Default Kruzkal's Dragon Ogre Conversion

I am converting Dragon Ogres from Ironguts and Lizarmen Cold Ones. My inspiration is the Dragon Ogre from p. 27 of the Beat of Chaos army book. I want them to be more slick to match their 7" movement.

As I am still waiting for the Ironguts to arrive from the post, lets begin on the Cold ones. For some bizarre reason the Cold Ones in the box Don't match the ones in the picture of the box.

The ones on the box:

The ones in the box:

Obviously the front legs of the Dragon Ogres would need to be beefed up and extended:

It is good to know that 6 year old green stuff I found in the shed still works ^.^

And claws:

And a bit more:

What do you guys think?

Pretty cool so far. Is the saddle-part supposed to be a different texture, though? That's the only quibble I have, otherwise it's really nice stuff

My feeble attempt to turn the saddle cloth to chain mail. This is actually my first real attempt at green stuff after a 6 year break from Warhammer

Basically I am still waiting fro the Ironguts to arrive. This is going to be a prototype for a unit of 4 Dragon Ogres with great weapons.

If you paint it as mail, it'll be identifiable as such. Otherwise, the best bet is to make the dotting really regular (like a grid) and really compact.

You are right. This is only a prototype so I shall fix this when I make the final veriosn. I have also considered placing fur over the cloth too.

My main problem will be getting the Dragon Ogre to fit on the 40x40 base nicely as the pose of the Cold One is rather stretched out. And only one plastic Cold One is available which is a bit of a pain.

All comments and suggestions welcome!

Yeah, it looks good. Even beefpizza, that sculpting guru, said so, and then it's really good.

My Ironguts arrived today! My first task after the usual tidying up of edges is to get rid off the legs. Drawing those dotted lines and using a scalpel made me feel a bit like Nip Tuck lol...

The fat asses of the Ogres were incredibly tough to cut. Took me absolutely ages to do three.

Once more to do...

I had the same worry initially but I think the beef up of the front legs pretty much sorted the problem.

it is probably going to be a while until my next update as I am not a particularly fast worker. And I am going to do 4 lower bodies with green stuff at once. So bear with me.

Thanks you all for support!

Looks quite good so far. I must admit, I was a bit scepticle, but they look good. Can we get a front view of the model and/or other angles?

The torso and arms are not glued on yet so this is just to show the body parts ratio.

Wow, very impressive! I'll be keeping a close eye on this one, even though I know I couldn't hope to be able to do something like that at this point.

Awesome! Simply brilliant! Once done I'm sure these will blow the GW Dragon Ogres out of the water!
I'm looking foward to seeing these finished. Keep up the good work!

I like, I like a lot!

One thing I would suggest - I'm not entirely sure I like the gutplate. Have you considered instead modelling a slightly slimmer gut and then covering that with chainmail? I doubt the dragon ogres are in touch enough with ogre civilization to place much emphasis on the gut, while ogre models seem designed to me to draw attention to them...

But you've inspired me to try and build one of these for myself! I already have way too many modelling projects on, so shame on you!

I get what you're saying about the gutplate, Aelyn, but as it is I don't think it really ends up looking like a typical Ogre Kingdoms style gutplate...to me it looks like a random old piece of armour...not to mention sporting a nasty spike to impale one's enemies on

However, you might have a bit of a point if all the Dragon Ogres in the unit seem to be wearing gutplates...that might look a little OK'ish. I mean, this isn't at all a big deal...they're looking insanely awesome regardless.

However, kruzkal, do you plan on giving them all that same pseudo-gutplate treatment as you've done to the first? Having seen here how good you are with green stuff, maybe you should try and make the next Dragon Ogre without the gutplate...maybe sculpt a bare, muscled stomach? Or chainmail, as Aelyn suggested? I don't know, like I said it's a very small thing....but from what I've seen from you, scuplting a stomach on one of the buggers wouldn't be beyond your capabilities by any means.

Once again, these are looking amazing.

I am not entirely sure what I will end up doing yet. But this picture was my inspiration:

The gut plate also hides the fact that the Irongut torsos are rather fat and has man-boobs he he

Wow, thats amazing! Great work! I really thought the ogre body would be far too large, but you proved me wrong! I really think you're doing a great job here!

PS: what about some scales on the ogres hide to show a bit of his "devotion"?
and to blend him in with the rest of his body.
