40K Seminar

Tim Deakin (?) design studio head honcho MC'd with Rick Priestley, Alessio and Andy H.

Primary run through the rule book , basic changes etc...

Q&A - No Combat Patrol or Kill Team rules in the rulebook. CoD and APOC are fully 5th ed compliant (surprise!) However it was mentioned smaller sized game rules will appear in one of a number of 40K expansions being worked on.

40K "Mighty Empires" confirmed by RickP for '09 he has the resin casts of the 40K tiles. Defence lines, spaceports, bunkers and a multipart hive city were mentioned.

Confirmation of a policy change, instead of armies being done all in one lump with the codex, additional releases for armies will be coming out over a period of time - as we're seeing with Ork and there is a plan to expand Plaguebearwers and Horrors into plastic "at some stage".


WD - All WD'sc are now centrally controlled from Lenton to prevent as Rick put it 'anarchy!' They are quite aay of the lack of hobby content in the mag and are looking to remedy this.

5th ed rulebook on display. Noticed it has army lists in the back

SM one includes Apothecary as a separate choice (again) interestingly Scouts WS/BS stats stay as they are.

Space wolf list still includes the Exterminator and all the other usual Wolfies.

APOC:Reloaded. looks good. As mentioned datafaxes for All Scout force, all Deathwing. Looks a good book actually.

SM stuff - Bits form the new codex on show. SM Vets get 'Vengeance' rounds shorter range AP3 rounds specifically for taking out power armour.

Legion of the Damned are also in the codex.

I imagine they get something like a single page, as they did in the old Codex: Ultramarines.

The idea was the LotD acted like a special squad for Codex Space Marine forces. Nice to see that return rather than whole armies of the LotD.

I'm just uploading photos of the pages with the LOTD on them now!

Rick mentioned that there are several supplements being worked on that will cover Kill Team etc... by Jervis and his team that would be released in the future. Rick's opinion was that as the rules are written now, it's easier to take 40 down to 500pts with the rules as they stand, unlike WFB. No details were forthcoming about Planetstrike or any other named supplement....

Interesting thing was how vocal Rick P. was re; GW / WD policy - he seemed very hacked off at the direction WD had / is taking, and that now the design studio had more control over Wd, he'd like to see more rules based stuff in there... - in fact, there was projec the nearly mentioned, but stopped short after a glare from Tim....

Rick also mentioned Dark Eldar - he's got the mini's and the codex - I'm not sure (philbrad may be able to correct me) but I oculd have sworn I heard him say he'd sent it back as it was '*****'..!

As Philbrad said, he was effusive about the ME 40k - it won't be seen until next year, but will be fully compatible with WFB ME. In fact, it was another thing that Rick sent back to try again to the Dev Team.

There will be no new races for the forseeable future (so no change on the party line from last year), as to support the races they already do is hard enough. Though Rick did mention Squats more than once - but in the context of tongue in cheek 'after too many cappucino's' was the phrase...

Apocalypse Reload - DOES have the website Datafaxes in there - but the pictures for the likes of the Khorne Tower of Skulls, Plaguetwoer etc.. are new conversions. The book is nicely presented, softback.

This won't be released due to casting issues with the base - they did say that they were looking to make the base different to allow for casting...

I keep remembering more -

Inquisition - no decision has been made on the direction the new IQ book(s) will take - they're too far down the pipeline to even talk about, but Andy has several Witchhunter Datasheets that he needs to finish to get out there...! The main thing to take from this was that there has been no final decsion on whether to stick with separate Ordo books, or go for one combined volume.

Other timelines - as of now, there are no plans to bring out supplements for HH, Age of Apostasy etc... but 'If Jervis finds himself at a loose end, or he looks like he's being idle we'll get him on it' was the line from Rick!

Too bad the vets aren't plastic. Any news of DE, Phil? And would the tiles from Space Empires be the same size as the Fantasy ones? They're obviously going in for a lot of detail, like the Hive-City...

Sort of. It has loads of statline summaries, but not actual army lists.

There does seem to be a disconnect between the emphasis of the more recent books and WD - Apoc and the new rulebook make quite a big thing about playing for fun and making up your own scenarios.

All in all, very good news indeed!

DE are well into development, like I said - Rick P was quite keen to point out that they would be seeing 'some love' soon.

the ME 40k tileset will have a space port, hive city (that can be built up to quite a large size), fortresses, a 'maginot line' style wall set to name a few! The tiles will be the same size as the WFB ones - this was one Rick P's wishlist from the get go - he sent it back to the Dev team as it wasn't! He's on his third set apparently....

Pity they don't cast the 3ups directly, could make a decent small squiggoth with that cold one... Yeah, I'd imagine the orc is Azhag, matches the O&G art fairly well. Nice finds!

did anyone ask if the DA book was indeed 5th edition or if it was a prototype stop gap and will be updated, along with the new SM toys?

And I have to ask...any other SW news? Especially regarding what models/ranges are being updated?

I got a sneak peek at the Space marine codex, and they have a good 8 pages of fluff detailing the battles fought by the Ultramarines.

Because two out of the six Ultramarine special characters are not HQ you could have four of them in an army, imbuing abilities on the army (Sicarius allows one tactical squad to be fearless, and he doesn't have to accompany them either!).

The sternguard jumppack marines will have four types of ammunition, poison, long range, double fire, and armour piercing.

The apocalypse reloaded in my opinion is about 2/3rds datasheets from the website, and 1/3rd new stuff. There is one for a stormhammer baneblade, with a twin linked vulcan cannon and heavy bolter side sponsons at the front end of the tank, and heavy stubbers, and troop carrying capability (although there is no model picture just 2d artwork).

There is a Tau stealth datasheet with lots of stealth battle suits.
The 'Tyranid Behemoth Crusher Brood' that you can advance order is actually Three Carnifexes and two Hyrodules.

The later 1/3rd of the reloaded rulebook are rules further expanding the apocalypse rules etc...

Apparently the 40k army release will go Space marines....Imperial Guard (Chrimbo)....Space wolves (early 2009).

The big boxset of 40k vs Orks will be out in Three Months time. So we have July WD:40k 5th edition rulebook........August WD: Darkelves with a Dark Elf vs High Elf battle report....... September WD: free terminator and ork model and details on the boxset.

I will add to this as I remember stuff.

The DA/BA codices were built with 5th in mind - they're standalone from the new Marine Codex.

Not much about the SW from me I'm afraid - they did say that they were well on their way, but nothing else.
