What about the binding!?! OH LORD SAVE THE BINDING!!! That books is NEVER EVER in a million years gunna hold together more than a week! And what about the pocket books that come with starter sets? Are they to assume we all wear those jeans with the outrageously huge pockets? When we take our rule books out to open them should we say a prayer and kiss them? Are we gunna need special collapsible podiums, just to be able to thumb through it?

Part of this excites me. Part of it terrifies me. I hope they revamp the whole system, because everything is so out of whack. On the other hand what's this beast gunna cost me? I think 75 american is a pretty conservative estimate (knowing GW).

But if its just 300 pages of fluff I'll face-palm so hard you'll hear it in space.

Okay since so many people can't seem to get this: There, refers to a location, as in "hey look over there." They're is the contraction "they are" as in "they're riding bikes." Their is plural possessive, as in "That's their car." I hope that helps.

I heard that addition to the rules there is a big background section, a big hobby section (modelling and painting section) and a big scenarios and different ways to play Warhammer section. (Scenarios and stuff like generals compendium?).

BRING IT ON!

Oh and you are not going to be carrying this one around with you. This is the one that stays at home.
You will be carrying the small rule book around with you ... same as now.

Mine's the first. My wife is so going to question my manhood, when I ask her to reserve a book for my birthday this year.

A book pertaining to grown men playing with toy soldiers, at that. I mean it could have been a book on rebuilding Chevy engines, that'd be pretty manly, right?

I'm not worried if it's 500 plus pages, as long as there's something worthwhile reading in there; having said that, one author isn't sufficient to pen it, and you'd need a team of editors if they started to do some revisions on copy-paste stuff from existing army books in order to bring the rules in line with the new edition, without having to immediately issue an errata.

This is a large project, perhaps everything was compartmentalized so that if anything leaks, the culprit would be immediately obvious.

2-3 pgs each for 15 scenarios are around 40pgs.
Putting back in terrain generator charts could be 10 more pages.
20pgs to explain the new magic, step up rule and the nonsense charging rules.
2-5 pages to explain new % system.

That brings you up to around 375pgs.

If they want to give us siege rules, naval rules and skirmish rules(which they promised were right around the corner when 7th was first released), say 15ish pages for each.

You're at 415pgs. Say they are nice and give us a full bestiary(without point values or special rules explanations - at least not in full detail). That could easily be 80pgs.

Fill out about 30 pages with your standard catalog of miniatures(buy now!) in the guise of painting and hobby.

Include a 3 page apology and there you go.

528pgs.
20 pages to explain changes to the magic system? Are you for real, if magic is that complicated in 8th Edition I don't think I want it. Warhammer already has more rules than I can hold in my head during the course of a game, I don't need an exponential expansion.

If so, please, please, please let there be Chaos Dwarfs in it! There was a picture of a Chaos Dwarf in the last rulebook, so why not give them a short army list in this one?
Its not impossible, but I'd be surprised if they passed up the chance to print the army lists in a separate book and sell that as well, rather than lumping it all together in one mother rulebook that most younger gamers wont even be able to lift, let alone read.

Ummmm, remember the release of 6th Edition? Two words, "Vampire Counts". The 5th Ed VC book was released 3 months before 6th Edition totally invalidated it, and beasts will have had nearly 6 months of operation before 8th.

I am slightly concerned though, this book is going to be one expensive mother tome, I was hoping they would do the same deal they did last time in the month before the release and offer a free rule book to anyone who bought up the old starter set stock. I'm sensing this is now somewhat unlikely. What do you think we're looking at Ł50 for the rulebook?

Is it not awesome that we get a weapon along with our favorite Hobby? Imagine someone says "You play Warhammer, what a freak you are!" And you can answer "Orly? Talk to Mr. Herohammer here..." *insert sound of whacking someone's brains out with 530 pages of pure awesomeness that have, ironically, a hammer printet on top of them*

I'm looking forward to more background and painting tips, anyway =)

there was talk of 15 missions. so you can count 34 pages for this part (2 pages per mission + 4 pages of rules). then they might reinclude terrain tables, another 10 pages. a battle report etc.

and dumbing down the rules doesn't mean that they get shorter by any means. it just means that they are more accessible for dumber people.

It would be a fair guess to presume that the eight edition will actually include cupholders, frigobox, aircondition and offcourse 3D goggles to make the battlefield expirience come even more alive then ever before.

In this case more is indeed better. I start to have a faint parfume of excitemend here.

Weird. And here I thought most of the rule changes were 'additions' to the current rules, rather than making them simpler.
Variable charge ranges, fighting in more ranks, firing in more ranks, big guys stomping on stuff, cavalry impact hits. None of that sounds like it would subtract from the rules page count.

Actually, a painting guide for each army would be brilliant. On 500+ pages, they can fit it in. I wouldn't mind trying my hand painting human flesh, but as it is right now, I suck at it. Non-human flesh, I rock at!

Human flesh? Not so much. With the exception of my Witch Elves, I have never made realistic flesh tones and I have no idea what I did to my Witch Elves to make them look good.

If they release a RH in the army book it explains why the beastmen book seems a bit half-done... It just had to be ok enough so that people wouldn't get suspicious

I have several large and incredibly dull academoc textbooks that run to the 550 page mark. Even as paper back editions they weigh a flippin ton! There is no way I would carry one of those things across town on its own, let alone when I have an army case, army book etc etc etc weighing me down also...

Why can't they go back to the good old days and have multiple books? One for core rules, one for magic rules, one for basic scenarios, one for crazy scenarios and one for modelling and hobby... Then at least I could halve the weight I have to carry? Still sell em in one go, perhaps in a box that looks like a book so they can all be kept together..

Anyway, if 538 is true in a single book then I will definatley be after a small version from the starter set asap!

They´ve said it's gonna be 528 pages, but did they mention the size of the papper? what if they´re going to print it in A5 size?

I gotta say, I'm excited for the realese. I just really hope that they include paragraphs of those "WTFBBQ #Facepalm# roll a 4+ and see what happens..."-moments...

They hired some psychics, and the balance of 200 pages is actually the FAQ.
