Default Almindale's Absolutely Abhorent Modelling Shennanigans!

Well as the title suggests it's all about the various modeling things I do. Maybe it'll motivate me to actually complete things too!! To start off with I'll repost my Eldar Army to date so you can get an idea of where I'm going with my Warhammer 40k stuff, there will possibly be Fantasy figures later on but I like my eldar too much atm!

The army as a whole. I have many many more miniatures, these are just the painted models.

My favourite unit to date. I like how the orange turned out. Used the new foundations for the orange and then used lots of washes to shade it. After that I highlighted mixing some sunburst yellow in with the foundation orange. I used turquoise gems to try and tie the models in with the army more.

Just because he deserves to be shown a little larger than in the group shot!

As seen before, the work in progress Autarch. People are telling me I need to add some litlle freehand details, but I'm worried I'll muck up the model if I do. Any suggestions on what to add?

Anyway I'll try to post fairly regularly, but as some can attest from my tale of 40k painters and tale of fantasy painters efforts I'm less than committed on a regular basis. I'm also off to Japan for a month as of next week on Sunday so there'll be a gap in coverage there too, but I thought I'd better get this out and about now!!

Thanks very much ^_^
This is what I'm working on atm. Everyone remembers Eldar Exodite Dragon Riders right?

Very early on atm. I'm going to have to greenstuff a LOT of the cold ones and also the armour as there's a fair few gaps around. As you can see in the pic below the bases are in progress too. Should be fun ^_^

Hey Almindale,

I can't believe that I missed your log, you have some really good looking stuff in here. Loving the turquoise colour scheme on your Eldar and the bases of the Fire Dragons are excellent.

Nice idea with the Cold One riders, it is surprising how well the Eldar parts mix with the Dark Elf ones.

Do you play any Fantasy, are we going to see any of it in here?

Great stuff. I'd been planning an Exodite army since 2nd Ed and now I can check this log for ideas to steal.

Yes you will. I will eventually get back to the Wood Elves I was doing for TOFP and I've also got a 3500 pt Brettonian army to do as well. I'll take some photos of the mounted yeomen I converted from the normal peasants and the plastic pistoliers. I'll also take a photo of the bases I'm getting organised for the 2 units of 5 glade riders I've got going too.

Haha I'm sure I won't mind if you steal a couple here and there I'm mainly doing just the 5 exodite dragon riders as 5 shining spears, and then I'll be converting an avatar to make it look as if it's been fighting for a millennia! That's about as far as I'll be going with the Exodites, unless I get some more ideas down the track... Stegadon anyone?

Hey Almindale- nice log! Love the eldar- really good colours accross the army. I really like what you've done with the wraithlord[I was too chicken to convert mine!]- love the bone on the weapons and the hand motif is excellent. Great work on the exodites too- surprised how the dark elf and eldar kits combine so well. I've been thinking about getting back to my eldar- this has definitely given me an extra push!
[oh yeah- definitely do a stegadon!! Hmm what would it count as...]
Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff mate.

Great work man it's looking good, the dragon riders look like they will be sweet once they are complete. The cold one models have improved alot by the looks of things since i last played.

I'm thinking deck it out and make it something to do with heavy weapons (kind obvious I know). Seeing as there's a few options available it could be either a war walker or a really really slow falcon or something. I dunno yet. I'm sure I'll think of something eventually, but I'm leaning towards a war walker esk figure or artillery pieces on the back of it :P

Oh! There is all kinds of cool going on here.

great painting. The blending and the jewels on the guy with the wings is outstanding and I love the attention to the bases.

Those conversions are great. Can't wait to see what you do with them.

The boy from down under got some moves.

Ooh I like it. Love the bases on your Eldar, of which I like the colour a lot. I know how hard that colour is to use, so mad respect.

The blood spatters on the walker thing is gruesome!! Not too prevalent but showing enough to give the model a lot of movement and life. The Cold One riders are the bomb!

Keep up!

Had a thought re:stegadon - wraithlord? heavy weapon/s & shuriken cats/flamers could be crewed. Wraithblade could be a big slashy horn thing? Just an idea..

I really like the posing on the Wraithlord. I've not seen anything like that done with the kit before, and I think it gives it a very nice feminine air.

The Exodite CoK's are very cool too.

Impressive, man! Quality material!

I especially like your gems, they're really well done. I was actually going to do a very similar colour-scheme originally (turq. orange and black), then scrapped it for blue camo, black, and bronze (I also play eldar). Very nice!

(Also, love the power weapons!)

Clean, crisp work with an attention to detail; Eldar suit your painting style.

RIGHT! I'll have to apologise for not posting in a bloody long time! I haven't updated in I dunno, a massive while. Actually looking at it it's been 3 and a half months approximately. I've kind of been to Japan for a month back in Feb and since then just haven't been in a hobby mood, but things are settling down nicely, I've graduated from Uni and now I have a bit more time up my sleeve.

On to the models! I've only been working on the Exodites again, but I've been fiddling with bases, green-stuffing gaps, smoothing shoulders etc etc. I'm still thinking there can be more work done so any suggestions would be much appreciated. Things like ideas for bulking out the bases (I'm still thinking wraithbone thanks Peter), and also ideas for backpacks? Or possibly cloaks? I'm still not sure because they're already looking pretty cool in my books. The other major problem I've got is that I don't know if I want the bases to fit in with my current army, or if I want to make them really jungle like, as according to their fluff... So many choices!
