Default The Watchman Tournament 2008

THE WATCHMAN TOURNAMENT 2008 REPORT

INTRODUCTION
The Watchman Tournament 2008 was a highly enjoyable and sporting event, made only possible by the attitude of those who attended. Awarding four very deserving entrants for their individual efforts was a fitting conclusion to an enjoyable day of wargaming. Hopefully, the recipients of these awards will proudly display their trophies and certificates and return to defend their achievements in further The Watchman Tournaments.

AWARDS CEREMONY
During The Watchman Tournament 2008, awards for Overall Champion, Best Army, Best Sportsman and the Metal Hammer were awarded to four deserving individuals. The recipients of the Best Sportsman and the Best Army awards were determined by a vote by the entrants themselves, whilst the entrant who finished last received the Metal Hammer award.

RESULTS
Before you read The Watchman Tournament 2008 Results, please bear in mind that the published results are final and no discussion will be entered into.

The Watchman Tournament 2008 Results are attached below.

FINAL WORDS
When Lee Pratt first asked me if I would like to help organise a tournament for The Watchman magazine, I immediately agreed. It was only after accepting that I realised that I had not played Warhammer Fantasy since at least the first few months of 5th Edition, way back when the Lizardmen and the Bretonnians were first released. As it was, I found myself frantically learning the 7th Edition rules in preparation whilst bravely developing a series of new stipulations and missions that I hoped would set The Watchman Tournament 2008 from my previous event, Carnage Nottingham 2008.

Having now run The Watchman Tournament 2008 and heard several entrant’s feedback, I am happy that I accepted Lee’s offer as the attitude of the entrants was incredible. I would like to once again extend my gratitude to each and every entrant and contributor to The Watchman Tournament 2008. In particular, special thanks must go to Lee Pratt for not only acting as a Judge, but also devising the idea in the first place. Further thanks must of course go to the nameless gentlemen who was quite literally press ganged into using Lee’s Hordes of Chaos army to face the entrants who received a Bie Victory.

Looking to the future, there will be further The Watchman Tournaments held annually at Warhammer World, but at the moment, we have not yet confirmed the dates for next year’s event. Hopefully, we will see many of this year’s entrants return next year.

Once again, thank you,

Simon Tull,
Carnage Events Organiser.

I would have thought you'd jump at the chance to see me bringing some Fantasy models to Warhammer World.

Sounds good. Is there anywhere I can post rules queries with regards to current rules ambiguities (pending an offcial FAQ) as far as the tourney is concerned?

Is a 40mm base with a red gauntlet and Imperial Aquilla on it "Thematically Suited" to a Lizardmen army, d'ya think?

Registering provisional interest in this; pending time and money commitments...

Ah who am I kidding, I'll be there with the stunties and their alcoholic objective marker.

I don't think putting your pint in the middle of the table counts as an objective counter.

Not to mention the hassle of having to measure the right place to put it back every time you have a sup...

Yeah! Fuel the fires of speculation and say it's an artefact of the Old Ones!

I see limits have been placed on hero, special and rare choices...

Dwarfs have the perfect objective marker - the barrels of Bugmans XXXXXX from the Josef Bugman model ... Apart from that, a pint would work and be suitable, unless is pansy chrysanthemum water lager.

Oh and for the record I originally meant using a stack of ale barrels, but now you come to mention it I really like the idea of using a pint as an objective marker; just got to build a suitably stone looking beer mat

Aye, there's plenty of time to assemble that Godforsaken Corpse Cart of yours.

Yes, the new scenarios are one way in which I hope to stimulate more varied armies and styles of gameplay at the Carnage Tournaments and any associated events I organise for other groups, such as The Watchman. To the best of my knowledge, the last time I used different scenarios for Warhammer Fantasy was the first Carnage Tournament back in 2005. As its now been a few years, the return of Warhammer Fantasy scenarios is long overdue, especially as I have been using five different missions for Warhammer 40,000 since the first Carnage Tournament.

Not particularly...

Yep, again, this is another measure that's been taken to stimulate more varied armies.
