-friend, so cash is, at best, slim... I don't have the means to finance my new Traitor guard project, so simply selling the ol' chaps could buy me a new army.

If you like, I could snap some pics of the models so you people could help me aproximate their value. They are, as said, painted but scratched from gaming and storage, but nothing is broken or missing.

So....... what do you guys think?

Since they're paint job is not presentation quality any longer, they strike me as being similar value to unpainted figures (or even a bit less since the buyer would need to clean them). That said a buddy of mine just payed US$275 for the following unpainted Praetorians: 5 squads (@9 gunners, 1 sarge), 2 power weapon sarges, 3 bugglers and 10 casualties.

So definitely some value there.

Ok i can see you getting lots of pm's sent your way as Preatorians are quite sort after as a range. On ebay they can get some crazy prices for them even if the condition isn't so great.

Hmm... sell them i would say, seem to me that you have already decided upon selling them.
My guess its the sentimental value that is holding you off...
You should`t feel guilty about it, you dont have enough models to make an army, and they are quite expensive to buy.
You will make another veteran very happy i would guess...
We all have projects that never will be finished

Given your context, I'd say sell them.

You clearly know what you're talking about with them. List them up properly, and set a good minimum price for them- Ebay should give you a good guide for what you can expect.

They are both rare and in demand from Guard players.

SELL! Looking back and saying I should have sold when they could have commanded a price is worse than saying I should not have sold when the price was so low. If you keep them they'll just gather dust.

I am busy clearing the decks to help fund my Golgothan XIIIth regiment... It is a real release to sell some plastic that I am finally man enough to admit that I will never paint...

I would try to keep them. I know that it's hard for you (I just bought also an apartment the the expenses are going to rise), but if you'll want after a period to start this kind of force again it will be almost impossible (those models have a high price on ebay usually).
Just be sure what you want(in order to avoid regrets

).

Seriously though, don't sell them - you'll only regret it later and spend 4 times that trying to get them back. The amount of money i've spent on getting things i wanted, and should have got at the time and didn't, and are now OOP is depressing.

Keep 'em - in a few years you'll have time to do them justice and at the very least you're saving money by not buying another army

I sold three squads of Mordians a few years back and got a fair price. The next year I wanted to buy more got an amazing deal on 6 squads of them. I did not regret my initial sale.

Especially with harder to get models, I'm on the *keep them* side.

Although if your new vocation will have you so swimming in cash that you can afford to suffer the potential costs of replacing them later, then the concerns are less so...

If you do decide to sell, put some time into the paint and you'll get a better return...

Strip them, buy new bases and sell them. As they are metal you should be able to strip them to near new condition, giving you a much better price.

Wow, quite alot of response, thanks guys.
I'm leaning to selling them after reading through the replies here, and if so, selling them on E-bay after stripping them from paint.
I think I'll keep the three wounded preatorians, they'd look great as an objective marker of generic Guard officer. Do you think that will reduce the value?

Ah, but it is so hard... such good arguments for both options.
