Default Forgeworld news from Games Day Baltimore

Alright guys, I'm fresh back from the convention where I talked to one of the guys at the Forgeworld both. He was very friendly and shared a few details that I'm sure you will enjoy. Firstly Fantasy is going to get a lot more face time with Forgeworld. They are planning on adding significantly to their fantasy range in the next couple of years.

I asked him if they were planning on releasing armies similar to the Krieg and Red Scorpian forgeworld only lines and he said that they were. I then told him that I was a long time Chaos Dwarf player and asked him specifically if Forgeworld had any plans to make a Chaos Dwarf army one of the fantasy armies to be released. He not only said that they had plans to do Chaos Dwarves, but said that they were on the top of the list to be done.

When I asked him about other armies (IE Cathay and the far east) or new races he said that there weren't considering any new races but I basically gathered that there were looking at expanding on other current ones.

In other news, the next Forgeworld book to be released after the final Siege of Vraks book is supposed to be Ellesians vs orks and will include an updated list for Ellesians and a new ork list that will include many of the new vehicles that we have already seen pictures of. There is also supposed to be a new ork tank of which I have not seen any pictures yet. He also told me that they had no plans on expanding the Krieg range of models anymore and that they were essentially done with the line.

He also confirmed that they were going to update the Death Korps and Renegade lists with free PDF files on their website, but didn't give a timeline on this.

I am not sure which made me giggle more the term "Movement tray only folks" of which I am one (mostly) or the turn of phrase "sheer Wallet rape".

But it is true that Forgeworld are set to do a lot more stuff for fantasy and not before time if you ask me.

I would like to see Forgeworld come out with more WFB stuff. If they make some Chaos Dwarf stuff, I will be very happy.

Rofl. This bit make me laugh however it is very true, look at Death Korps, £32per squad. will have to wait and see how much it is going to be first. i bet so expensive that we will hardly see the armies as noone will be able to afford it.

I just call it like I see it.

We invented the 'MTOF' term to cover that certain type of person who hates 40k but loves fantasy, it's a term of endearment really though.

I find this news very exciting, as I tend to lean towards being one of those "MTOFs." Perhaps the revival of steam tank variants to go with the new plastic kit?

I wouldn't say that for sure. It depends on exactly how far Forgeworld goes with it. The "BIG THING" is a GW project as a whole. If forgeworld was involved, and the big project was Chaos Dwarves, then forgeworld wouldn't be doing the whole army would they? Depending on how you interpret the info, this could actually rule Chaos Dwarves out as being the big thing.

the only problem i see with this is that if forgeworld to CD that means that GW probably wont do it, so that might be a double edged sword

Well, previously what GW have done is to see which Forge World items are good sellers and then make them in plastic. Take all the new tanks in the Imperial Guard codex, for example. So I would not worry about that. Quite the opposite.

Of course, if FW makes something in resin, I wouldn't expect to see GW make it in plastic very soon.

Interesting stuff here. Obviosuly it'll be quite an expensive army, though combining both the FW Chaos Dwarves and the GW Dwarfs, i think one can make a nice decent army.

If they're going to expand on the current stuff, i'm thinking of gryffons and possibly more dragons in resin. A nice idea might be Dogs of War, which would also allow us to combine empire, bretonina, etc stuff with the models they could possibly introduce.

Mmmmm .... lets think. IF GW were to do Chaos Dwarves what sort of things could Forgeworld possibly make in a great big lump of resin for an army needing big steam driven machines of doom????

Or something like these old Epic demon engines:

I'll be *VERY* excited to see Chaos Dwarf figures, as it will really vindicate my faith I've given to my beloved army. Plus I can then expand on my collection too.

I'll admit and say I'd probably buy some figures for what I already have converted too.

I just hope they have new official rules too.

I do get the impression that GW are reaching a crunch point with Chaos Dwarves. They're not like squats where they need a huge reimagining, they simply need an army list and some new releases (or even just rereleases, i daresay the fans will buy the old models if they were just made available again). Forgeworld may be the perfect testing ground for a sample Chaos Dwarf release, since they are not a horde army like the guard and so more people may be willing to commit to buying an entire army of them, particularly if the models live up to forgeworld's usual standard of quality.

I hope that GW are reaching such a conclusion themselves because though i have never had an army of the evil short-ones myself it is an army that i'd be willing to invest in, but not in the crapshoot of ebay (can you imagine trying to start a force at ebay prices?) for ancient models.

Good news that Forge World will do more Fantasy and esp. Chaos Dwarves (<- my current love and project). They are still the only "Yes, we can" fraction in an otherwise static and uninspired company. Still hoping that they find time to copy all those magnificent terrain concepts from the Warhammer Online game.

Poor folks can always turn to all plastic armies like the Empire and buy Greatsword boxes instead

This would be a particularly shrewd move on the part of GW/FW, too - don't forget that a large chunk of the CD army can easily be supplemented by the current plastic lines (being Greenskins). To update the whole army, FW would need to produce, hmmm, three units of CDs (Bull-Centaurs, Blunderbusses and Warriors), two monstrous creatures and some glorious war engines... the army wouldn't even be massively expensive to buy in that case (unless you absolutely had to have every last thing from the list).
