[img_assist|nid=622|title=|desc=|link=popup|align=r ight|width=141|height=200] The Bolter & Chainsword forum have produced Shall They Know Fear - The Bolter & Chainsword Guide To 5th Edition. The Guide, which can be downloaded as a pdf, is intended to make the transition from the 4th Edition rules to the recently released 5th Edition rules of Warhammer 40,000 smoother for Space Marine players.

It was only a matter of time really. Upper Deck Entertainment, makers of the WoW card game, are now doing a Warcraft miniatures game too. It seems the format will be more akin to Warhammer Quest than big armies though. The name Studio McVey might ring a bell for GW fans out there (check out the fantastic work on their site), they're the people responsible for the WoW miniature colour schemes. Upper Deck have some some veteran sculptors on board too. Sadly, I'm not too impressed by the flat colour (though that's probably more a limitation of the "pre-painted" format) or the miniature detail, in spite of the nice poses. Still, this is the kind of thing GW should be doing to save their plummeting stock price - going with a new long term license instead of closing business units whose products sold out in minutes. Frankly their continued incompetence, both as a business and in retaining creative talent, stuns me sometimes.

For those of you who can't get enough of the superb Dawn of War computer game, prepare to have your battle-lust sated once more - the next expansion for the deliciously brutal Warhammer 40,000 RTS has just been announced. Soulstorm will add Dark Eldar as well as air units and a Risk-style campaign spread over an entire star system. You can read the full press release here. A second race will be included in the stand-alone expansion, however they have yet to be announced. Sisters of Battle? Maybe even Tyranids?

Colonel Jacka recently took the opportunity to visit Warhammer World and speak to GW legend, Jervis Johnson. Colonel Jacka has very kindly allowed us to publish his interview here. Late last year while reading my latest issue of WD (Sorry I subscribe!) I noticed in Jervis Johnson’s Standard Bearer article that he was throwing out an invite to have a meeting with him to talk about gaming to anyone from overseas that was visiting Warhammer World. “Drop me a letter if you’re planning to visit Warhammer World.” Well as it turned out I was in fact on my way overseas and had fully intended to visit Warhammer world. So grabbing the pen and paper I dispatched an express post letter of to Jervis. Within a couple of days I received this email. Dear Peter, Thanks for your recent letter. I'd be more than happy to meet you on the 15th January. Just go to Warhammer World and ask one of the staff if they can give me a call, and I'll come over to meet you. Best regards, Jervis Johnson I guess you only have to ask sometimes. So to cut a long story short, I put out the word here on Warseer and asked what for questions to ask Jervis Johnson. The questions rolled in and armed with them I headed to England. Hmmm, via Hong Kong of course. So what you have here is a story that covers my visit to Warhammer World and my talk with Jervis Johnson.

(Brandir has provided us with a report of the UK WARMACHINE Tournament at Game 06 which took place on 29th April. However, due to circumtances beyond my control (honest) I haven't been able to post his article until now. Sorry - Wintermute) On Saturday 29 th April 2006 the largest (to date!) WARMACHINE tournament took place at Game 06 at the Thistle Birmingham City. Game 06 was organised jointly by the Stourbridge and October wargaming clubs and also hosted the Euro D&D Miniatures Championship and a major 24-player UK Flames of War tournament. I had the dubious privilege of being the head referee of the WARMACHINE tournament in my capacity as a Privateer Press Ganger. |
