Default Sabbat Worlds Crusade?

Does anyone know in the current W40K timeline, have the Sabbat World crusades actually ended and if so what was the outcome? I have just got my copy of Blood Pact in the post and am about to start reading it. I usually really enjoy the Ghosts novels, but wondered how long they can go on and if they will ever reach an end.

So, if the crusade has ended then who won?

Did the Ghosts ever get the world they were promised?

Is Gaunt still alive at the end or like so many other of the main characters does he ever get killed?

Or is it still just an ongoing ar that no one knows he result of yet?

Ongoing, I believe. The beginning of the Crusade is noted on the timeline in the new Guard codex, with no end date. The entry for Gaunt's Ghosts is phrased in the present tense. I'm guessing Abnett doesn't want to give away the game just yet.

Correct, Abnett set the campaign in his own little part of the universe, so he has the freedom to do what he wants without paying (much) attention or having too much effect on the rest of the 40K universe.

The Sabbat worlds crusade will go on until Abnett writes the last Gaunt´s Ghosts novel.

all points above correct. however worth remembering Sabbat Crusade started in M41700 something, so whilst a very small number of the Gaunts Ghosts cast might still be alive by present date 40k it is likely inly to be individuals such as Gaunt or Hark that could afford the rejuve treatments and such. however the warp can mess with things so this is all suspect as to whether they would still be alive.

Blood Pact is meant to be the first of a new story arc called 'The Victory', I believe, so it may not go on for too much longer.

The Sabbat Worlds Crusade background book covers the first 20 years of the campaign from 755-775,M41 and goes up to the formation of the Sons of Sek (around the time of Traitor General) so I don't think the crusade is still ongoing in 999,M41.

Yes, that is wht I thought. Gaunt others would have to be over 300 years old by now. Not that it would be impossible given Jueve treatments etc, but still getting on abit when you consider they have had a hard life as well.

Still it will be interesting to find out what happens. I wonder if there will be any more appearances from people like Milo (The one who played theflute or whatever it was.) as I understand it he is not yet dead, just off with that saint woman he picked up with.

I presumed it was a past event because all the novels (I think all of them) started off with a little blurb in past tense (from A History of the Later Imperial Crusades).

I just picked up Sabbat Matyr from my bookshelf and the blurb states that the following action was set around 773.M41. So that is... year... 40,773.
According to Lexicanum, the 13th Black Crusade happened in 999.M41 (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/13th_Black_Crusade).

In fact, here's the link on Sabbat Worlds Crusade at Lexicanum...
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Sabbat_Worlds_Crusade

They based it on the Sabbat Worlds Crusade background book, published by Black Library. It's there... on my shelf... I'm just too lazy to grab it.

It would be brilliant if Chaos won the conflict, what a slap in the face for the imperial fan boys.

So far there has been no material printed about the end of the conflict, as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, the fate of the crusade rests with Abnett.

As opposed to the IA books, where the best the Imperium can manage by way of victory is a Pyrric one?

whilst i see your point a victory is still a victory. and from the case of the Imperium the only truly Pyrrhic victory they've ever had was the HH, as ever since then they've stayed the same. King Pyrrhus of Epuirs's victory in fact cost him his war as whilst victorious his opponents were not really effected and his force and kingdom was drained dry.

as for the Sabbat crusade we know its over from the blurbs at the start of each book. however the victory is an ambiguous title, not really stating who the victor is and even whether it refers to the entire crusade or maybe a just a personal one for the ghosts, or maybe Gaunt? there is an obvious answer there, but then Abnett has surprised us all before, think we all remember being more than bit shocked when Try again left?

also I'm hoping that this isn't the last series of GG books, though i expect it will be.

I picked that up for a £1 during the BL sale, never really had a good look at it before, but this thread has encouraged me now

If the Sabbat Worlds Crusade was a failure, they would not be writing history books about it. The knowledge would be oppressed, and people actively publishing accounts of the loss would likely be hunted down and executed.

This is the Imperium we're talking about, here.

The Imperium could be telling lies.

Writing history accounts about victorys in sectors halfway across the galexy from the battlesites, afterall who would actualy be able to travel all the way back to Sabbat worlds to find the truth?

"The Imperium could be telling lies." Emphasis added on Killgore's comment.

The Imperium is a crazy place, but only to the masses. The canonical works from the Inquisitor rulebook does imply that elites know about the history of failures the Imperium has caused/survived through.

The novels also indicate that the elites like the Inquisition (answerable only to the Emperor himself) keep frank information ... most strongly shown in the Cain series with the lady-inquisitor's own commentaries.

Regardless, I see A History of the Later Imperial Crusades as a military aid/supplement. In those cases, you should know about failures.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade Book that the Crusade lasted forty years... I could be wrong and it might not have any "end date" reference, but I'm sure forty years was mentioned somewhere in there.

I'm sure it's about 40 years as well.
