Wintermute 05/03/2010 - 11:23 Event News Hordes Privateer Press Warmachine
The Official European Hordes and Warmachine Team Challenge, takes place on July 3rd & 4th 2010, at “The Eye of The Storm”. Our new national gaming venue is located in Mansfield, England which is right in the centre of the UK, and easily accessible from Europe via several major airports, as well as all road and rail links from entry ports on the east and south coasts of the country. The event brings teams of 4 players working together to compete for the title of 2010 Hordes and Warmachine European Team Champions. Each member of your team plays 5 games over the weekend and at the end of each game the scores are added together to get a ‘team’ score. Teams then get drawn against each other using the Swiss system. Members from the UK tournament scene Team Octopii are to be thanked for the concept and their hard work creating a working rules pack. The tournament is open to teams from all over Europe and is expected to be hotly contested as teams battle it out to see exactly who does “have a pair!” This event has been sanctioned by Privateer Press as their official team event for Europe, and there are a lot of very experienced people working hard behind the scenes to bring this event to reality. There are tons of fantastic prize support throughout this event and Privateer Press themselves are providing some really cool and unique prizes for the winners. More details will unfold as the weeks pass by, in the meantime follow the links on the Maelstrom site to get your team tickets. They are on sale from tomorrow Friday March 5th.

Hello, As I'm sure you know by now, I will be attempting the Welsh 3000s Challenge in late June with Siobhan, my better half, to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. The Welsh 3000s Challenge involves ascending all of Wales' 3000ft mountains within the space of twenty-four hours, which should take us just over seventeen hours to complete. We will be attempting the Welsh 3000s Challenge in memory of my uncle Stan, who passed away earlier this year after a long struggle with cancer. I have set up a Just Giving sponsors page for anyone who would like to sponsor our attempt of the Welsh 3000s Challenge. You will need to quickly register with Just Giving, which should only take a few minutes. If you have already sponsored, then please forward this email on to other people, as any and all donations will be greatly appreciated by Cancer Research UK. If you would like to promote, provide support, help out in any way, or even take part in any of the trial hikes we will be undertaking in the next few months, then please let me know as I would be most grateful for any form of support. A thread to discuss the Challenge on WarSeer can be found here. Maelstrom Games are pleased to announce the launch of our very own Event Forums. They are for the discussion of Maelstrom Events only, and allow us the opportunity of keeping players and hobbyists informed of all the exciting events which take place at The Eye of The Storm. As our new venue becomes more and more established, we are conscious of the potential for our ever increasing range of events to start dominating the discussion forums of the independent websites. This is something which we do not want to happen so, for obvious reasons, we have decided to set up a separate location.

On dozens of papers I wrote tidbits and ideas for scenarios, the story itself only changed slightly from its original inception, but it was always more a lingering state then an active one. There have been times I did not touch the project for many months. At moments when I went back I only re-arranged scenario set-ups for most part. It was only after Chris Lautermilch and I wrote the Art of Command and Distant Sun, the two supplements to Project Distant Darkness, I finally felt the click for Starblade in 2009. What also helped was the fan community at the Black Library forums (currently under construction, meanwhile you can go here). Through them my skills at writing (hopefully!) improved and suddenly I knew how I would want Starblade to take form: in the manifestation of a poem. Inspired by the Elves poems in Tolkien (I would never dare to say rivalling them) I wrote the Starblade poem within two weeks from the beginning to the end. What is left to tell about the poem is that a small addition, maybe the final click, has rooted the story within the storyline Chris and I created for Project Distant Darkness. An ever-growing storyline, which gets more and more life into it, the upcoming supplements will finally reveal more about the direction we took within this storyline. When the poem was completed I finally had the motivation to finish and clean up the scenarios I had in mind. And now it finally all came together. Starblade has been finished. I hope you will enjoy this piece in its finest essence as I have intended. The Art In this Starblade publication I tried to give the art a fine treatment and prominent role. All in all I can say that I must thank Karneth immensely for his work, as this publication would only be a glimpse of what it now is. Enjoy! You can download Starblade here note: I advice to download the document and view it as a book. Thus start page 1, then page 2-3 next to eachother, then 4-5, etc.
