Default Imperial Guard Rumours

Take this with the usual dose of salt guys, but someone I trust told me that the new guard codex may have the following things in it.

Army wide special rule: I think it’s called Platoon Drill or something like that. Basically, units from the same platoon may ignore intervening squads when shooting. So enemy units targeted in this way do not receive the 4+ save. Apparently this only works if the Platoon command squad is alive and within 12” of the rest of the platoon. I’ve been told that this is just one of the abilities guard Platoons may get, but only as long as the chain of command is intact (whatever that means). So loosing your HQ Command Squad may be a really bad thing.

Doctrines are for sure gone (I think we all knew this), but have been replaced by more mutable platoons. Instead of Armoured fist squads you can buy Chimeras for a whole platoon. Or buy the whole platoon grav-chutes to give them deep strike, or drop the heavy weapons from squads and give the platoon Scout. Veteran squads become upgrades to platoons (i.e. they are not elites anymore).

Apparently infantry platoons let you attach certain types of support vehicles to them(kinda like back in second edition). Things like sentinels, hellhounds and demolishers can be attached to platoons. They still take up a FOC spot, but become part of the platoon and so will benefit from the Platoon Drill rule.

The Leman Russ can be bought as a squadron so you can get 3 for a single FOC. They can not be attached to platoons however.

Sniper Squads can now infiltrate, get stealth, range finders and all models in the squad have sniper rifles (and BS 4!).

Like the Land Raider, a new plastic sprue for the Leman Russ has been made that will allow plastic demolishers and a 3rd variant (my money is on the Exterminator).

The Baneblade in NOT in the new codex. It just doesn’t work (i.e. overpowered)in games that are not Apocalypse in size.

However Stormtrooper squads can now take Valkyries as transports. Both will be getting a plastic kit. Valkyries follow the rules for skimmers I’ve been told. Again, they want to keep flyers and super heavies out of “normal games” but give people the ability to use them with all the special rules in Apocalypse and Planet-strike (if the ever get around to that.)

This last one makes me wonder what’s they are doing, but apparently there is a new HQ in the book; Inquisitor and Retinue much like the elites from the current Daemon Hunters/Witch Hunters books.

More info if I get it.

Inquisitors built into the guard dex does make sense, though what would that mean for the inquisitorial forces?

I know to take this with the usual dose of salt, but I'm still hoping that the new IG codex gets all of this!

What use is a new rule without some exceptions to go with it?

Thanks for the info - I certainly hope the plastic Valkyrie bit is true.

I actually have no problems with anything in that post. Would be nice to get a platoon upgrade into grenadiers, but maybe there is!

Certainly taking some salt with this one, but overall I hope this turns out to be true. Replacing the Doctrines with equipment options seems like on okay idea, shame they feel the need to get rid of them in the first place but oh well. The Russ squadron idea definitely looks fun, wonder if you can mix up variants in each squad?

I hope that extends to the variants . If that comes into fruition, people will hate the Guard *g*.
Platoon drill sounds nice, as does all the rest. I hope you are right, Dosadi.

If this is a limit one option, then it makes great sence. I can see Guard fielding three russes and two other heavy options. But 9 russes is a bit much.

Granted, with defensive weapons dropping to S4 and template weapons always scattering, maybe this isn't as unbalanced as it seems...

Nope, 9 russes would be insane!

9 Russes would also be about 1500 points alone, so that is something you just would not encounter in a normal game. Still, as a one off-option that would suffice. 3 Russes and two Basilisks still put out a lot of hurt.
I wonder if we get the Griffon back as attached vehicle.

Nice, nice, I like more of a reliance on Platoon and command structure.

They have been reading my Imperial Guard rewrite! Damn them! (actually WOOHOO! GO THEM!)

YES!! YES!! YES!! They MUST have been reading my rewrite! :P but i only allowed Fire support, mortar and Sniper squads!

Quote The Leman Russ can be bought as a squadron so you can get 3 for a single FOC. They can not be attached to platoons however.
This one confuses me, since does this mean they are an actual Vehicle Squadron?
I would make the rules that they are a vehicle squadron (4" Coherency) but they are able to shoot independantly.

Also, does this mean a 9 Leman Russ army is possible?

Quote Sniper Squads can now infiltrate, get stealth, range finders and all models in the squad have sniper rifles (and BS 4!).
*grumbles about stolen ideas* . I like the sound of them, but i hope they add my marksman rule! (Able to allocate one Sniper hit on any enemy model)

Quote Like the Land Raider, a new plastic sprue for the Leman Russ has been made that will allow plastic demolishers and a 3rd variant (my money is on the Exterminator).
Only 3? Personally i would think a Vanquisher. But an Exterminator would be cool

Although its a nice idea, is this really necessary? They can already use the rules from Imperial Armour: Apocalypse

Quote This last one makes me wonder what’s they are doing, but apparently there is a new HQ in the book; Inquisitor and Retinue much like the elites from the current Daemon Hunters/Witch Hunters books.
Hmmm...Odd, but oh well. I got no problem with it

THANKS DOSADI!

I love the sound of these rumours!

I think everything is going to be ok

Trust me, having 3 russes as a single slot is so good that you will not complain that it is a squadron and has to follow the squadron rules (including only being able to shoot at one unit).

But the 5th edition rumor that immobilized vehicles in a squadron are automatically abandoned and removed from the board does sound harsh....

But the reason i have my pair of Russes is so they can engage seperate targets.

Veterans as an attachment to the platoon, does this mean that we can take one veteran squad per platoon and still have three elite slots left for Stormtroopers?
Add in some sniper squads in the platoons and you suddenly have a lot of BS4 going around, nice!

A lot of this sounds sensible. 4 of the mentioned things were at least partially in my re-write. A lage part of bothering was to see if I could guess what GW would come up with. I'm looking forward to this, though I think the basic guardsman needs a little more than just being able to shoot past other members of his platoon.

So far, so good. Any hints on new plastic Imperial Guardsmen?

I want something that's on Krieg scale, yet resembling the long coat from the 2nd edition codex imperialis.

Please?

Any mention of carapace as a squad upgrade Dosadi? (if not then it's easy enough to house rule)

Otherwise, this all sounds promising and interesting, but given how early this is i fear a small mountain of salt may be needed

Thanks Dosadi!

Any ideas on when it will be released? I am looking forward to it regardless of what is going to be into it just so I will know what to save up for and what conversions I should be/not be making.
