Default UKGD08 - 40K Seminar

Well nothing massively staggering here. But for the record here's my report. Other attendees feel free to chip in. GW put one on primarily for WD subscribers. The seminar was a joint 40K/FB event host by Jervis (40K) Andy H (FB)

Not much new from what I have read of the seminar at other event

40K concentrated entirely on Codex:SM for the presentation. Few little tidbits of interest, yes the LoTD are back and bringing new models with them (as can be seen from other threads) we've seen the rules for them already but the new models do look very nice Juan Diaz's heavy flamer is pretty cool (I'll be posting pics Monday)

Q&A - Nothing much SW are in the 'discussion' phase. DE are still on-going from what Jervis was saying it sounds liek the entire DE range is being done by Jes G (no bad thing) though still no firm date for release. Necron's are also at the 'discussion' phase of things. No news of what's after Codex SM *cough IG cough* and there will be more Apocalypse books and expansions. Codex DA/SW stand as is and don't take on elements of Codex:SM and the BA have just had a 5th ed revamp to their website based codex, which no one pointed out. GW will continue on its new policy of addtional mini releases after a codex is released. So if a codex has units in it with no mini they will eventually appear.

One question put forward by our own HULKSTER had my FULL attention. Will we see Traitor Legion armylists. Jervis' answer was "Yes we aim to do a standalone codex for each Legion" no timescale on this at all (surprise) but if there is a genuine commitment to do this this is the best news of the entire UKGD for me. Whether these will be full 120-140 page books, please, please, please or potentially a BA style White Dwarf 'dex we don't know. To be honest I personally think the Triator Legions would be most likely to be covered in this format - its least hassle for GW and I reckon there simply isn't enough money in standalone Legion codices to warrant the print and mini costs.

I can only assume this is a typo and you mean "codex DA/BT stand as is . . ."

Because SW CAN'T stand as is and not take elements from Codex:SM . . .

So please clarify if possible. Thanks!

A Legion codex for each god? That would make my Tzeentch playing friend really happy.

@synapse:
New Tau stuff? Any chance that you have a link?

best regards

What tau?... Only thing I've seen is the tau collector range model and those doesn't necessarily get rules.

I think he just meant that beyond where Codex SW refers to Codex SM the codex is as it is. By that they mean you don't get any of the new stuff, the units in the the SW and DA codices are as they are, and that rules beyond things referencing the Codex SM are not amended.

Always good to here DE are being worked on. I'm really looking forward to the Legion codices too.

EDIT: I think on the TAU he means this:
http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162642
Probably just a random release, in the same vein as the second wave releases.

I've certainly never seen that battle suit before, and I too am surprised they didn't mention anything about them. Unless those turn out to be FW models...?

Those tau were in a cabinet in the area with all the GW releases, all the FW stuff was in a different hall entirely. I think they were in the same cabinet as the Land Speeder Storm and Marine Casualties.

Ahh...so the question is, metal Collectors Range or (much delayed) second wave Tau releases?

Anybody?

A codex for each Legion? That is just crazy. They need to compile and cut back on codexes, not do even more of them. At this rate, there will be near to 20 individual codexes, and when they only realease around 2 per year, that will be a codex update *every other game edition*. That of course is rather idiotic. Might as well just play Space Marines, as we can be assured that they will get a new codex every game edition. Unless of course we will now see 4 codexes released every year as a standard thing. I'll believe that when I see it happen more than once.

They better FAQ the hell out of SW's when the new SM dex is released.

Our current dex points to many wargear/vehicle items in the current SM dex.

I can understand this sentiment about needing less books. I've heard it said that they could release four codices inside one book (one book release), considering that many models are being released for CSM and Daemons books. It would unfortunately be a bit light on the fluff in this course of action but could appease some fans with the rules. And just to make sure you understand what I would propose: 4 seperate independent codices (though I suppose some entries would overlap, and there could be some reason to present the book that way) inside of one binding.

As others have said that battle suit looks like a plastic farsight, and the infantry look like plastic pathfinders.

WD dexes would be great for the legions give some meat back to WD and provide a vehicle for balance testing and as a marketing tool to gauge if demand is enough to warent full dexes and models.

It has LatD, Marines, and Daemons. They each have the ability to be played on their own, or you can combine them as you wish.

Please leave feedback.

They will not be doing a codex for EACH legion. (anymore than they will be doing one for EACH space marine chapter).
They will only be doing a small selection BUT they will get a full codex in the same way the Dark Angels did.
