Clash of the Titans Nuada Vs Redben!

Hello folks, myself and redben are going down to a wargaming convention this weekend but on friday we will be visiting the gaming mecca that is Warhammer world.
Having some spare time we've agreed to meet Nuada of warseer fame and redben will even play him at Warhammer Fantasy. Redben is on a 5 game undefeated streak ever since he bought some plaguebearers and a herald However nuada is no mug and he has lots of tricks with his Orcs and Goblins!

The question is will redben's undefeated streak continue or will Nuada be able to bog his demons down with Boyz?

Vote now folks and one correct guesser will win a pint at Bugman's bar (only valid this friday 2nd october, not open to Nuada or redben, only applies when I've not ran out of beer money, more disclaimers in case someone outsmarts me here)

Afraid I voted for a massacre for nuada, completley because I'm slightly tipsy and want to see the pesky daemons beaten (sorry redben!)

I voted a solidfor the deamons. Nurgle is pretty tough for orcs to beat.

Their toughness helps against demonettes, they can rush horrors, and they can beat up bloodletters on the charge, but against the green blobs the green boyz get bogged down and things go bad fast...

Yeah....Malorian pretty much sums up my thoughts. From my experience the Orc player has to REALLY outplay the Nurgle player to have a shot, and it will be tough if Redben plays a solid game.

To be fair it won't all eb nurgle, there'll be other god's but he does have a unit of plaguebearers, a herald and even a greater unclean one

We finished the game, dunno if selone is gonna write it up so i'll say nothing. But it was an entertaining game with the advantage shifting from one side to the other. Good to meet you guys, i enjoyed it

Heya, I just got back from a two day WFB 2,000 tournament so I'll likely have my hands full writing that up. So please feel free to tell everyone about the game Nuada

It was very definitely a game of two halfs and the final result was in no way a reflection of how the game played out. I've a fair bit of experience playing against O&G's but Nuada's list was very different from the more defensive list Selone prefers. I'll hold off giving away the result til I have more time to write about what happened.

Yeah i'm up for that, i enjoyed it. If it's a weekend visit i might be able to arrange something (eg. a multi player game or scenario)

Okay I’m writing up a battle report I was in last Friday. I think this is an accurate account, if there’s anything I’ve done wrong either redben or selone let me know and I’ll edit it.

By the way, the illustrations might not be 100% accurate, i tried to get them as close as possible.

Despite having loads of units to deploy (Orcs had 13 units, DoC had 8) I managed to get the first turn.


Orc Turn 1

My savage orcs get a “we’ll show ‘em and move up 2”. The other unit of savage orcs squabbles. Every else moves up. I put my two wandering shamans in a woods to protect them from screamers.
Foot of Gork does one wound to a flamer.

DoC Turn 1

Both Screamer units fly to a position where they can fly over lots of orc units next turn, and he also makes sure they can’t be charged, and they now march block quite a few of my units. A very good move.

The flamers move into range, and only kill 2 savage orcs (DoC were a bit unlucky with the rolling) . In the magic phase flickering fire dishes out four str7 hits to one of my boar chariots, auto killing it.

Orc Turn 2

Right….. Now I’m 16” away with two of my orc units. Minus my movement of 8 that’s 8”…. if I declare waaagh!, then cast waaagh that’s 3d6 needing 8 or more.
I gamble and decide to waaagh.
With the waaagh spell in mind I position my pump wagons and chariots to sling shot a charge on the screamers.
Only two units waaagh, unfortunately one is the savage orc unit miles away, but it’s still useful.

In the magic phase I’m using power stones for extra dice, I have 14 power dice. Foot of Gork does 2 more wnds to the flamers (killing one) and Waaagh is cast. Both units of Screamers are charged……… but bad news is my generals unit rolls a 5 and finishes right in front of his bloodletter unit.
My night goblin moves to within 8” of the blood letters, both fanatics smash through my orc boyz, then his bloodletters. 3 bloodletters die, 5 orcs die.
All the Screamers are easily killed.

DoC Turn 2

Fleshhounds turn 90 degrees so he can flank charge my savage orcs if they charge his horrors or flamers. This forces me to hold with them longer than i wanted to. Bloodletters charge my orc boyz (I pass my Ld against fear) his general kills my general. Some unlucky rolling by redben results in a draw, I win by 1 with a musician, he makes the Break test.

Orc Turn 3

A pump wagon charges his plaguebearers. One fanatic spins off the board, the other comes back through the bloodletters, the orc unit and finishes 1” in front of my night goblins. (under their robes, those goblins are sweating) I roll as well as I can here….. 1 hit on the orcs, and 6 on the bloodletters.
For magic I miscast and take a wound on my lvl4 shaman, irresistible force with Foot of Gork kills another 2 flamers.

My pump wagon does 3 wnds on the plaguebearers … I flee and he fails to restrain his troops, the plaguebearers pursue and don’t catch my pump wagon.

DoC Turn 3

Plaguebearers reform. Flamers and Horrors move back.
In the Bloodletter v Orc Boyz combat there’s lots of carnage, it ends as a draw again. Same result I win by 1 with a musician, DoC Ld test is passed with a BSB reroll.
Magic and flamers kill more savage orcs. (as I remember it DoC are fairly unlucky with some of the str rolls for the random daemon strength magic missile)

Orc Turn 4

Now my rolling goes a bit crazy. For the pump wagon movement two of them roll the max 12”, the other moves the min. 2”. Every unit that can suffer from animosity does so. Both savage orc units squabble and the night goblins get a we’ll show ‘em ladz and move 2” right ontop of their own fanatic. This kills another 8 NG’s.
The fleeing pump wagon doesn’t rally and he flees 10”, just enough to take him off the board.
My NG shaman has a miscast, rolls a 3 and his head blows up

In combat the pump wagons get 18 str4 impact hits, 10 wounds, 3 die. Hilarously a snotling kills another. Plaguebearers do 2 wounds back and my pump wagons leg it, one being caught.

Doc Turn 4

The combat between Bloodletters and Orc Boyz continues. Bloodletters lose and pass their break test.

Orc Turn 5

My big unit of Savage orcs squabble.
Three of my chariots charge, all pass their fear tests. (I know the illustration doesn’t quite match)
1st chariot charges the flamers…. Stand and shoot inflicts 3 wnds. The chariot kills all the remaining flamers and the herald takes 3 wnds. Two are saved by wards. Then amazingly the herald damages my chariot and kills it.
2nd/3rd chariots charge the plague bearers, both flee
The combat between Bloodletters and Orc Boyz continues. Now I lose combat, but I pass my Ld test. (I’m not outnumbered)
I miscast again with my lvl4 orc shaman, he takes a wound.

DoC Turn 5

The Fleshhounds flank charge my Orc Boyz. The daemon units easily beat my orcs, there's 2 Bloodletters and the herald left, and 5 fleshhounds. I’m outnumbered now and need insane courage. I flee and they’re all caught. (that included my lvl2 orc shaman)

Turn 6 Orcs and Daemons
I miscast for the 3rd turn in the row..... can't remember if he died here
The daemons declare a welter of charges, charging my savage orcs with plaguebearers and the surviving 2 bloodletters and herald, fleshhounds charged something as well.




End of game
Well there you go, turned out the Daemons got a massacre against my poor old innocent orcs. I only travelled north to ask for a bowl of sugar
We were all surprised the result ended that way, it felt much closer. I still enjoyed it, always good to find a challenge for my orcs I must admit after turn 2 i thought i had the game, but redben played it well and got the advantage back.

Pretty much ended like I thought it would, although with all those chariots you had be doubting myself

I think the waaagh! wasn't a bad move as it took out the screamers but then I think you should have held back the assault until the chariots caught up to help out.

Had the orcs waited for the deamons to charge them the fanatics would have gone through the orcs and the bloodletters would have landed on them for a massive 4D6 hits.

Anyway good report and always interesting to see two Warseerites go at it. (And fear the day I vacation in the UK and hunt you down )

Thanks for the report Nuada It was a very interesting and enjoyable game to watch and it certainly was a very well balanced game until turn 6. Your shaman didn't die on the last turn.
Nuada must have some sort of record of the man to roll the most 1's and 6's in a game, I've never seen so much, the amounts of irrestible forces, miscasting, squabbling, lets show em'ing, massively moving or snails pace pump wagons was amazing. In the end it created average results just in a spectacular way.

hopefully it can be selone Vs nuada soon enough!

Yeah it was strange, normally i go whole games without any miscasts or IFs. How did that snotling kill a plaguebearer? (4's to hit, 6's to wnd... then a 5+ ward and 4+ regen).. some odd rolling in that game.
Got to say redben was also fairly unlucky with some of those random str magic missiles.
