Well first of all Gav is a member of Warseer and we WILL take action against those breaching forum rules by making personal attacks.

People do move on, no matter how much GW or members of this forum would like them to stay.

Second yes Gav is leaving GW, he's put in a hell of a contribution both to Games Workshop and Warseer and I'm going to miss him.

I'm pretty sure Alessio is not leaving however.

He is? Damn. I hope he can give us some light on the situation, as to why.

Thought it was just time to go somewhere else? New job opportunity? Sacked? Fought off evil alien warlords and was rewarded with the Congressional Medal of Honour and a house of gold? Something like that?

It's unlikely that Brimstone will tell us why Gavin Thorpe has left/is leaving Games Workshop. You'll need Thorpe himself to tell us which is unlikely considering it is a personal matter.

Quite correct if Gav wants to talk about he will, I'm not going to speak on his behalf.

Right cause its easier for 100K people to change games than 2 to change jobs.

This is shocking news, and if possible I would like to know the reasoning behind this decision.

This is rather sad, but not unprecedented. Does no-one remember the profound contributions to GW games and imagery made by Tuomas Pirinen...?

Whatever the reasons for Thorpe's departure I hope it's entirely amicable and that he'll be even happier wherever he ends up. Maybe he's got a world cruise lined up followed by a major or minor change of career. I mean he's been with GW for a very long time now, perhaps he just wants a change of scene...

Anyway, our loss. Best of luck to him.

Wow. This is kinda weird now, isn't it? Sure, Tuomas Pirinen did a lot, especially for WHFB, but Gav Thorpe is another calibre (at least in my very subjective perception). Of course this isn't something that will change GW's ways very much (we'll be able to evaluate this in about a year at the earliest) but it's something that, on a superficial and emotional level indeed means something to many of us. As Brimstone confirmed it, I think we can take it for granted. At the very least, this will have an impact on how we will consider every one of GW's future steps. Of course we all would like to know about the background of this descision but I guess we never will.

Anyway, best of luck to Gav and let's see if we hear of him again in the future.

Now I don't post here often, as my post count rightly tells you.

However I would just like to say I am sorry to see Gav move on to pastures new.

Another link with the gamers broken.

Agree or disagree with his writing he did play the games. He did have passion.

Soon we may have people writing the rules who have never played a wargame.

Good luck Mr Thorpe and thanks for the all the gaming memories! Even if you dislike some of the rules he has written he has had a major contribution to the GW pantheon of games.

Ouch.

Ouch ouch ouch.

Depending on the reasons this might spell my departure from GW as a gaming company, and I have been supporting them with plenty of my money since the late eighties.

I hope its because Gav has a better job offer. Anyway, even then there are some people you should strife to hold. While some dislike him, he is (or was) part of the backbone that was behind the universe of 40k and WFB. A force that shaped the virtual reality. GW is certainly loosing a part of its soul with him.

I would like to hear more about the story of his departure. If GW starts to part from his like the company is doomed beyond redemption and will go the way of the Dodo.. err - Hasbro. I REALLY hope that this is not the reason, but in the light of other decisions I fear for the worst.

I don't have anything against Alessio, but if they kicked Gav, I'll be a happy man! The only things that I liked in Gav was Codex:SoB (2nd Edition) and Gorkamorka. And I'm not talking about the last mess (CSM). So, good riddance

I don't think any of us have the right to speculate, agree or disagree, or contemplate the reasons why he may he left, or been forced to leave. He's done alot for GW over the years, and I wasn't around for this apparant '2nd Edition Era' but what I do know, he's done a terrific job with the Vampires, and I really hope Alessio hasn't left (shoot my own argument in the foot) not at least until he's given an all seeing eye to the Skaven 7th Edition release

Shame either way, good luck!
