No, immobilized vehicles may not turn. The particle whip however may be fired from any of the weapon mounts on the corners so no need to turn it

Not sure exactly what you mean by turn its particle whip, if you mean in the sense of a turret so that it can fire backwards, i believe that the monolith can fire in any direction all of the time, as it doesn't really have a 'barrel', its power comes from the crystal on top, which would be capable of projecting its energy in any direction, but I could be wrong.
Nobody has ever contested the monoliths ability to shoot in any direction before. |

The Cron FAQ has the Particle Whip fired from the 4 corner turrets, NOT the Crystal on top of the monolith

Stupid Question, but the 4 gun on the corners of the monolith do they move all the way left and right. as some could say there is a blind spot in the middle of the side of the monolith.
think where the portal is.

I just checked the monolith model. The gun mounts move enough (plus the 45 degree angle for hull mounted weapons) to cover the entire area around the monolith.
Makes it even scarier! A S9 pie plate with a 360 degree field of fire and a 24" range! Look out!

They aren't turrets are they? Could one make the arguement that they are hull mounted and 45+45+45+45 is 180, not 360. There are 4 of them afterall. They would each need a 90 degree field to cover the 360, but that would still leave a blind spot in the middle of each cannon, so they would really need more of a 120degree arch of fire.
I believe the corners are in fact turrets, and have a 180 degree arch of fire. Giving the monlith 360degrees like it's supposed to. |

Yep, that works too.

They have the arc of fire that the weapon mounts allow them to have.
This is generally adequate for the task. Don't forget, RAW, Monoliths flux arc GAINs one shot per weapon destroyed result (because GW can not only not rite ingeesh proppa, they can't do basic arithmetic, either. subtract -1 and all that.)

They are all mounted in ball turrets, moving left/right & up/down giving the mono quite a good fire arc. One on the better turret designs IMHO

Just a small question (this has caused a couple of rageing arguments with one of my regular opponents), Its D6 hits per unit in range right? My friend keeps argueing that it gets to shoot 4 times no matter what as there are 4 physical turrets on his lith!
Seems so obviousley wrong so me I cant hardly bring myself to argue, if nothing else the codex refers to flux arc projectors in the bloody plural, nevermind it specifically stateing per unit in range etc. Did I miss something? He keeps useing the old "the guy in the shop says so" addage, which carries no weight with me at the best of times, blue shirts are just ppl like the rest of us! |

He's mad - it clearly states in the codex its a single weapon which fires D6 shots at every elegible target in range. It can trace LOS from any turret. the multiple turrets are REPRESENTED in the rules by the "D6 shots at every unit" rule, as the turrets are independently blasting all about them and melting off peoples faces left right and centre.
