Default 8th Edition and new starter set.

Dosadi posted this over on BoLS.

Quote Not to drop a bomb or anything, but yes, 8th edition will be out next summer with a new boxed set in the fall. I’ve heard Empire vs. Orks in the box with a new O&G book out in Q1 2010. Plastic Empire Knights and Orc Boar boys will be in the new set I’ve heard. They keep one-upping themselves with the box sets so I would expect a mountain of amazing plastics in the new starter set.
Sounds about right. (Although opinions vary. )

Having seen concept sketches for the new Knights and Brians work on the new boars I am fairly excited about these.

EDIT Dosadi posts later in the thread to correct himself.
He mistakenly typed 2010 when he meant 2011 for the new O&G book.

Sounds a bit more like it.

Dosadi is usually pretty accurate.

EDIT: (Although this is not the only combination of armies in the starter set I have heard).

Also whilst I was expecting more Orcs and Goblins the new book is news to me.

Didn't see this one coming.

Looks like alot of books won't get their 7th edition update.

Wow....so early. Likely means there'll be orcs or empire following beasts then?

Well, if Orcs are likely a Q1 release then that would seem to put them after beasts... or before...?

That was within my expectations, since I thought they would have to use archetypically opposed forces.

However, if they do actually bring out the 8th Edition next summer, that would mean BoC would be the last of the 7th's, and that the next two would probably be Empire and O&G.

Dunno... I wouldn't mind a new O&G book, and hopefully they put someone on it that actually likes the army and brings them back in line with the rest.

But I think it's a bit unfair towards armies that haven't seen a new book yet. Beastmen and Tomb Kings have theirs, but what about Bretonnia? And Ogres and Wood Elves are also older then the O&G book, isn't it?

WAAAAAAAAGH!!!

Alright, I'm feeling the pull of the Greenskin horde for quite some time now, and if they do a new O&G book, preferably while sorting out last of the metal models, you can count me in!

However, Q1 2010!?! Are you absolutely sure? Have you heard something that might support this, Harry? Because...

Well, this would be within the next 5 months, so someone should have heard something about it by now, AND it would necessarily have to be only one month after Beasts, if the February release remains confirmed.

Then again, 2010 is supposed to be the year of fantasy, so everything seems possible! I'm really looking forward to the awesomeness GW seems to have in store for us!

Well then....does it mean beast herds will rank 5 wide only long enough for 8th edition to make the rank minimum 6 wide? :P

That would be quite funny. Although, not so much for beast players.

Could be they will be the first army to take into account the 8th edition changes.

(I feel like the Skaven might have beat them to this).

Harry is there any chance I'll be a happy Wood Elves or Bretonnia player soon? Fluff and model wise they're my favorites but I just don't want to play old books. (I just know you won't be able to tell me what I want to hear. )

People are calling 8th 7.5, but since 7 was 6.5, doesn't that make 8 6.75?

8th Edition next summer/fall isn't really a surprise anymore, but a new O&G book so soon certainly is a surprise for me.

Yea I don't know about this assumption that 8th will only be a minor change.

The only thing I got from Harrys comment was that Empire and Orcs will not be next, I am gonna lean specifically to the Empire not being in that plan. They are a solid book and if 8th can fix some other power creep since Empire through general rules we will have a great game again.

If Death stars, magic mechanics, Cavalary dominance, and Gun line/magic gun lines are addressed with the core rules then all the books (cept DoC) will look a lot more streamlined and externally balanced.

I see it as 8th being a big deal, OnG being released after BoC because they really do need it, and then they pick up from TK, Brets, Ogres, and W/E's.
