Because Games Workshop has proved unwilling and/or unable to provide gamers with the product support we deserve, a few brave users here on Warseer (and some of our offline gaming pals) have dedicated our lives (well, not our entire lives of course
) to creating a set of comprehensive, consistent rulings and errata for the 4th edition of Warhammer 40.000.Of course we have no way of enforcing our rulings on anyone, and we wouldn't want to. These FAQs are unofficial, and everyone must decide for themselves whether to adhere to them or not. Just bear in mind that we have gone to a lot of trouble to compile as many official and semi-official answers as possible from GW's old FAQs and from forum posts made by the Games Developers thamselves. Where these sources were insufficient, we looked for (or started) a discussion of the issue here on Warseer's 40k Rules forum. The final answers in our FAQs have mostly been agreed upon by many knowledgeable posters. We hope that our work will allow gamers everywhere to enjoy their games with as few rules arguments as possible. The FAQs: Main Rulebook (BGB) FAQ v 1.31 (updated 13th Feb 2008) Codex: Eldar FAQ v 1.03 (new 11th Feb 2008) (new 11 Feb 2008) Codex: Orks FAQ v1.0 (new 19th April 2008) If you can't get to the files, my webspace provider is acting up again. I can't do anything about it, so please try again in a day or two ![]() More coming soon! If you disagree with our interpretation of a rule, please do a Search first to see if the subject has already been discussed (it most likely has) before you voice a complaint. Sensible arguments will be listened to, wishful thinking will not. Last edited by Brimstone; 14-07-2008 at 07:01. Reason: Removed links to non faqs |

Excellent compilation of FAQ stuff. My only contention is under the Chaos 'FAQ' where the Land Raider, taken as a transport option for Chosen, still counts as a scoring unit.
It is, still, a dedicated transport that does not occupy a Force Organization spot, and therefore, shouldn't be scoring. That is why you take the LR as a Heavy choice, is to have a 250 pt vehicle count as scoring, and it can ferry around any unit it wants to. Otherwise, i think it an excellent tool, and believe it well done. |

Well, there you go. Reading the codex to the rescue
![]() I think it is similar to the problem with SM and Demonhunter codex. Some people feel that because they are independant books, that the wargear or weapons in SM doesn't apply to DH...mostly the Assault Cannon. |

I agree that it would make sense, but that is the easy solution...
People in our own gaming group are split on whether the Grey Knight dread can use the Assault Cannon with rending...they keep saying the codex entry does not show Heavy 4 rending...and IIRC, the codex doesn't actually say it is based on Codex SM. I think that is where the problem is. |

If the name is the same, then it uses the new rules. That's the general ruling.
I don't have a GK codex at hand, so I dunno if there's an Ass-cannon in there, but if it is, it uses the new rules. A psycannon is a totally different thing though, and doesn't use the new rules, despite what some people may claim. |

Thinking about it, this could easily get out of hand quickly. Perhaps you should do one or two books at a time to make it more manageable (so you are not flooded with q and a's. Once each FAQ is in a state of readiness I think it would be a great idea to make each the official Warseer FAQ for <insert book name here>. Maybe the admins can give their thoughts on that... people can then view the FAQ and then post in the rules forum if they cannot find an answer.
It might be worth nominating a team of people to gather together the questions from the rules forum as it stands and also assign an owner to each FAQ rather than have the responsibility all yourself (unless you want to!).

I'd love to spread the work around, but such a project has been tried every couple of months on Portent and always died within a week. I guess 40k players just don't have the required dedication and attention span. It makes us look really bad compared to Fantasy players, who have a forum dedicated to producing high-quality FAQs.

Then allow my group and I to take on the Main Rule book FAQ. Anyone reading this who wants to PM me a Q+A they think should be in it let me know. We'll put a draft together and then see what you think.
lord_blackfang... does this sound OK?

What about making this thread a sticky, or a sticky 'Project : FAQ' thread or similar, so contacting the different teams, and reaching the FAQs is easy?

I might be available to do something (dunno what) but I'm just volunteering my spare time (what little of it I have)

The ones already done are SM and CSM, and I'm working on Nids now. Matt is working on the BGB. Everything else is up for grabs ATM.

Now the detail it may not stay stuck, that all depends on you guys, I expect it to be a constructive thread and not spam. If you do get spam on the thread it should be reported so the mods can take care of it, if the thread goes off the rails and cannot be saved then it will be unsticked/closed depending on the situation. The opportunity is yours, make good use of it.

Right. I've had a stab at a first draft for the BGB FAQ. Compiled from the rules forum here (trawled through the whole lot!) and the GW forums FAQ pages. It's gone to the guys at my club for their comments. I suggest after that it goes to a wider but select Warseer audience before publication. I could suggest some people here I think would be good contributors/ proof readers but they should really volunteer themselves rather than list them out...

Cool, this is working out better than I expected.
I'll be gone for a few days and won't have computer access, but I'll get C:Nids done early next week. I'll be glad to include any Q&As that appear in my PM Inbox in the meantime, or on vanedolenc@yahoo.com |
