View Full Version : The Tale Of Fantasy Painters. Month Two Work (Month Three WIP).

31-08-2007, 22:38

Hello, fellow painters, Yes another month has gone by already and its that time again. The Tale Of Fantasy Painters monthly update!

For those of you who are participating, this is the official thread in which you should post the work you have done in month two.

This month you should post up to three photographs of your months work and the forth should be a photo of the army so far. (The last two months work).

You should either post (approx) 200 points of your chosen army OR play a joker as soon as possible.

Remember if you are doing more than one army you should do a separate post for each army as if each army were a different painter

Unlike last month (when participants in the Tale should were asked to post here “ONCE and ONCE ONLY!”) this month you can post here as much as you like.

This thread is the thread for posting your work, the thread for comment on the work posted and the thread for WIP for next month.

(It seemed a real shame when last month all the wonderful photos of your hard work disappeared off the board. This way the photos of your work and your armies to date will remain at the start of the thread throughout the month for all to see).

Please include photos of each unit you have painted, and a photo of your entire army so far. Photos should be cropped or resized to less than 1024 by 1024 pixels to avoid scrollbars and ensure the thread doesn’t take too long to load. However, please post no more than 4 images per month (Please don’t use multiple posts to add extra images). If you want to show more than 4 photos, then either include links to your photo album, or attachments and/or include a link and invite readers to view your painting log (if you have one) to see more of your work and get more feed back.

With the photographs of you work please include a description of each character/unit you have painted, including the number and type of models, and any upgrades, items and equipment they carry, followed by the total points cost of the unit and, if you have painted more than one unit, give the total points cost of your months work.

You can also say anything you like about the highs and lows of your months painting. What you enjoyed or found hard, what you were especially pleased with, etc.

I have posted my armies using the format which seemed to work well last month. Please feel free to do the same. (or not!)

I hope you have all had a great months painting.
I can’t wait to enjoy the results.

All the best

The aim of The Tale of Painters (TOP) is to help motivate those involved to start and complete a 2000 point army in the next twelve months.

The painters involved have made a commitment to paint and post, by the last day of each month, approx 200 points of their chosen army. They do this each month for the next 12 months. Starting with the last day of July 2007.

However, because people have real lives with exams, holidays, honeymoons, new babies etc, etc. They get two 'Jokers'. For two months within the year you can ‘play a joker’ and rather than post an update they can post saying "sorry guys couldn't get it done this month. Real life got in the way." But the other 10 Months they have to come up with (approx) 200 points of painted and based figures. 200 points for 10 out of the next 12 months.

In twelve months time we will all end up with a finished 2000 point army.

All chat, questions, discussion, WIP, painting advice, encouragement, tutorials, etc, etc, should be on this thread.
(or in individual painters own project logs).

A new thread will be opened on the last day of each month for each painter to post the next 200 point ‘update’ for the army they are painting and a picture of the army to date.
(OR one post for EACH army for those nutters painting more than one army!)

I will just take this opportunity to thank all the painters who have signed up for their interest and enthusiasm and for their ideas that have helped shape this project. I wish you all the best of luck and I hope this project is a big success for everyone involved. I also hope 'the viewers at home' enjoy the results of all the work of the painters involved.

UNIT: 10 Thunderers and a Thane.

BACKGROUND/THEME: The whole army will be based around a Zhufbar theme. Zhufbar Is home to the Dwarf Engineers guild it is the center for metal work and every kind of industry. I imagined the dwarfs of Zhufbar to have embraced the new technology of black powder weapons so Thunderers were a must have unit.

BUILD/CONVERSION: The Thane is an unconverted Flame cannon crew. The Thunderers are identical Marauder Dwarfs. They have the same big feet and stomachs as last months clansmen so seemed to fit well with them.

PAINTING: As last time I wanted my dwarfs to look like leather clad smiths to match the leather aprons of some of the characters I have also been working on. They were painted snakebite leather and washed with brown ink all over just like last time before painting the chainmail black and dry brushing it.

BASING; Gritty sand, painted bestial brown, highlighted with Snakebite leather and bleached bone mixes with static grass added after.

STILL TO DO: Nothing this unit is finished.

HIGHS AND LOWS: I had made a start on these last month and there are less of them so it did not take me so long to do these. I felt in retrospect I should have converted up a champion in some way. I may come back to this unit and do that.

POINTS: 10 Dwarf warriors with Handgun and Handweapon, Light armour. (140 points)
Thane with hand weapon. Light armour. (65 points)

My Dwarf Army so far. (400 points)

31-08-2007, 22:44

UNIT: Spawn of Chaos/Bloodbeast of Khorne.

BACKGROUND/THEME: Vanilla Bloodbeast of Khorne. As part of a Vanilla Daemonic Legion of Khorne.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Nothing special, straight out of the box, classic, Scyla miniature.

PAINTING: I wanted to make him look like the daemons from last month. He was painted blood red all over then given an ink wash with a mix of red and purple ink. Claws and fur painted black. Fur drybrushed grey. Metalics on collar.

BASING: Idea adapted from Mouskillers Project log. (Many Thanks) Tried to take the idea a bit futher from last months daemons. So this time I added some bits of cork tile for more depth and then painted these black and drybrushed with greys the rivers of lava were then painted with red gore, scab red, blood red, orange, and yellow carefully letting some of the previous colours show.

HIGHS AND LOWS: No lows. He was really quick to paint in the simple style I have adopted. I was really pleased with how the base turned out this time.

STILL TO DO: Nothing this unit is finished. (Not sure if I should pick out some spikes in green to tie him into the hellblades of the Bloodletters?)

POINTS: Not sure yet. The original Scyla was well over 200 points but a standard spawn of Chaos/bloodbeast of Khorne is only 75 points.

My Demon Army so far. (400 points)

31-08-2007, 22:53

UNIT(S) : The Beastmasters of Karond Kar.

BACKGROUND/THEME: None (Yet). The army will be made entirely from vintage Marauder miniatures.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box vintage Marauder Dark Elf war Hydra with two different beastmasters who were originally designed to go with warhounds.

PAINTING: Still having problems settling on a colour scheme for the Elves. (hence the lack of paint!)
The Hydra kind of suggested its own colours so I went with it painting the lion body…lion coloured and the lizard like heads…lizard coloured.

BASING: I put the group on a chariot base. (Rather than leave them as three separate mini’s). I put them on a rock to make the Hydra a bit more imposing. It is quite small compared to the current one. Around the edge is the same as the other bases to tie it in with the rest of the army (Gritty sand, scorched brown highlighted with bestial brown and bleached bone mixes. I have left these looking more baron as I imagine the far north of Naggaroth to be).

STILL TO DO: Lots. I have yet to settle on colours for the clothing of this army.

HIGHS AND LOWS: I am still struggling with the look I am after for these Dark Elves. I thought this would be an easy month painting but the scales and detail on the hydra took forever and I still want to do another extreme highlight on the green. Nice to paint up this old mini. I like this Hydra so much more than the current one. I am not happy with either the rock or the yellow ‘beaks’. Both were done in a hurry to get finished earlier today

POINTS: 1 Hydra with two beastmasters/handlers (200 Points)

My Dark Elf Army So far. (400 points)

31-08-2007, 22:58

UNIT: Un-named spirit Host.

BACKGROUND/THEME: No theme selected. Vanilla Undead (at this point).

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box. Three spirit hosts. The interesting bit is my ‘unit fillers’ made from the warhammer quest plastic archway.

PAINTING: Simplicity itself. Painted them codex grey all over and then drybrushed them with increasing amounts of fortress grey and then skull white. The archway was given the same treatment.

BASING: Gritty sand, Scorched brown highlighted with snakebite leather and bleached bone mixes with static grass applied to finish them off. Went to town on the 'vegitation' on the unit fillers and used just a bit of the long grass and ivy on the spirit hosts to tie the unit together.

STILL TO DO: Nothing. These are done.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Really quick to paint. The unit filler idea worked really well and adds something to the unit to make it look far more interesting than the straight out of the box unit.

POINTS: Spirit Host. Three bases (195 Points).

My Vampire Counts so far. (400 points)

Sadly, I have not quite finished my High Elves yet. (It has been a busy month).
I will try my best to get them finished over the weekend and make a full post when they are done.

Here they are as WIP

01-09-2007, 01:33
The Middenland and Middenheim 8th

Units: 10 swordesmen,10 spearmen, and 3 Pistoliers

Backround: Middenlanders and Middenheimers that are fighting against a recent greenskin invasion.

Building/Conversion: Really just some swaps and nothing really else of much interest.

Painting: Nothing else to say about the troops. But the horses are a little different matter. Brown horses are a basecoat of scorched brown then bestial brown and finally vermin brown. White horses are a basecoat of codex grey then highlighted with fortress gery and last highlight is staight skull white. Grey horses are basecoated codex grey then washed with black and highlited with codex grey and then extremely highlited with fortress grey.

Baseing: Just sand painted bestial brown and drybrushed with desert yellow. Then add static grass.

Still to do: Got to come up with a design for the Middenheim spearmen banner.

Highs and Lows: None I can think of except almost forgeting to finish them.

Points:10 swordesmen with full command pts=85
10 spearmen with full command pts=70
3 pistoliers with Outrider champion with repeater pistol pts=71
total 226

Army shot of 400 points

Next month I actually know what I want to paint, and it shall be a wizard lord... and thats it.

01-09-2007, 06:46
...and a hill and a bush. Sadly, no extra credit for that. :D
Those pistoliers are looking good. You seem to have nailed the horses especially.

01-09-2007, 10:14
Painter Name: Arhalien
Army Name: Wood Elves; The Twilight Host.

Unit: 16 Glade Guard, 2 musicians

Theme: Northern forest separate from Athel Loren. Cursed with Eternal Twilight, the link between it and Athel Loren severed (I have got that aspect of the fluff right? Tell me by pm or the other thread. Thanks!) and all the spirits trapped in the dormant trees. Basically an all Asrai army painted in dark colours.

Building/conversion: Straight from the Blister

Painting: The cloak was done with various mixes of Chao blakc and codex grey, highlighted up to Codex grey. The brown was Chaos black and scorched brown, scorched brown, then dark flesh.

Basing: GW basing sand painted scorched brown, highlighted graveyard earth then khaki. Silver Birch seeds, apinted catachan green, highlighted khaki, and small patches of flock, painted catachan green and ink washed chstnut ink.

Lows: Where to start.... Firstly, Mould Lines; I'd forgotten the delights of mould lines... then the fact that these models were a bit of a pain to assemble, and then the fact that I was batch painting them which made the blending on the cloaks (normally something I really like doing) a bit of a chore as I could never mix up enough paint of the right colour.....
Basically they were a bit of a pain to paint.
Highs: Seeing the units finished ;)

10 Glade Guard, musician=126
6 Glade Guard, musician=78
Total this month=204
Total so far=434

Army so far:

Next month: Glade riders and the final 4 Glade Guard.

01-09-2007, 10:41
I know batch painting can be a pain but you 'powered on' through it and look what you got.

Loving the theme and the look of these guys.

01-09-2007, 10:43
Thanks Harry; hopefully I can carry on "powering on during term time; this month could be a bit of a test.

Zark the Damned
01-09-2007, 11:40
Painter Name: Zark the Damned

Army Name: The Brassbelly Tribe

Unit: No Name's Leadbelchers (I really oughta start coming up with names)

Theme: The Brassbellies are a mercenary tribe currently under contract from Loki Hammerheim of Barak Garaj, smashing Greenskins in the battle for Garaj Gorge (somewhere in the Grey Mountains)

Building/conversion: Two are just standard leadbelchers with th addition of shoulder pads from the Orc Boyz set. The Bellower uses one of the Irongut gutplates. The Thunderfist is a conversion from an Ogre Bull using a spare Empire Cannon.

Painting: More or less the same as the Ironguts; Flesh is Tallarn Flesh highlighted with P3 Midlund Flesh, metals are P3 Pig Iron highlighted with Boltgun Metal. I added some black ink at the end of the Thunderfist's Cannon for a sooty effect.

Basing: Scorched Brown base over sand, drybrushed and edged with Calthan Brown and a light drybrush of Khemri Brown (foundation paints)- I then applied patches of GW Flock. May ad small rocks or static grass clumps later. I have also gone over the Ironguts and Bulls with this basing style.

Lows: Nothing much this month, though the Gnoblar's flame was a bit of a pain.

Highs: Seeing the unit alongside my other minis.

Additional work this month: Basing the Bulls and Ironguts, applying the tribal symbol to banners and backplates. Undercoated the majority of my army.

Points: 3 Leadbelchers with Bellower and Thunderfist = 185
Last month I painted 4 Ironguts with full command = 242

Total so far = 427

@ Harry, I LOVE your spirit host, the fillers/scenery just makes it look even better, really fantastic work.

01-09-2007, 12:52
Thanks Harry; hopefully I can carry on "powering on during term time; this month could be a bit of a test.
You and me both. :D

@Zark the Damned.
Oooh sir. How much better do those look for the different treatment of the bases?

If you wanted to go futher you could try a light dry brush on the earth areas. (bit of bleached bone in your base brown colour) just to add texture. You can do a brighter dry brush on the flock aswell to to good effect. Then, if you wanted to go futher still you could try the odd patch of static grass. Its expensive but you will be amazed how far it goes.
You don't need to just put it where its already green either just more random patches over both surfaces will help break up the 'patchy effect as it does not give a 'hard edge'.

They are starting to look really good all together.
I can see you already have next months done aswell!

@ Harry, I LOVE your spirit host, the fillers/scenery just makes it look even better, really fantastic work.
Thanks mate.

I have answerd you PM. I look forward to the piccies.

The army of Varga Daemonslayer

Models for August: 2 Leadbelchers and 10 Gnoblar Trappers

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight from box

PAINTING: Black undercoat. Midnight Blue up to Regal Blue for trousers. Leather in various shades of Brown. Metal from Tin Bitz with lots of light drybrushes of Boltgun metal and thinned black ink in recesses. Skin done from Scorched Brown==>Tanned Flesh==>Tanned Flesh/Dwarf Flesh mix.

BASING: Black undercoat. Thinned Scorched Brown. Drybrush Codex Grey. Drybrush some patches Graveyard earth. Add GW Scorched Grass in patches and drybrush Graveyard Earth/Kommando Khaki. Repaint the edges of the base black.

STILL TO DO: Add tattoos. Add static grass to a lot of the bases.

HIGHS: All the Gnoblars for the army are finished!

LOWS: Not enough time to paint this month. Had to really rush the Leadbelchers.

POINTS: 2 Leadbelchers with Bellower (120pts)
10 Gnoblar Trappers (60pts)
Total 180pts
Army Running Total = 408 pts

OK, here are some pics. There are a few more in my Project Log showing different angles.

Sorry for poor quality of the pics. Again... Need better lighting and stuff.

Excellent work so far everybody.

@ Harry - I am absolutely in love with your undead army, i've wanted to do one for a while but most of the models are rubbish which is why i'm hoping the new releases for them are good. However, so far yours look awesome, i'm really looking forward to seeing how the army builds up & the look you can get with them all. Really like that Hydra model too.

@ Arhalien - know what you mean about batch painting, in cane be a pain. I would just buy a couple of pots of paints & mix up each of your layers in pots to start with, costs you a few extra quid but its so mcuh easier because you can keep consistent colours. Still, your elves are looking very good and looking forward to seeing the army expand.

@ Dino, like the army, is coming together very nicely. Didn't think much of those blue bases at first but they're growing on me now, when you see the army together it does (surprsingly) work.

@ Zark, nice looking Ogre's. I'm a big fan of skin coloured Ogre's and your look good. Are all those models really only 400 points?!

On my own work - umm, still not finished sorry. Been a very stressful month because I had so much uni work to get done by the 20th then I spent a few days drunk before I got some painting done. Got quite disheartened after starting it because the skin started to look rubbish (even with Armos's really helpful advice) but I've done a few more coats & its looking a bit better though I still can't get it very smooth. Think another coat of watered down bronzed flesh will get it smoothed out enough to do final highlights. Will either get a picture posted within the 'post a picture within a week' limit or play a joker but the former is more likely being that the skin is moast of the miniature!

@ Knighta - pictures damn you!!

@ Cat Ferret - rechargable batteries I tell you!

01-09-2007, 14:03
@Harry: Thx, I kind of have them down I guess. Anyway I love youre dwarfs(being a lover of those breaded little bugers myself), They just look... well.... AWSOME! The spawn looks good to. And could you tell me how you did the lava bases(a budy of mine has been tring to come up with how to paint lava bases and hasn't come up with anything he likes yet.)?The dark elves and spirit hosts also look very good. So all around very good except for the dwarfs which look awsome:D.

@Arhalien: Very nice work man, fluff is also nice.

@zark the dammed: Nice to see a lot of ogers painted and with some very creative ideas(exaple ogre holding the cannon with on hand). Keep up the good work man.

Will post more comments later when more stuff comes up.

Empire Averland Army

UNIT: 20 Swordsmen with full command and a Empire BSB.

BACKGROUND/THEME: Im still undecided about the exact theme, but im going for a Averhiem theme so lots of rank and file and elite units (so no Flagellants, but due to cost issues im looking at the reinforment battalion box so i may have to include them to get the full 2,000 points, we'll see....)

BUILD/CONVERSION: Standard build for them all.

PAINTING: Same as last month, yellow was a base of Dehnab Stone, Illayden Darksun, with Tausept Ochre and Calthu Brown for the shading and Illayaden Darksun with an equal mix of bleched bone for the highlights (and no i dont know how to spell all the paint's names....)

BASING: PVA glue with sand, applied with black ink, then paint with bestial brown and highlighted with drybrushing blubonic brown and then bleched bone.

STILL TO DO: The shields for the swordsmen along with varnishing them (and putting on the static grass)

HIGHS AND LOWS: High are finally finishing the whole 20 and starting to see this army taking shape, the low was having to repaint all the old state troops from last christmas (and i had to repaint quite a bit)

POINTS: 20 Swordmen with full command (145) Empire BSB (83) = 228 points
10 Handgunners with hochland rifle (105) Warrior Priest (98) = 203 points

Total = 431 points

Whole Army...

01-09-2007, 17:51

UNIT: 5 Warriors with Full Command and an Organ Gun.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight from the box of really old dwarf models.

PAINTING: Again, fairly straight forward and simple. I'm sticking with the primarily 2 color look of red/grey so far and its working thus far. Reds have gotten a lot easier to paint over black thanks to mercherite red, they also look better than my old stuff.

BASING: Sanded prior to spray base coat, wet brushed with adeptus battlegrey, drybrushed with codex grey and a touch of static grass.

STILL TO DO: I'm thinking about adding a unit base for the organ gun, but not sure what to make it out of. That'll probably get left until all my artillery is done and then they'll all get the same type of base. The unit of warriors still has another 18 dwarves to be added, unit base needs painting and then shields for them all. But that might be next months work.

HIGHS: Painting the organ gun crew. I'm not sure why, but it was a blast to get them painted after all years of metallic-mold-line goodness.

LOWS: Losing/misplacing the 20 shields for my warriors. They'll turn up, but it robbed me of my batch painting impetus.

POINTS: 5 Dwarf Warriors w/ full command (70 pts)
1 Organ Gun (120 pts)
This Month: 190 pts

Army: 399 pts

The Army:

01-09-2007, 18:10
Lahmian Vampire Counts:

UNIT: 13 Grave Guard with Full Command

BACKGROUND/THEME: Sticking with the Lahmian VC "Army of Exile" I took an unaltered unit of TK Tomb Guard to represent my Grave Guard. Not too much of a stretch there.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Standard Tomb Guard models.

PAINTING: Same purplish bone and red scheme as the last batch of skeletons. There was a lot more detail work to do on these though, so the cloth ended up being red with studs and details picked out in a mix of golds and silvers. Lots of chesnut ink to get the rusty/aged look to the weapons and armor and to smooth out some mistakes.

BASING: Sanded prior to spray base coat, painted scorched brown, wet brushed with graveyard earth, drybrushed with bleached bone and a touch of static grass.

STILL TO DO: The unit needs to be a bit bigger, so I'll probably add another box of 10 as part of another months work. They also need their shields done, but last time I saw them they were with the dwarf ones... I'm also considering adding some scroll-work to the banner to liven it up a tad, though I may reconsider after the rest of the unit gets added.

HIGHS: Getting brand new brushes to finish off the unit.

LOWS: Getting slowed down by several bad brushes.

POINTS: 13 Grave Guard w/ Full Command
This Month: 186 pts

Army: 371 pts

The Army:

Next Month: I've been a little on the short side so far, so I think I'll paint up the 2 necromancers I have for my next update. It'll also give me some time to batch paint dwarves and get distracted by the gribbly new chaos stuff.

01-09-2007, 18:17
Painter: jme (Jamie)

UNIT: 10 R Crossbowmen and 1 Bolt Thrower

BACKGROUND/THEME: Sundering Dark Elves (working on the background story)

BUILD/CONVERSION: Again High elf models with Chaos helmet.

PAINTING: Very simple, black, white and warlock purple.

STILL TO DO: Going to make movemwnt bases for crossbowmen and spearmen.

This Month
Crossbowmen - 110pts
Bolt Thrower - 100pts

Total so far: 395pts

Next month: Not sure yet! Maybe some dark rider or Cold one knights.

Bolt Thrower.

This months painting.

Army so far.

@Netguru; those Empire are absolutley beautiful :D

@TheDarkArg's TK: Lovely scheme beautifully painted; nothing more to say really, except where are the shields? ;)

01-09-2007, 23:05
Warlord Shizknits Horde

UNIT: 30 clanrats with full command

BACKGROUND/THEME: Lots and lots of rats....

BUILD/CONVERSION: Built from the clanrat parts, and left over parts from the night runner boxes used to make last months entry (I have plenty of left overs)

PAINTING: Undercoated black, then drybrushed fure scorched brown, green is Dark Angels, and the armour was given a "rust" effect by basecoating with boltgun metal, then washed with flesh wash, then drybrushed with boltgun again.

BASING; Food color and sawdust, thats all i have to say

STILL TO DO: Nothing (and i fixed up last months unfinished dudes as well)

HIGHS: The unity i achieved through a couple of colors, and the detail i was able to achive with the 30 guys
LOWS: Tails...i hate gluing them, and i hate painting them.

POINTS: Only a meer 175 points for 30 rats with full command, shield and light armour. Not bad at all. This brings me to a total of 421 points.

Apologies for the poor pics

And the army so far (and a WIP building ;))

After looking over the thread again thought I would comment on everyones work as I didn't last month (very rude on my part)!

Dwarves are looking good, liking the hammer theme.
Deamons are very cool, Ive seen some very boring khorne armies, just red, but the bases you've done as really brought them to life.
Dark elves. Not a huge fan of the old models, but great painting, you really have captured the character of the army.
Undead. Love the army and will be nicking the base filler idea!
Looking forward to seeing the high elves.
Great work on the empire, very eye catching colour scheme. Not to sure on the blue bases tho. Love the feathers!
Im liking these, can see them stalking through a forest hunting beastmen! Never liked the noble figure your using, but your colour shheme makes him look good.
@Zark the Damned
Great stuff, look like my own ogres with normal flesh, not grey! Looking forward to seeing more of these!
WOW! One of the best empire armies I ever seen!
Dwarves always look best in red! Love the warhammer quest dwarf!
Undead. More red, I see a pattern! These look amazing, really looking forward to seeing more.
Great looking skaven, painted my own skaven with green. Bases look very cool. Looking forward to seeing the horde grow.

Overall, some great work people and lots of ideas Im going to steal! Lets keep them coming!

Couldn't get what I wanted to finished this month, and it was only 1 model. Hopefully September goes better.

As such, I am forced to do this:

UNIT: 1 Goblin warboss, 1 Night goblin BSB

BACKGROUND/THEME: Just like of the rest from my army the models will fit into the desert theme of my army.
BUILD/CONVERSION: The warboss has a 6ed dwarf body, a head from a 6ed night goblin unit champion and a club from a ogre. The bsb has the upperbody from a militia and the banner was painted on drawing paper( don't know the correct english word.

PAINTING: The bsb his skin was painted very dark, the warboss his skin was painted very bright, the robe from the bsb was painted from bestial brown and then highlighted till I had bleached bone
BASING; Gw sand, painted bestial brown, then drybrushed bubonic brown and then drybrushed bleached bone.

STILL TO DO: Nothing they are done .

HIGHS AND LOWS: A change from rank and file goblins;)

POINTS: Goblin warboss, Armour of Gork, Martog's best basha, amulet of protectyness 155pts
Night goblin bsb, light armour, rowdy's banner 107pts

The two characters:)

And the bsb leading a unit into battle

So the total point are 455pts

I will post asap the army so far, I just need to borrow a camera from a friend since my own is still with a friend, otherwise I use my cellphone.

@ Netguru - gorgeous gorgeous Empire, this army is definately going to be one of the best painted when its finished, very very skillful.

@ TheDarkArg - nice effort on both the Dwarfs and the Tomb Kings

@ jme - nice army, I had a similar idea (sundering army) with my HE but in the end they ended up on ebay! Nice colour scheme & coming on very well

@ Knighta - good effort on gettin all your models done, horde armies are hard work to get painted. I like the green on them, are you thinking of leaning towards a clan pestilence theme at all?

@ Khrangar - no wonder you didn't get your prince finished, you spent your time painting this instead!! Very cool joker but not quite what we were expecting!

@ Ghazak - cool goblins, very brave to go with a colour that isn't black for the cloaks as takes so much longer. Very very nice freehand on that banner too

On my own work - I've managed to pull the skin back from the brink of disaster & think it looks pretty good now though it still need a final highlight. By the end of the day I should be able to post pictures of it pretty much finished & based (although I will still have to do a few things to it).

Lizardmen! This month: Skink Priest (lvl 2) and Salamander Hunting Pack = 165 points; Army total = 384

Background, and Basing are both the same as last month.

Painting the salamander: Started with solar macharius orange, and gave varius highlights untill the skin was cream-ish. I then gave the model a wash of watered down black and red ink (together); skin done.
The scales and spines were chaos black, scorched brown, dark flesh, mechrite red, blazing orange.
I still need to touch up his face and paint his claws.

Painting the Priest: Skin and Scales same as last time. The small icon under his weapon was painted to look like jade, although that didn't work. I gave him a different coloured kneck frill (?) because he's magic :D

Highs: Getting the bloody salamander finished!

Lows: Getting scorched brown all over the priests right leg (left leg to you), and having to paint this again, but it didn't turn out too badly.

Next month: Probably would be usefull to get some of the actuall infantry done...

02-09-2007, 20:30
I got a dilemma. paint the new house or paint the models. Sorry guys but here's a joker for ya 'cos I am much more afraid of the wife.

EDIT: yet again I seem unable to put a picture in my test. only links. Better luck next time eh?

02-09-2007, 21:21
Well having to much with the school start and stuff this month, alot of fixing on my dwarfs for upcoming Tournament also so this month...

02-09-2007, 22:33
my months painting, and whole army so far (joker for month one)..
crossbows 40 points
wizard 150 points

army total 190 points

Highs/Lows: Trying to fit time in and entering two weeks into month 2.

Still to Do: Nothing now. though since the pictures i have finished their skin, black inked/highlighted the feathers, and finished the wizards head garment thing.

Next: unsure, probably a warrior priest and some spearmen, or maybe knights...

I need comments on my ToFP army list in my sig so i know what i should be building and what i shouldn't bother with for the upcoming year. :)

@TheDarkArg: great job on the Grave Guard! i love your palette.
@jme: awesome concept! i am soo fond of your army! i gotta see more! :p

Talabecland Empire

UNITS: A Crossbowmen detachment of 9 and an Empire Captain.

BACKGROUND/THEME: Not quite finished, but the army will be build around an eccentric Noble (not this Captain) riding around the Great Forest recruiting state troops from local villages during the chaos caused by the absence of the Count (he is missing since SoC). The Noble has the support of a small brother order of the Knights Panther.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Militia Crossbowmen with some 6th edition State Troop parts (mainly heads and the leader). The Captain was built from a Mordheim Ostlander with a head swap. I'm not sure if I'm entirely happy with him and he may change in the future.

PAINTING: I went for a dirty and muddy look. Wanted them to look like they've been marching through the forest for quite some time. Yellow is Graveyard Earth to Sunburst Yellow with Skull White. Red is just Blood Red and Chaos Black to Blood Red and Dwarf Flesh. Lots of inking, possibly too much but I think it looks Ok. I'm getting some Tamiya Clear Red for my future blood.

BASING: Fine sand painted Scorched Brown and drybrushed with Graveyard Earth and finally Skull White. GW Scorched Grass and some small yellow Leafs added for a foresty look.

STILL TO DO: Some small parts on the Captain as well as a sword and cap on the Crossbowmen.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Not jokering this month! I'm really glad I finally chose an army and I'm quite confident that I'll finish this project.

9 Crossbowmen = 71
Captain with Great Hammer, Pistol, Icon of Magnus and Armour of Meteoric Iron =111

I'll have to go over the limit with a few points next month!

@ Harry -Love that demon, never really liked the model, but your job + base has changed my mind
Spirit hosts are great, and i'll be using that unit filler in my next unit...Stay tuned
@ Dino -Those empire look great, your army looks unified with the blue, and the banners give that extra touch
@ Arhalien -Man that would have been hard to paint... looks great though
@ Zark -Those are some big guns...carried by bigger dudes. Great work :)
@ Catferret -Pictures damn you, pictures. lol, i had the same problem the first month with the camera, cant wait to see your work
@ NetGuru -Oh my sweet Jesus, they look spectacular!
@ TheDarkArg -looking good so far, how old are those dwarf models?
The tomb kings look good, puple bones are a bit weird but they are growing on me, looking at the entire army
@ jme -Those high/dark elves look snazzy as, love what you've done with them
@ Khrangar -lol bretonian joker!!!! love it :D
@ Gazhkull -Thats a bloody big banner... but it looks spectacular so alls good
@ Dead orc -I love the heart thats in the preist hand, and the model in general
@ ^Changer^ -Love the paintjob

@ Knighta - good effort on gettin all your models done, horde armies are hard work to get painted. I like the green on them, are you thinking of leaning towards a clan pestilence theme at all?

Nope, will explain next month :)

Hespithe's Khornate Bloodbull Army

Khaarg the Immaculate - General, Doombull
3x 8 Chaos Hounds (Spiders)

Imagine an Ogre Kingdoms Tribe that has forsworn its fealty and devotion to The Maw in favor of a deity that promises more satisfaction on all levels than The Maw has ever provided. The Tribe has gone over to Khorne, and as is the norm for Chaos in all of its malevolent forms, such malevolent forms appear within the bodies of its worshipers, the Doombull more than most. Such mutation and fanaticism would boost the abilities of the typical Ogre substantially. The army uses the Beastmen rules set.

Khaarg is based off of the Ogre Tyrant metal body, and keeps the weapon options found within that kit. The shield and gut-plate are scavenged from the 40K Chaos Defiler sprues. The flaming mane and hooves (and leg warmers) are greenstuff. It took quite a bit of cutting, griping, and bleeding before I was finally satisfied (convinced it wasn't gonna get any better) with the model.

The Spiders were a trip. I was initially looking for a few BfSP boxed set spiders but was unable to find enough. A friend tipped me off to a local party supply store that had bags of spiders that should be about the right size. Best tip yet.

I'm hoping that all of the models will satisfactorily fit the Chaos Ogre theme. Skin tones will be Khornate Red, and most other colors will be darker to emphasize the flesh tones.

Fairly typical, in order to match the gaming terrain we use most often. Sand, painted in earthy browns, and then flocked is pretty much the norm.

Doombull and Spiders (hounds) are done. Next, Exalted Daemon and Bloodbulls.

The build was a trip, the painting much harder. Applying the paint is not a problem, but I do have trouble deciding upon which colors to use.

Doombull - General, Hellfire 'Mace', Heavy Armor, Shield - 304pts
3x 8 Spiders - 144pts

Total: 448pts thus far...

UNIT: 10 Handgunners and a Warrior Priest.

BACKGROUND/THEME: Addittion to my Ostland Empire Army.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out the box, apart from the old dwarf handgunner mixed in with the detachment.

PAINTING: Nothing fancy.

BASING: As with other Ostlanders.

STILL TO DO: Since the picture was taken this morning I have finished the Hangunners bases and minor details..

HIGHS AND LOWS: Didn't really enjoy painting any of this lot with exception of the dwarf.

POINTS: 178 points (I was 29 points in the black from last month!)

My Ostland Army so far.

UNIT: 10 Chaos Hounds and a Wargor BSB with the Beast Banner.

BACKGROUND/THEME: Vanilla BoC Army, nothing fancy - no frills, led by an angry Doombull.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out the box, most involved element was basing them.

PAINTING: Nice Dark brooding Beasty colours!

BASING: Rotten branches, ferns and dead leaves, woodland.

STILL TO DO: May add some more ferns to the bases at some point and highlight the dead branches etc. some more, also will go back and gloss the hounds tongues and eyes etc.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Loved painting these, and after last months indecision on my actual list it was a great bonus to actually get started on them, I'm now full of enthusiasm for these guys! BoC FTW!!!

My BoC Army so far (not huge thanks to me Jokering last month!)

04-09-2007, 16:13
UNIT: 3 Stone Trolls and a Night Goblin Big Boss with Shield.

BACKGROUND/THEME: Skarsniks Night Gobbo Horde.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Plain and simple (hell I need all the spare GS and converting time I can get with my Nurgle Army so cut me some slack!).

PAINTING: Nice Blues for the Stone Trolls to make them stand out from a mainly black and green Night Gobbo Horde.

BASING: Scratch build GS mushrooms!!!.

STILL TO DO: Nothing, these guys are done!.

HIGHS AND LOWS: The Stone Trolls are still one of my favourite minis in the O&G range (in fact in most of the WFB stuff too!) and it was a pleasure to paint them, now I am left with a decision, should I change my list and add more of these bad boys!?

Skarsniks NG Army so far

04-09-2007, 16:19
UNIT: One very large FW GUO.

BACKGROUND/THEME: General of my Nurgle Army.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Easy to put together, and a fantastic sculpt. He is attached to his scenic base with a 3 inch wood screw!!!

PAINTING: Loads to do on this guy, the next month will see loads of washes and glazes to get that decaying puss ridden look we all love.

BASING: A movement tray which will make a nice scenic style swamp base for mr GUO, all my Nurgle army will be based in the same way, LOADS of GSing!

STILL TO DO: One more month left to get this guy done, I don't even feel like I have started him yet he is so big!!!

HIGHS AND LOWS: A great model and a joy to just sit and look at, even when I know I should be painting him!

POINTS: 600!!!!!

Don't forget this fella is VERY WIP!

04-09-2007, 16:20
Here is a WIP shot of the early GS work on my Doombull, still loads to do, I'm just feeling out the rough shapes at the minute.

dave3555 Dwarfs - By stone and steel.

Dwarf cannon.

Clan redbeards miners.

Nothing special. Straight out of the box stock cannon + crew models

I wanted my dwarfs to look like dwarfs from a mining clan. So for that reason I intend to keep them in natural looking colours and tones. Lots of leather -
hides the dirt from working in the mines all day! Also for the metal work I wanted to use bronze and iron due to its practicality for the dwarfs to have made
their tools, armour etc out of. Many dwarf army's are painted using golds - but in reality gold is by far too soft a metal to be used for such items.

Nothing special with the paint job, though it did seem to take a while. There's lots of little interesting details on the model that just seem to eat away at

painting time!

Gritty sand. Painted (wetbrushed) with scorched brown. Highlighted with bestial brown, snakebite leather, snakebite and bleached bone mix and final
highlights of bleached bone

Nothing this model is finished. I may add a display base and some of the cannon 'extras' from the sprue at some point.

I have really enjoyed painting this model. It's a long time since I have painted a cannon model and this one was a very satisfying model to paint.

Cannon. Rune of forging, rune of fortune, Rune of reloading, Engineer with handgun.

Group shot:

Hope you like them and comments are most welcome. Hope the pics are o.k too!

UNIT: The Blood Moon Arrerz n' the Red Moon Gnashers (20 Archers, 4 Squig Teams).

BACKGROUND/THEME: More of the Blood Moon Clan currently in service to Grodd Blackfang.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Re-based the two man Prodder teams onto two 20mm bases and replaced the great weapon on a Skull Pass Big Boss with an Orc Spear (all my Herders will have Prodders!).

PAINTING: Archers painted the same as the Spearmen, squigs are malachite red with a red Ink wash.

BASING: Same as the Spearmen. Goblin Green Base covered in sand with a Dark green wash

STILL TO DO: Redo that Green Stuff on the Big Boss, Varnishing.

HIGHS AND LOWS: The Squig Unit contains some of the very first Warhammer models I bought 12-14 years ago and some of the most recent. It also features some donations from friends so seeing them all united for use was quiet a nice feeling.

The Gnashers.

Close up on Arrez Command Group.

Well Done to everyone. I'll get better at taking Pic's for next time.

04-09-2007, 19:22
@ Dave3555 those dwarfs are absolutely first class, such a clean crisp style of painting you have there too, I love it mate, well done.

@ Ad-Hoc, loving those old skool Squigs. In fact it is great, and a little surprising, to see how many old skool minis are making the TOFP. Great stuff keep up the good work mate.

04-09-2007, 19:40
Word up hommies.

Well im not playing a joker just yet but I know my luck - I dont post and the thread will get shut, so consider this my place holder posting :D Hopefully I should be updating within the next 24 hours if not, hit me with a joker

04-09-2007, 21:17
Sorry everyone life has been a bit hectic over the last 48 hours did not mean to abandon you.

Lovely crisp smooth painting on those ogres again and I love the dark moody feeling the gnobvlars have makes them seem more sinister.

Again beautifully smooth painting. Those new empire minis are not that easy to keep that clean and crisp with all the stuff they have modelled on to them.

The red is very nicely done on the Dwarfs But can I suggets more variation in beard colour. (the odd black or blonde to break up the brown looks really good). Now I really like the red on the tomb kings. They are shaping up to be a great looking army.

Those are goingto look great. Tight themes often work best. Did you buy one of those heads for every single man in the army?

Nice greens on the skaven. Its a colour that always seems to work well with them. I am less convinced about the bases. Are they finished?

@Warlord Ghazak.
Wonderful handpainted banner. I am always impressed by anyone who even has a go at this sort of thing. The little check pattern especially is beautifully done. He really looks good front and center of the unit.
Know what would look cool? Puting those same checks around the hood of the Warlord so the BSB was clearly carrying HIS banner.

@Dead orc
That salamander worked out really well in the end. I think the whole orange thing is really working out (suprisingly :D)well.

Better late than never. :D Nice start. Good neat painting on those crossbows. Look forward to seeing the finished picies.

That is the oddest shaped unit/movement tray I have seen but I have to say I really like it and the unit. There is something about the way you have painted them that makes them look very realistic.

Love the spiders. Nuff said. I did a unit of spiders similar to these. I love things like this. My Tomb Kings are full of plastic toys. PM sent.

More of the same sh1te. :D
(I'll go make some sensible comments on your Plog)

Beautiful painting again. Soooo crisp, Sooo clean.

@Adhoc. They do make a great looking unit all mixed in together. You can't beat finally getting something on the table you have been collecting/looking at unpainted for a long time.

Wonderful stuff everybody. Thank you all for sticking with it. We seem to be sorting the men from the boys. :D Keep at it.

04-09-2007, 22:04
Excellent work on the ogre's, really liking all the flesh ogres.
@Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull
Great work, refreshing to see night goblin that are not goths!
@Dead orc
So well painted, again refreshing to see orange on something other than a dwarfs head
Very promising start, would like to see the finished product.
Love the dirty look, and love the captain. Is he a conversion?
Great theme and great idea with the spiders!
Very striking looking Empire, love the dwarf!
Chaos is looking amazing, how did you do the bases? What did you use on them?
Very cool looking gobbo army, love the seemless blending on the trolls.
The GUO is one of my fav models of all time, and the work you've done so far is amazing, can't wait to see him finished!
Beautiful, simply beautiful!
So many teeth! Lol, looking good and well done getting all those gobbos done!
I should hopfully have enough for the whole army, as its a secret cult everyone will be hiding their faces.

Thanks to everyone who has commented on my work

05-09-2007, 03:54
POINTS: Goblin warboss, Armour of Gork, Martog's best basha, amulet of protectyness 155pts
Night goblin bsb, light armour, rowdy's banner 107pts

The two characters:)

Ghaz, you are aware that the Best Basha is an axe, right? :)

05-09-2007, 08:25

UNIT: A Giant

BACKGROUND/THEME: None as yet. Going to be led by Skarsnik so may come up with some sort of them about him leading his army out to war or something.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box although I did convert the cage to have a goblin in (but thats not finished yet so not in the picture!)

PAINTING: Big shout out to Armos here for helping me out with the skin. Basically lots of layers built up from scorched brown through dark flesh, dawrf flesh and then bronzed flesh. Trousers are just various colours though I think I'm going to make some of the patches look like banners from various armies.

BASING: Umm, so I kinda haven't done the base yet but it's already a scenic base so pretty easy to do

STILL TO DO: Still have to do some final highlights on the skin, finish his trousers, do the base and paint the tattoos (the stencils of which have already been done). Sounds like a lot but shouldn't take me too long & I hope to have it finished in the next day or two. Didn't want to play a joker so though I'd get pictures up as he's pretty much finished.

HIGHS AND LOWS: Lots of lows this month unfortunately. I was really excited when I got the model because I've wanted one ever since they came out but I've had a very stressful month with so much uni work to do. Then when I did start painting it the skin looked really really bad at one point so I got quite disheartened as I thought I'd messed it up. Highs though - managed to sort the skin out & am now quite pleased with it, uni work is all done so I can just have fun painting now without feeling guilty & getting the tattoos stenciled on ready to paint (though that wasn't done by me!)

POINTS: 205 points for total army cost of 400 exactly.

Know I haven't taken a complete army shot yet but that was because I didn't want to have to take that massive unit of golbins out of my case! Will take an army shot when the giant is 100% complete.

05-09-2007, 08:30
And some comments...

DeadOrc - Nice looking LM, like the orange scheme.

Erazmuns - Might not be letting you post pictures because they're too big? D/L Picasa from google, its a free programme that lets you resize pictures.

Danny - nice looking Empire, try posting smaller pics though as its hard to see them as you have to scroll round them so much.

Changer - nice looking Empire also, good to see you've settled on an army!

Hastings - nice Empire (i'm getting deja vu!). Also nice work on the beasts. The GUO is coming along very nicely & I'm looking forward to seeing it finished next month. It's an awesome model & it's coming along very nicely. Really like you NG stuff, the trolls look really nice. Haven't you changed the bases though?

Dave - absolutely awesome Dwarfs again this month.

05-09-2007, 08:36
I am flabbergasted at how high the quality of everyone's work is. It's truly amaznig, especially considering you're putting yourself on a tight schedule! Keep up everyone, you are all very inspiring to many people here!

im back from holiday and i'll post pics of month 2's stuff tonight (if it's not too late).

05-09-2007, 09:52
....Chaos is looking amazing, how did you do the bases? What did you use on them?

Thanks alot Jme. The bases are simple, they were undercoated black, drybrushed Scorched Brown, then a tiny bit of Bestial Brown Highlighting. Dead fall (i.e. small sticks) were added to the base and coloured the same way as the base, but taken a step further with Highlighting (I will in time take them a bit further), brass etch ferns were added to the bases, painted Dark Angels green with Goblin Green ends. The the Leaf Litter (from Antenociti's Workshop - although I think they are just birch seeds) was added to the base using PVA glue. When completely dry these were given washes of green, brown, and black. Then sealed in place with Dullcote (make sure they are 100% dry first or you'll end up with a white mess).

05-09-2007, 10:43
lovely work allround this month (netgurus empire i particulary like due to the bravery of the colour scheme)

UNIT: Sorcerer and 5 hounds

BACKGROUND/THEME: I still havent figured out an army theme as a whole but ive decided that the sorcerer was once a cult leader within the empire who suffered a particulary nasty miscast while in a crowded area binding the other vitcims to him physically/spiritually (explains the faces on the back and the staff). As a result he has become paraniod to the extent that he rarelay casts a spell (reflects my fear of miscasts in game).

BUILD/CONVERSION: Another bog standard box job for me this month.

PAINTING: The hard job was tying in the units with the warriors (who were painted to resitrict the colour pallete). deciding that pink was not the best option for hounds i chose to go for a brown skin tone and link them visually with the warriors shoulder fur. The sorcerer on the other hand is only linked by the use of purple on the inner robe. The sorcered went through many changes while painting him, mostly with the skin and the gold edging. Also i went overboard trying to get the sorcerers book to look decent, inking it to hell and highlighting. unfortunatly that doesnt show very well in pics.

BASING: sand+black spray+black ink+grey light brush (drybrushing rips off sand) and a bestail brown trim. They would have static grass blobs but ive lost the tub of pva and im out of time

STILL TO DO: few dots of static grass on the hounds bases.

HIGHS AND LOWS: The srocered was a fun model to paint and was a joy the whole way through (even if i had to redo the robes over 7 times due to drybrush dust.
The hounds i lost interest in after doing 1 and had to really kick myself to finish. Mainly because of the insane ammount of bone

Sorcered of chaos with level 2 upgrade, mark of slaanesh and dispel scroll - 165
5hounds - 30
Total - 195
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/6043/sorcererfrontvi8.png http://img487.imageshack.us/img487/7530/sorcbackct1.jpg

A front image of the sorcerer has been put in my log, i didnt think it would be fair to put such a large pic here.

Ive got to say i really underestimated how motivational the WIP thread is. I was unable to log on warseer for a peek for 3 weeks and my painting almost halted (which is why this is so late).

UNIT: Dwarven Cannon with Rune of Forging

BACKGROUND/THEME: A clan based around the northern most hall of Karak Karaz. That's pretty much it. ;)

PAINTING: A basic job - The beards are drybrushed various shades of grey and brown, and the clothes are a mix of leathery tones and shadow grey uniform. The cannon was a great bit of fun to paint as it involved three consecutive drybrushes, followed by the gold painted on.

BASING: GW flock! Ack!

STILL TO DO: Nothing!

HIGHS AND LOWS: No real lows this month, and the cannon has been my favorite model to paint so far, other than the beard of Lord Durgun.

POINTS: 140ish.

- Huw

PS: I really am sorry about the poor picture this month. The problem with out of the box builds you painted at the beginning of the month is that, well, there isn't much to talk about! :p

05-09-2007, 20:53
Phew, so much nice stuff to comment on..

@Harry: As always, great-looking stuff, eventhough some stuff isn't finished yet. Of course I especially like the Dark Elves but also the Dwarfs and HE (especially the white on them) look great as well as all the other stuff (Undead, Scylla) you're doing.

@Arhalien: Nice to see how your WE are coming along. Eventhough I'm not commenting that often, I'm visiting your painting log every few days.

@Hastings: As every month, great painting. Seems like you're trying to become a rival for Harry in terms of loading up on simulaneous painting projects. Oh my, the GUO is even bigger than I imagined him to be! This surely is a heap of work and I'm sure you'll turn it into something memorable.

@jme: Interesting theme with a striking painting scheme. Melikes much, eventhough I'm not a fan of the plastic bolt thrower.

@Warlord Ghazak Gazhkull: As expected, this month's work turned out great. The BSB surely will be a centerpiece and a real eye-catcher in your army.

@Hespithe: Ogres turning Khorne using the Beastmen rules? A bit confusing maybe, yet a great theme and it looks like you're turning this thing into a very characterful force. Keep up the work!

@dave3555: woah, now that is some nice and clean painting, just the way I like it. Looking forward to next month's Dwarfs.

There are also more great Empire armies, Ogres, Khemri Undead and so on...it's really inspiring to see so many people actually working on their armies.

So, on to my stuff....

Dark Elf Dark Riders
Dark Elf Executioners of Har Ganeth

I still have no real theme for my army, I have to admit. There are so many great aspects about Dark Elves. The whole seafaring raiders thing, the nobility, the big monsters, the smaller beasties, the cityguards, magic, hunting parties, cult of Khaine and so on. I hope I'll be inspired to write down some fluff when painting the characters.*sigh*

Again, no conversions, just assembly, a bit of gap-filling and that's it.
Everyone who ever had to deal with DE or DE players knows about the mourning about the assembly of Executioners so I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed that pinning their blades wasn't a problem at all. The Dark Riders aren't glued to the elven steeds but have pins stuck up their arses to keep them in place.

After I was late for July's entry for the Tale of X Gamers and getting all the positive feedback, especially on the Shades, I was motivated to paint right on and I got the Dark Riders finished within one and a hald weeks or so. Working out a colour scheme was a bit tricky, especially on the robes. Highlighting Black is always a fiddly thing and I really didn't want to do this on those wonderfully-detailed robes/cloaks. Black is also not a dominant colour in my army so I decided to go for purple (of which some people say I can paint well). There's also the red and green you'll find in all of my DE miniatures and I kept the gold to a minimum.

The Executioners' scheme was less of a problem because I gave in and used much gold, just like you see it on most people's Executioners. Those guys are very close to the cult of Khaine so I wanted to have quite some red on them to reflect this fact. Quite some people didn't like it ("too bright/colourful for DE"), especially on the bottom of the miniatures, where the red clashes with the purple. I'm pretty pleased with the work although the Executioners could look way better; I kind of rushed it because on one hand, I wanted to finish them and on the other hand, they aren't that exciting to paint really. They are very cool miniatures but it's all armour. Not much cloth, none of the generic bags of which nobody knows what's in them, no faces.

Sand/Rubble, drybrushed in several layers of grey. I also used cork for a few rocks for the first time and I'm very pleased with the results.
As last month, the bases are not really finished. I'll add snow some time in the future.

I have to admit that the Crossbows on the Dark Riders aren't fully finished yet, but it's just a few metallic parts which isn't too much work.

The big high must have been the first two weeks in which I finished the Dark Riders. Then, birthday stuff and DotA took up much time of mine and the motivation faded a bit (my limited enthusiasm about the battlefield performance of Executioners might also have been a reason). To my defense in the case of me being a lazy squirrel, I have to mention that I'm also still working on the Nurgle guy comission.;)

5 Dark Riders with Repeating Crossbows and Musician - 127pts
10 Executioners - 110pts

--> in total: 237pts

Sorry, no picture of my whole De force so far as i'm in a hurry. I'll post it later.

So seeya next month guys! Happy painting!

@Hastings: As every month, great painting. Seems like you're trying to become a rival for Harry in terms of loading up on simulaneous painting projects. Oh my, the GUO is even bigger than I imagined him to be! This surely is a heap of work and I'm sure you'll turn it into something memorable.

LOL, you guys really have no idea how many projects me and Harry are working on, I myself at the minute have 32!!! (including the 4 TOFP armies, W40k DKoK, W40k DA, W40k CSM, OK, Brets, VC Mousillon, Zombie Pirates, Savage orcs, Lustrian Marauders, BB LM, BB Dwarfs, BB VC, BB Necromancers, BB Halflings, BB LM Arena, DKoK 4ft x 8ft board, WHQ update, Hordes Trollbloods, Hordes Circle, WGOE Sebeki, WGOE Typhon, WGOE Table, Hell Dorado Sarecens, Spacehulk Update, the Altdorf Zoo display, Unreleased/Limited Ed minis, Numerous GD entries...... etc, etc,)

Thanks for your kind words, hope you enjoy my next update, it's the one after that (October) that I am looking forward too most ;)

I am comitted (or at least should be ;) ) to getting my TOFP armies all completed within the 12 months.

06-09-2007, 01:42
Things are looking quite splendid all around, excellent work everyone!

I, on the other hand, have been slacking. And very busy. Work sucks. So:

Better luck next month, I hope.

06-09-2007, 04:36
There was no need to book a place this thread will not be closing nor is there any (real) deadline as such. just get it done when you can. If you post as normal rather than edit the post above or there is a good chance we will miss it when you do.

never thought I would see skin as smooth as that on armos's giant...but there you go. You are clearly a good student. You have done a great job on the skin and those tatooes are going to look amazing.

Thanks for dropping by with those words of encouragement. What a nice chap you are.

@the eater of pie.
its never too late for pics.

Wonderful smooth heat painting. The bold style in which you paint is really very striking. Love the sorcerer.
Any chance of the army so far shot?

@Huw Dawson
Nice job. Nothing wrong with 'out of the box builds. everything does not have to have Greenstuff plastered all over it to be a nice mini. Any plans for a scenic base for the cannon?

Wonderful painting again. Lovely, rich golds. (and nice purple. :D)

06-09-2007, 06:06
Nice greens on the skaven. Its a colour that always seems to work well with them. I am less convinced about the bases. Are they finished?

Thanks for the comment. The bases look better in real life, and ive added bestial brown to the sides of them that further ties the unit together. I'll get pics up when i can

Good work everyone

06-09-2007, 06:14
Ahhhhh so this is going to be the work in progress log for this month now as well as the product of last months?

Fair does, will do, ive just been mad busy with work - settling in to the routine and all that..

Hello everyone!

My first time posting in the summary thread. I'm afraid my life has been all over the place recently, in the midst of moving and BT just can't quite manage to connect our phone line so I still don't have the internet, combined with spending alot of time looking of jobs hasn't left me with much time for posting on Warseer, although I have found time to do some painting.

I've been busy so I haven't quite made the 400pts total but aim to catch up with it, as my life gets back to normal, from the 345pt total at the moment. Unfortunately I don't have a whole regiment shot of the first Night Gobbo regiment (I forgot to take one!) nor do I have a progress so far shot, but they will be forthcoming soon!

Here's what I have done:

A taster of the Gobbo regiment with the standard bearer from that unit. Still needs some rust patches added to the chainmail with some washes.
All my standard bearers will be like this without banners and just accumulations of Dwarven stuff, excepting the actual Battle Standard Bearer who will have some of a banner.

Next up the two fanatics from that same regiment.
Just some minor conversions here to change the angles the heads face to make the a bit more dynamic, altered their demolition balls a bit and pinned them down so as not to have the fronds of sculpted grass under their feet with these cobbled bases!

Then there is my shaman or with his full title Uglence "Great Sage and Tunneller of the Waaagh Magik". These pictures showed me how terribly painted his eyes are which I will work back in to and the fireball he's about to cast looked alot like a pom-pom before I painted, now it just looks a bit more like a yellow and red pom-pom!
His pose is meant to be him hurling himself upwards with his powers to get a good shot with the fireball which is also handy to just give him some height over the other Night Goblins to stand out a bit more. I'm afraid I forgot to take any photos of these guys before painting to show the sculpting work. I quite like how his staff turned out though.

And last (and also probably least) is the one snotling base I posted ages ago. I still haven't managed to paint another one.

What's on the cards next month is to work on one of the spear chukkas as well as make some of the spear and shield armed wolf riders. There will be alot of fun sculpting to make them look suitably roughly armoured.

Thanks for looking, and although I don't have the time to look through everyone else's (as I'm in a pub on their free WiFi and can't afford any more drinks) I promise to be much more prompt and supportive come next month I'm sure!

EDIT:: I'm not sure why the picture of the Shaman isn't being displayed but it seems fine in my project log so feel free to check it out here (http://www.warseer.com/forums/fantasy-project-logs/89594-dicky-does-night-goblins-post1883584.html#post1883584).

06-09-2007, 09:42
@ Harry, thank you :D The skin was looking really bad at one point so glad I've managed to pull it off & to have it compared to Armos is a great complement as his giant is awesome.

@ Rich, really like those goblins, a brave decision to go with lightly coloured cloaks. All your stuff is very nicely painted & I really like that Shaman, I don't think it looks like he's holding a pom pom at all, too late now by only thing you could've done is have the fireball cone shaped coming out of his hand.

06-09-2007, 12:52
Took me a while to realise we posted feedback in this thread too... Was hunting for the other thread for ages...

Excellent work so far everybody. There are lots of really nice looking armies building up! Even if half of them are Harry's...

As for my September offering, I will be painting my Ogre Tyrant for Golden Demon so I can get in early. I have 2 weeks to get it painted. At least it counts for a month and a half of this Tale of Painters! Gives me a chance to concentrate on it for a while. The GS work on him is finally finished. I shall post some pics a little later showing the model pre-undercoat.

EDIT: Pics! Woo! Had to remove all the precious smilies though. *sniff*

06-09-2007, 13:28
@Catferret: WOW, this thing is gonna be really nice when it's finished. Can't wait to see it finished.

@Sigur: As always you do an amazing job on youre dark elves.

@dave3555: Great dwarfs, but night I suggest different shades of red hair for youre dwarfs beards.

@Ad-Hoc: Nice to see you are able to get all youre mini's painted in a month expecially sences you have so many to paint.

@Jonahmaul: The giant is really nice so far man. Can't wait to see it finished.

@Huw_Dawson: They look very nice.

@Horus0001: I love the sorccerer. Can't wait to see what else you got.

@Rich 123: Nice work on youre Night Goblins Shaman. The levetation is a nice touch.

06-09-2007, 13:41
Sorry but I am going to have to joker this month. I simply couldn't get a regiment done in time. Although I did manage two lots of stuff for the 40k side.

Next month you can count on me!

07-09-2007, 00:37
Better late than never! :D
Anyway the last few weeks have been really busy for me, and I've had a hard time finishing the skaven. (Thats what happens when you wait to paint them all...) So here we go:

UNIT: 25 Clanrats and a Ratling Gun

BACKGROUND/THEME: Nothing here yet, still thinking through clan names. Maybe something like Clan Kozyol...

BUILD/CONVERSION: No conversions here, just standard GW.

PAINTING: The clanrats are the same as last month, but the ratling gun I did a bit different. I made the skin with a vermin brown wash on vomit brown. The gun itself is simple metal, I have several different washes, but its hard to see in the picture. All of my banners will have the same skaven symbol and then another smaller one that is unique.

BASING: Nothing done here yet, planning to do a grey-ish gravel when I get the materials.

STILL TO DO: Basing.

HIGHS AND LOWS: This month I enjoyed painting the ratling gun. Its an interesting model and it was fun to paint.
On the other hand the clanrats got a bit repetitive...

25 Clanrats - Hand Weapons, shields, and full command. 150 Points
1 Ratling Gun - 60 Points
Total - 210 Points

And the entire army so far:

Next month I was planning on doing another 25 clanrats, but going off how busy these weeks have been, I'm going to have to go with something easier and do 3 Rat ogres and a rat swarm.

07-09-2007, 15:55
Better late than never! Amen!
The month started off great but dwindled off leaving me almost no painting time in the last couple of weeks.

UNIT: 2 Bolt Throwers

BACKGROUND/THEME: Still the Tower of Stars expeditionary force, however, these two bolties have been requisitioned from a citadel, hence the blue detail on their chests rather than the gold the spearelves have

BUILD/CONVERSION: No conversions here, just standard GW.

PAINTING: Basically the same methods I used on the spearelves. The bolt throwers themselves I worked up from a black basecoat so they took a couple extra coats to get a flat colour. The 'wood' colour is 6 parts bleached bone with 1 part bubonic brown added... or thereabouts anyway.

BASING: Just goblin green + flock and static grass still. Will probably look to add to these when I'm finished with the army.

STILL TO DO: I refuse to answer this question on the grounds I don't have enough space to list everything :eyebrows:

HIGHS AND LOWS: The low was definitely getting no time to paint for a couple of weeks.
The only real high I can think of is getting another 200 points done

2x Bolt throwers = 200 points

16 Spearelves FC 206
2 Bolt Throwers 200

07-09-2007, 15:56
As for the Slaanesh mortals... :'(

I've run out of jokers now... therefore I must get 200 points painted by the end of this month 8)

Hi everyone, sorry for the late posting of this months progress, but here goes:

I still haven't really came up with a theme yet for my army, but this chap is in charge of my Chaos Nurgle army.

It was a pretty straight forward build, I did a little bit of pinning and some green stuffing to fill in some gaps. The only item, I am yet to stick on is My Lords sword and shield combo, which should sit across his back, however, I got a bit annoyed with that particular item and decide I would leave it of for now.

As he is my Chaos Lord and is ment to look all diseased and disgusting. I decided to paint his mount so the skin looked rather rotten and rather unhealthy.

As for the Lord himself, I decided to try and make his armour look slightly different to my Chaos warriors to make him stand out a bit and instead of doing a streaky effect on the armour, I decided to make his armour look more older and worn. So I just painted it Boltgun metal and used a couple of different inks to give it that worn/dirty look and then highligted it with chainmail.

I gave my Lord the same sort of snow texture base as my CW to help tie the whole army in together.

I don't think there is really anything else left to do. Although I might, at some point, give his base another layer of snow flock. Apart from that though he is finished.

Probably the low point of working on my Chaos Lord came with the initial gluing and pinning together of the model. As per usual, my super glue seemed incapable of gluing metal to metal properly. But was more then capable of gluing fingers and thumbs together and various metal parts to my hands.

High point was probably painting my Lords steed and making it look all rotten and diseased.

@ Everyone, I would just like to congratulate everybody on completing another months worth of work. I look forward to seeing some more WIP's in the future and some more finished stuff.

And here is my finished Chaos Lord, sorry if the pictures are a bit crap:

07-09-2007, 18:00
Nice High Elves Kraxnar. Getting the Slaanesh done by the end of the month won't be too bad. Good luck!

I still love your Nurgley stuff Boyz, real dirty looking effect well painted.

I have started painting my Tyrant and have posted some WIP pics of him in my Project Log (http://warseer.com/forums/1888176-post600.html) if anybody is interested. I will get him done by GD. Honest...

The Super Haggis
08-09-2007, 08:20

Just thought I'd pop in to show I'm still alive and also to play a joker.:cries:

Excuse: Lack of motivation, school and family problems.

Unfortunately I may have to drop out of the TOFP as now that I'm back at school I have little time to do any work on my models and if I did, I'd probably be too tired to do anything, but I suppose we'll see!

P.S. Oh yeah and nice work everyone!

08-09-2007, 11:05
First off I'd like to thank everyone for the positive comments about the elves and I'm sorry I haven't been able to post any replies until now... it really has been a tough month.

Secondly, congrats on everyone that got stuff done this month there is some really great stuff in there!

@Sigur I noticed that you have left the gaps in the horses necks. Have you ever tried to fill those gaps?
I've tried to fill them on the horses on my chariot a while back but the horses ended up looking like they had been hung from a gallows... Anyone have any tips for this?

@Harry The Spearelf armour was simply Chainmail->Armour wash->Chainmail reapplied and this is why I am still keen to go back and give them a highlight when I get the chance.
Your High Elves are really brilliant too, especially since you mustn't have much time to dedicate to them.

For the chaos this month I have assembled, cleaned and undercoated a sorceror already and I'll slap some base colours on this guy first up to ensure I have something to post this month.

For the High Elves I'm planning on doing a mounted commander as he performed really well during my Nemesis crown battles and then fill up to 200 points with silver helms.

08-09-2007, 11:18
.Sorry for the REALLY late post, but as azyreth said, Better late than never!!
So, this month has been a busy one, what with university studying and vacation going on... So, while I had a head start, I barely managed to finish the Flame Cannon for this month's installment...

Durin's Dragonfyre Contraption. Durin Sootbeard is the master engineer of the Hold, and just so happens to have a strangely appropriate name.. This flame cannon was his first ever attempt to make such an engine. Even though it's almost 300 years old, it is fearsome to encounter on the battlefield.

The flame cannon model is very very old, dating back to 1993. As such, it is missing a few bits (some of the bits on the rear end of the warmachine..), but there is nothing I could do about it, and to my defence I think it still looks nice. (and a bit less chunky)

Quite straightforward, different types of wood for the cannon, bronze and silver details, and a carbon-look for the gun's nozzle itself. I tried to make the wood look burnt (due to the nature of the warmachine, I think it is appropriate). To tie it with the rest of the army, I painted the fuel pipe a dark green and the blowing-thingy (no idea what it's called...) a vivid red.

Basing is still the thorn in my side... I simply can't get together enough willpower in order to do it!! Still, the concept of the base will be mud, and the wheels will be sunk in it a bit, to demonstrate the weight of the warmachine!

Apart from the base, I was not happy with the way the crew turned out, so they are currently resting inside a jar full of methylated spirit, waiting for the paint to come off, so that they can be repainted...

High: Sticking to the TOFP for the second month without having to play a joker. Completing last month's "still to do", and having the gunline part of the army ready! (with the exception of 2 Bolt Throwers, the rest will be nfantry!!)
Low: The skin of the crew was a total disaster! Given the fact that i'm planning on painting a few slayers over the next months, it could prove to be a difficult task for my painting skills.

Flame Cannon:

The rest of the army, as it stands right now:

The photos are old, but not much was done since the last shot.. Will post an update with the painted crew soon enough (i hope)

Congratulations for the extraordinary quality (and quantity) of your work, everyone!!

@Hastings: ADD MORE TROLLS!! they are great, and you could easily field 2 units of 3 stone trolls or 4 plain trolls in a 2000pt game (and they are the reason troll-slayers exist, if I may add :D)

08-09-2007, 16:04
Just checking in to say I'm still alive, will be posting my month's painting next week when I return home (why must work always send me away near the beginning of the month?).

Sorry about the delay, although judging by the great quallity of some of the posts, my meagre contribution won't be missed much. ;)

09-09-2007, 07:44
Well I should have my pics up tomorrow after school, took pics today but of the 22 I took there was not a single good one in the bunch:mad:. Nevertheless it's a nice feeling to know this month's set of guys is more than I've painted in the past two years (or thereabouts):D

09-09-2007, 13:32
@Kraxnar: Nice elves.

@The_boyz: Very nice chaos lord.

@happy_doctoer: I really like youre dwarfs, expecially the color scheme.

I have three bits of good news and one bit of bad news. I'll start with the bad, i won't be painting my lore of beasts wizard this month. Now for the good news, first yesturday was my birthday(now i'm twenty) and I now have enough cash to go and finish buying what I need for my knights of the white wich I shall paint for next month. For this month I will be painting five outriders(about 129 points) so that next month the knights of the white wolf can be painted(which is 270 points) and so in November i'll paint teh Lore of beasts wizard. And also I have a nice suprise waiting to be shown as soon as I post up pics. of the Outriders.

09-09-2007, 15:07
Just wanted to say that everything is looking really good!

Sorry to say that I am going to have to withdraw from the TOFP because of various reasons outside my control. :( I hope to continue to update my painting log.

09-09-2007, 16:21
Really good work from everyone so far, but regretably, I two must play a joker :(

10-09-2007, 07:56
Well after several more poor attempts at taking photos I've managed to find a handful of decent ones, still not great but they will have to do. On that note I present this months entry for TOFP, my unit of 25 DE spearmen.

UNIT: 25 Spearmen, my list only has 24 but I figured I'd fill up all the ranks for in case I dont put my character in this unit

BACKGROUND/THEME: Still undecided

BUILD/CONVERSION: All stock models except the champion. He's got a head from the Eldar Guardian box and a blade swap with one of my Beastmaster's from last month

PAINTING: The armour was painted boltgun and then inked with Black ink. The purple was a basecoat of liche purple and a highlight of liche purple and white. The skin was Tallarn Flesh base coat, Elf flesh highlight, elf flesh/bleached bone highlight

BASING: Same snow method as I used for my war Hydra and handlers last month

STILL TO DO: The symbols on the shields and the banner. My free hand sucks so I'm waiting for my mum to set up her new craft cutter so I can cut out some templates for elven symbols instead

HIGHS AND LOWS: The high was getting more models painted in a month than I have in the past year. The low was having to paint so many models in a month, it came as quite a shock. Oh and getting pictures was another low

25 Spearmen, Shields and Full Command - 225

Spearmen - 225
War Hydra - 220
Army - 445

For this month I intend to get a unit of 5 Cold One Knights done and then some Repteater Crossbowmen to make up the remaining pts to get 200pts

On to the pics:
Spearmen Front

Spearmen Front/Side

Spearmen Side

And finally the group shot

10-09-2007, 21:16
A belated joker played for month 2 I'm afraid.. been in Spain for a large part of it and working the rest... lovely stuff by everyone :)

11-09-2007, 00:45
12 Night Gobbo Spearmen with Full Command and Netters
1 Night Gobbo Battle Standard Bearer

More generic Night Gobbos of the Whitemoon Tribe. Plus their Standard Bearer.

No conversions here, just standard GW.

Using the same technique and scheme from last month. Still going with a strong brown / earthy feel for the rank-and-file models. Unit Champion can be picked out by his (their) green hoods. Also, decided to splash red on my character models, as can be seen on the BSB.

Again, same as before. Nothing left to do here. Oh, I also added GS Mushrooms to the BSB's base to help add color and "specialness" to the model.

None that I can think of.

Low was finding a camera! I had these guys all painted and ready but I couldn't get to my sister's place to borrow her cam...
High was the GS Mushrooms! And the Army Standard green.

12 Night Gobbos with Spears, Full Command, and Netter - 103 Points
1 BSB with Light Armor, and RG's Big Red Raggedy Banner - 107 Points
1 Netter (for the 1st Unit) - 35 Points
Total for Month 2 - 245 Points
Grand Total - 160 Points + 245 Points - 405 Points

Night Gobbos with Spears, Full Command, and Netters (1 goes with the 1st Unit):

BSB with GS Mushrooms!:

Full Army Shot (Boring Version):

Full Army Shot (Night Gobbo Mode!):

ps. sorry for the VERY late post by the way!

Rich 123
11-09-2007, 10:09
Hello again,

I thought I'd better post some pictures of my one completed Night Goblin regiment, seeing as it makes up 225 out of the 345 points I have done so far.

They're night Gobbos so bigger is better, 30 guys with spears, although they will be the only regiment with spears, the abilities of Gobbos just don't deserve any more than that!

On with the show. Here is a front and a top down shot to show more of the whole group:
(Please ignore the Gobbos without proper bases, I have run out of cobbled plasticard and when I get some more intend to make master moulds to make doing the bases alot easier and quicker!)

As well as here are a couple of interesting things in the regiment.

Sorry it was a bit late and drawn out the posting process!
Thanks for looking

Lovely stuff....

Saulot - impressive icon on the standard - almost glows...

and Rich123, I like the idea of not doing gobbos in black cloaks - makes a refreshing change...

I've been MIA for a few days as I've just moved my girlfriend in with me so haven't had any time for painting. My giant has had a bit of work done on it since my last post but still not 100%. It is painted enough to play with though even if the base isn't finished & it will be finished soon.

On that note I thought I'd check in with what I plan to paint for this month TOFP - it's going to be 10 NG spider riders (just FG ones with NG on top though may change their rules slightly in friendly games) & a level 2 NG shaman. That comes in at 215 points with no magic items or command groups. They will have these when I play though I'll just keep them basic for now as don't know what they're going to have.

@saulot & rich123: very lovely goblins, I see forward to what will be painted next month.

11-09-2007, 17:47
@Saulot&Rich123: Ver good work, as always from you two.;) Saulot, nice rust on those metallics. I also like the mushrooms on the banner bearer's base much. And Rich123, You've got a quite striking, unusual scheme there. White/bone-coloured robes are always quite some work; very well executed. Did you make those bases yourself or are they resin? Cool conversions too. Way to go, guys!

As this is the WIP thread for September too: I'm doing Rakarth for this month who comes in at between 420 pts (according to the officially unofficial rules) and about 550pts, depending on wether I use him as Rakarth himself or my personal Highborn.

Courses started again and this semester is going to be a tough one; hope I'll get enough stuff painted in time, considering that I've been gathering more and more Orks who ask for painting lately.

11-09-2007, 19:59
@Saulot: Youre night goblins are really coming along nicely. I imperticularly like the isea of the Night Gobbo mode army shot, smart thinking their.

@Rich 123: Again very nice Night Goblins. The in unit scenes? are a very nice touch.

Is it just me or are there no orcs in TOFP?

Well in any case, here are the pip for my army in September.
As you can see they're coming along slowly but the riders are just about finished. I'm tring to paint the horses to look like they're mixed breeds of horses. Need some opinions on how else I can do this.
Trick wizard
This guy i was planning to keep for later months but unfortunatlly I couldn't keap my hands from painting him so I decided to paint him up this month.

11-09-2007, 20:50
hey everyone...
so i'm new to the whoe warseer thing...
but i started a nurgle chaos army and i just finished some marauder but i'm not sure about the colour scheme...
so heres a pic of one of them...

and tell me what you think of it...

12-09-2007, 00:20
Just checking in to say I'm still alive and now very brown! Been on holiday but I think I mentioned before I left I wouldnt be submitting anything for month 2 since I had no time and did 400+ points in month one. Anyway, hopefully produce something this month, lovely work again by folk this month!

12-09-2007, 00:57
Excellent work Rich123. I loved your marines and your gobboes are shaping up nicely.

I'm way ahead of September's target. Almost finished my Tyrant so I'll be able to work on some different projects and not rush painting anything. There are WiP pics in my log, I don't want to clutter this one up too much.

Will give you this one though.

12-09-2007, 05:54
Well I'm currently working on my units for september and I have a unit from squiqs( 15 squiqs, 10 herders) and I will also do some fast cavalry, I didn't include them in the list but I can use them anyway.

So that would be 221pts I paint this month.

@catferret very nice looking model, keep up the great work.

12-09-2007, 06:55
@ Leafytim, that looks nice, however this is the month 2 thread for the TOFP an army build up and painting competeition that is taking place over a twelve month period, as you can see from the title this is month two work and month 3 WIP thread, so unless you are in this TOFP you shouldn't be posting here. If you are not in this competition you need to either contact Harry and see if he will accept such a late entry, or post somewhere else on the M, P & T forums. I'll reserve commenting on you pics until they are in the correct location.

@ Catferret, that looks fantastic mate, really great colours on the gut plate.

12-09-2007, 07:42
Nice work everyone!

Catferret, that looks great!
The colour of his trousers makes me think 'Ultima Online'.. in some weird nostalgic way.. His flesh is great too! The helmet under his arm is also a nice touch.. awesome!

12-09-2007, 12:13
ya sry knight templar i reallized where i had posted the message 2 late...
your all doing great work and really fast too.. lol
and sry again...

13-09-2007, 07:35
Right then,

I've faced a dilemma this month: Do i quit, or don't i quit? It's becoming rapidly apparent that i don't have the time to commit to this project as much as i'd like, and my interest in the hobby is starting to wane a bit, for a few reasons. Especially so when i see the standard of some of the work on here - i've been painting models for 15 years, and can't even get close to some of these. It's very exasperating. It doesn't help that i'm still painting on my coffee table, and it's killing my back.

But i'm still determined not to give up. I'm setting aside some time this weekend to clear out my study (still full of boxes from when we moved in a year ago) and make a proper painting area at a proper table - Heaven! I'm going to concentrate on getting some painting practice back in, and step up my game.

So i'll be playing my last joker this month, and i've still got a card up my sleeve. This month i'll be making the decision whether to carry on with the Brets, or focus my time on redoing my undead for this project.

So until next month, any generic shouts of encouragement will be appreciated.

13-09-2007, 12:23
Well Jedi152 i for one will be much saddened by your departure, as you are one of the few people on Warseer who i reconise, and stop by to read what they say, so if you do quit then this thread will be a lot poorer for your loss.

But it looks like you've fallen for the trap that i use to, that being collecting an army and then trying to paint it to 'eavy metal standards and feel dishearted when you dont, the only advice i could give (and one that i use myself) is to tell yourself thats its for gaming only, and so when you paint a bit that your not too happy with just dismiss it and move on, and you'll be surprised how good even the worst painted army looks when its all together...

Oh well, c'est la vie i suppose...

13-09-2007, 13:22
Jedi! Thou shalt not leave! We has decided. Ha!

Nah, seriously, don't give up. OK, there area lot of great painters here but take tips and ideas from them rather than giving up. As NetGuru said, don't try and paint an army to Eavy Metal standard either. I used to think the same way and never got an army finished. Thanks to this project I have learned that models don't have to be perfect and they will still look great ranked up on the tabletop. I have started cutting back on highlight layers and restricted my palette and it speeds things up enormously.

Oh, and you might make Harry cry if you left... ;)

13-09-2007, 14:45
So until next month, any generic shouts of encouragement will be appreciated.

We're behind you all the way buddy :)

13-09-2007, 15:49
You have to stay in Andy, try your best and like NetGuru says once a few models are painted up to gaming standard it is amazing how different they look all ranked together. Brets were always going to be a difficult army for this, and I have to take my hat off to you for choosing them, if I had a choice between Brets and the 4 armies I chose to do I would pick the 4 armies as Brets require so much work! All you can do is try your best mate, we are all behind you and I am sure you can pull it off, and anyway I want to see that Bret BSB I sent you painted up ;)

Try and set aside a little time whenever possible to get your stuff done, If it is any consolation I myself am struggling this month (the MASSIVE GUO, a Doombull with alot of GS work, 30 Night Gobbos & 3 Fanatics, & 25 Flagellants was maybe a bit too much to attempt!!!) and think I'll end up Jokering at least one of my armies! Sounds like the best thing you could do would be to organise your painting space so that you are more confortable painting, that way you won't associate being in pain with painting!

13-09-2007, 17:37
Naaahh! Take the pain.:D

I think I have said before. I have hundreds, of unpainted minis because every time I have sat down to paint something I have not come up to the standard I would like. I would keep you from this fate.

Now that I am actually painting stuff I find a number of things to be true.

Most importantly. Once stuff is BASED!!!! The painting looks tons better. Look at the before and after photos on my thread. The minis are almost unrecognisable once based.
Even if the painting is simple. Take my spirit host. One colour...grey. Based they look good. The Desert Lions for the 40K thread. Three colours and based they look OK. Best of all, the Dark Elves which aside from the faces and metalics have not progressed beyond the base coat and yet based...OK.

Once you stand them next to a few others based the same way they start to look even better.

The key is not to try to paint to olympic standard. Just paint simply and cleanly (Tidily) which you can do, and base them and your laughing. You can always come back and and layers of highlight and detail on top later.

Heres the real bonus by actually painting stuff my painting is actually improving (shocker!) so even though the stuff I am painting now is not to the standard I would like I am moving closer to that standard all the time. I know I will look back at these minis and think I could do better but I will look back and love these minis because I will know it is through painting them I have improved and have got where I am.

That will be true for everyone of us who sees this project through. What ever level your painting is at now for this army, rest assured that the next army you paint will be twice as good as this one.

13-09-2007, 18:29
Right-o, here are the first WIP shots of Rakarth:

It's all a bit rough at the moment and I probably will repaint the purple glove to be brown. The reason why I tried purple first was that I shyed from adding in yet another brown. Following Arhalien's suggesion, I just painted the big middle spike on his helmet the same way as the others.
[Apologies to all you 56k'ers]

@Harry: I agree with everything you're writing eventhough I don't know about the huge effect proper bases have on miniatures because, as you might have noticed, I rarely base my miniatures properly.:p But paintingwise, practice is everything. I don't believe that there's really much talent involved in this whole business (at least at the level most of us, including me, are swinging their brushes around on), it's almost all about practice and a certain amount of ...I'll use the word passion for the simple reason that I can't think of anything more fitting at the moment.

To be honest, your speech just inspired me to start doing the snow effects on the bases I did so far. Well done, Harry!

13-09-2007, 18:56
@ Jedi152- mate stick with it. I felt the same when i was trying to get my first regiment together to post- but you know i thought this is the best I can do at the moment- based them and posted. They weren't the best ever, but my pinting will hopefully get better. Main thing is have a go, take harry's advice, do the best you can and keep working at it. Have the satisfaction of collecting is geting stuff painted, and seeing your efforts improve.
Stay with us! Stay away from the light![ok maybe a tad over the top but you get the drift..]

13-09-2007, 20:20

UNIT: 20 Pikemen with command (250) and a paymaster (77).

BACKGROUND/THEME: Rushing of to work right now, but its rather good. About a lone chaos chieftan trying to raise a new army.

BUILD/CONVERSION: Bretonnians, heresy, lord of the rings, black tree. There the odds and sods of my collection. The paymasters a little more involved so if anyone wants a full list of parts drop me a line.

PAINTING: Was going great until I started the paymaster. I spent too long on him so the pikemen suffered sadly. Its why the look unfinished. I think its better to move on now rather then get stuck so I dont lose the passion for the army as a whole. I also know the shields are not done - this is largely because Im casting my own design for the shield which'l take awhile but I assure you its worth the wait.

BASING: Dont do it till there all done

HIGHS AND LOWS: Lots of lows. Working so much I dont do anything else (in the past four weeks or so Ive had about 4 days off, and Ive slept through one of those...), realising I wasnt going to get the pikemen done this month.
Highs were definately getting the army built. Spent about two days building everything ready as I knew I simply wouldnt have the time anymore with Uni and work -also made me realise that I had everything I needed for an army so required little more investment. Also think Im getting involved in a map campaign with one of my actors which'll be cool, but means I need to paint faster :(

STILL TO DO: Tons but I cant be arsed. They look alright for now and I know Ill keep chipping away at them as the months go on. Its just doing the Paymaster first that really stopped me getting on.

POINTS: 77 + 250... 327?. So far thats the loverly total of 443 which is excellent.

PLANS AHEAD: Ive caught up where I was behind and im now enough ahead that I can do one of the cheaper units this month like my Dark Elf Crossbowmen or the cannon. Alternatively if things go mental I can quickly bash out a cursed company. My main thinking is that if I can get to christmas okay then Im alright. Having said all this, Ive already started on my Samurai cavalry (234 points)....

13-09-2007, 22:28
Jedi - don't quit if you can help it. Definately get yourself a proper painting area set up as its so much more comfortable, I tend to watch TV or stuff from my computer when I paint (sure I got some form of ADHD though as I can't just do one thing at a time!) & that way your getting two things done at the same time. Plus you paint to a high standard, your army isn't going to be 'eavy metal standard but then very few on here are. However, your Bret's are looking very nice & it'd be a shame for them to be another army consigned to the 'started but never finished' pile (and god knows we've got all got plenty of them!). I found it really hard to get motivated to paint my giant last month (even though I've wanted the model for so long!) but this thread always helps to inspire and basing definately does make a difference!

13-09-2007, 22:42
Tiny update: I snowified the bases of the Dark Riders.;)

14-09-2007, 01:43
Tiny update: I snowified the bases of the Dark Riders.;)

pics, then! :p
btw, glad you're doing good 'ol Rakarth! and i dunno, i kinda like him with purple gloves. i feel it'll match too much with his sword's handle if you made it brown... (hmm... change the handle to purlpe then?)

@Jedi152: just hang in there, man! it'll be a shame to lose another painter. as Harry keeps on stressing, 3 colors and based. that's all you need to meet to be in this thing. stay for that. before you know it, you'll have a FINISHED army on your hands-- Bretonnian no less!

@asmodai_dark86: lovely colors you got there! i'm getting a strong rag-tagged feel of the unit which goes perfectly with DoW! love the Halfling(?) on the front rank!

14-09-2007, 04:57
He makes me smile too :D Hes got a small bag of money.. a lot more persuasive then a prat with a drum :P

14-09-2007, 05:27
Hes got a small bag of money.. a lot more persuasive then a prat with a drum :P

hahaha now that you mention that, i think the halfling's PURE GENIUS!!! :D

14-09-2007, 08:34
O.k ive started painting again, thats right im alive ;), and ui will be doing two armies, increases my chances of finising one ;), they shall be dwarfs and tomb kings.

Th sad irony is my digi camera just broke.

Zark the Damned
14-09-2007, 10:14
Wow, everyone seems to be making great progress so far (except the lazy slackers who've been playing jokers ;))

Haven't had much chance to log on to Warseer recently but am glad to see this still going. I am still deciding what to submit for this month (most likely my Maneaters).

@Johanmaul '@ Zark, nice looking Ogre's. I'm a big fan of skin coloured Ogre's and your look good. Are all those models really only 400 points?!'

Cheers for the kind words - but no, the picture is more than 400 - the Bulls at the back I had already painted before the TOFP started, I just include them for completeness (The TOFP units are the Ironguts and Leadbelchers)

14-09-2007, 12:44
I been thinking about it & Jedi you're not allowed to stop. Your contributions are greatly appreciated & if you stop we shall hunt you with the fiery zeal of the witch hunters and reign down righteous retribution upon you. You shall be tied to your painting desk (arms free) and WILL paint your Bretonnians otherwise we shall light fires under your feet and watch you burn!!!!

Sometimes I think I can take life a little too seriously....

14-09-2007, 14:08
Just thought I'd post just to tell you where I';ve got to; sorry for the lack of pics, I've got a new laptop which doesn;t have a port for my camera;s memory stick. I'll try and get onto the pc to upload some pics but don';t expect anything until I can find a usb adapter for the memory stick.

Anyway, progress;
I've finished 2 Glade Riders, and started work on the last 3 riders.

Erm, that's it really ;)

15-09-2007, 00:11
Jedi, if you're worried about your painting not being as good as the rest of the painters in ToFP then i'll stay so at least yours can be better than mine.

i'm struggling what to paint for this month.
have been building a lot of the army up and work has been quite heavy on me at the mo..
Then i've been working on this Brettonian Fay Enchantress for some reason, nothing to do with my ToFP Empire army...

have just got a bit of this warrior priest started today
Not much done to him aside from the base colours but thought i'd post an update for once.
C&C as always are usefull...

16-09-2007, 16:19
@catferret: lovely work on the ogre matey, I like the slightly understated colour pallette.

@sigur: coming along nicely, this model was one of my favourites when it came out and one I've always had a soft sopt for so I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Oh.... Wow! I painted something!!!!! (sorry the photos aren't great)

16-09-2007, 16:36
Nice looking Spawn Armos. Very squishy looking.

16-09-2007, 16:51
I was going for squishy :p

16-09-2007, 17:34
Agreed on the squishy comment - nice work :)

16-09-2007, 21:16
And another update... Chaos Sorcerer this time;

16-09-2007, 21:34
Now thats old school. Nice paint job on the sorcerer and the spawn. I particularly like the gloves, a nice tanned leather.

I wish we had this much action in the 40k thread. :(

16-09-2007, 21:40
Woah, nice Chaos Sorcerer! I especially like the red robe but the gloves also look impressive.

@Saulot: You can see the snowyfied bases in my project log. I posted some army shots there too as well as the latest pictures of the currently WIP Rakarth.;)

edit: linky! (http://warseer.com/forums/fantasy-project-logs/54370-bfsp-box-dark-elves-and-various-other-stuff-by-sigur-18.html)

17-09-2007, 07:10
@ Armos, really great work on the sorceror and the spawn!!

17-09-2007, 13:05
Wow. You all deserve an applaud! :D

dave3555, the metal on your dwarfs looks so good!

Good job everyone! Keep working. ^^

18-09-2007, 13:27
Ok folks, I'm havin trouble with this months entry & can't decide what to do. I was going to convert BfSP NG to ride the spiders as I want an all NG army but not sure how good it looks? I've attached a couple of pictures of the one I've done. Have cut down the cloak a little and cut out a bit in the middle to make it look like the legs are seperate but i'm not totally convinced on it, especially the lack of feet which just won't fit. So my dilemma is whether to continue on with these (in which case any ideas on how I can improve them would be greatly recieved) to fit the army or whether Skarsnik should recruit some actual forest goblins to his cause?!

edit - have just tried changin the leg position on one of the spiders as suggested by Sambojin (see here - http://warseer.com/forums/m-p-t-general-discussion/48857-spider-riders-the-easiest-conversions-yet.html?highlight=spider-rider) to make them look less static which i'm probably going to do with most of them. This means that I can probably bend the offending legs out of the way so I can have the feet although then they may look like they're surfing...?

18-09-2007, 14:09
Hmm, it looks ok, but it does look a bit like he's standing on the spider to me....

18-09-2007, 14:36
looks good Jonah... a pic from the side might give a better idea of what you mean though :)

18-09-2007, 15:13
Side pictures as requested although you can't really make much out. Thought I could possibly try with a bit of green stuff coming over the sides & maybe over the spiders legs a bit to make it a bit more of a flowing cape but then still have the problem with the feet. Unfortunately my green stuff skills are quite lacking. I'd prefer to stick with an all NG army & I would like some cavalry but don't want the spider riders to look rubbish

18-09-2007, 17:55
looking good to me Jonah

18-09-2007, 17:59
Sorry guys, but it looks like I'm going to have to drop out.

School comes first, for the most part, and has taken all my money so I can't get anything new for the army I am building. Some of you may call me names or whataever for dropping out but if you want to send me some money, I'll gladly stay.

I'll still be keeping an eye on everything though.

18-09-2007, 18:53
What army you doing? Not sure how many donations of money you'd get but there's more than likely people here who can spare models.

19-09-2007, 09:51
What's this? Huw's posting? :eyebrows:

Well, college has begun and I am currently sitting in my hip new computer suite, dodging computer watchers. And I have time for Warseer again! Most of my time has been shamefully eaten away by the evils of Homework and RuneScape (yes, RuneScape) and so I have to fall back on some models I already half painted before the beginning of August.

This Month, I shall be painting:
16 Dwarf Quarrelers with Great Weapons, Full Command. About 240pts, I think.

For the record, that spawn is very mutatedly evil, armos. :p
- Huw

19-09-2007, 14:24
I was doing a Slaaneshi Cult Chaos Army, so I needed lots of Empire Flagellants to make units and whatnot as well as Daemonettes.

19-09-2007, 19:57
Right, finished the riders of the Glade Riders; Hell I'm growing to hate batch painting; it's just so frustrating knowing that I can paint the models so much better but am being constrained by time.
I really hope I can get some of the HE heroes at GD so I have some models I can really go overboard on painting.

19-09-2007, 22:41
The High Elf Heroes will definitely be at Games Day. Should be plenty available by all accounts so don't panic Arhalien.

20-09-2007, 09:50
The High Elf Heroes will definitely be at Games Day. Should be plenty available by all accounts so don't panic Arhalien.

yeah but think how quickly they sell out.
everyone rushes to the stalls and snaps them up.

we need our best running shoes on.. =P

20-09-2007, 11:42
Im now faced with a bit of a dilema for this months entry.
Its taken me the better part of 2 weeks to get started on the knights.
And so far ive done...wait for it.....pink edging on 2 horses (its proving trickier to do than i had expected).

With Uni starting next week (freshers week!) I may be pushed to finish the entire unit.

But seeing how hastings has streched his GD over 3months due to its points cost..and the knights costing 295 points (and ive done about 500pts total so far) would it be possible to strech them over 2months if i chuck the spawn in to make 400 next month?

20-09-2007, 11:46
But I like panicking Catferret.... ;)
I'll be doing a spellsinfer next month so even if I dont get any of the HE heroes then I'll have something to do; it should also allow me to get started on November's painting early so I can spend a bit more time on them.

22-09-2007, 16:49
Hello all, been a while sense i've showen any of my work so here we go.
The trick wizard
Fairly happy with how this fellow is turnning out, even more happy with the free hand on his back.
Almost finished with the riders and just have to do a lot more on the horses.
Hopping to finish all of these before next weekend becouse i'm going to a Halo 3 party. And another special bonus is a preview of next months wip. I present the Knights of the white wolf.
Q&C are welcome.

22-09-2007, 16:51
Impressive stuff Dino; nice freehand on the robes :)

Oh, and a brief update on my painting; I've finished all but 1 horse for the glade riders. That horse needs respraying as I started it in a cream colour scheme which I then realised would look rubbish with the other colours of the army.

22-09-2007, 19:02
Dino - stuff looking really good. I really love that wizard, is the smoke/face coming out of the jar on the sprue or is that something you've made/converted yourself? Either way it looks cool & I think the freehand on the cloak is really good too.

Update on my own work - this month i've so far done very little & we only have just over a week left :wtf: I decided to go for NG riders & they're all on top of the spiders now but I need to do a litte bit of green stuffing on the sides of the goblins to disguise where I cut the feet off. Luckily I think they'll be quite quick to paint so going to hopefully get the green stuff done tomorrow then i'll have a week to paint everything.

23-09-2007, 21:01
Nice to see that people like my wizard. To answer youre question Jonahmaul the soul in the bottle that the wizard is holding is straight from the brand new wizard spure it self.
Speaking of which my 200 points is finished for this month.
Trick wizard
Now that their finished I can focus on finishing up my other empire stuff for Adepticon, 600 points down 2,400 points left:(.

23-09-2007, 22:38
I will only be doing dwarfs now as appocalypse is restricting my cash alot.

May only have crappy phone pics as my camera is being repaired.:cries:

24-09-2007, 07:25
'grats dino! you seem to be getting better and better with each post! the wizard's robe looks very nice! good job!

as for my own entry, i'm taking it a little slow this month and i'll just do 2 characters and a few NG archers. i'm nearly done and i'll just post it as soon as the month three thread opens. ^_^

the varks
24-09-2007, 09:36
sorry if its a bit late but i did not have enough chance for the update so i will have to joker augaust (the 2nd work thing, right?).

should have something done for this month though.

damn Games Day..

now i have all these new things i want to work on, but i really have to get this months stuff done first...

24-09-2007, 20:02
Im now faced with a bit of a dilema for this months entry.
Its taken me the better part of 2 weeks to get started on the knights.
And so far ive done...wait for it.....pink edging on 2 horses (its proving trickier to do than i had expected).

With Uni starting next week (freshers week!) I may be pushed to finish the entire unit.

But seeing how hastings has streched his GD over 3months due to its points cost..and the knights costing 295 points (and ive done about 500pts total so far) would it be possible to strech them over 2months if i chuck the spawn in to make 400 next month?
Yes. That would be fine.

It's freshers week. Go, get amongst it, tear the **** out of it and get motherless. Its what uni is all about. :D

If you are anywhere near 800 points by the end of October that will be great.

I am in all kinds of trouble myself this month.

I got distracted first by one side project (some empire ogres) then by another (some archers) then by my monster high elf side project and September is a nightmare month for me at work anyway. Then we are a few men down so i am picking up loads of extra hours and as a result I have left myself in real danger of having to joker several of my armies.

Still a week to go. Where there's a will.....

24-09-2007, 21:44
I could provide the will if you'd like me to Harry. All I need to know is where you live and I need an electric cattle prod:evilgrin:.

But in all seriousness, an idea might have been to paint characters for each of youre armies(this probably could of worked sence you know that september is a very busy anyway). Example: A Necromancer or two for youre Vampire counts.

Anyway hope you get sum stuff done at the end of the week. Good luck Harry.

If he is anything like me he will end up making a character take longer than just painting a unit :D

I'm afraid things are looking a bit bleak for me being able to continue with this project. Last month I had almost no time to paint due to holidays and other commitments and this month is looking very much the same. On a positive note though, I think I will be returning to my empire army briefly to update some units and make it usable, though whether this is part of this project or not remains to be seen im afraid.

25-09-2007, 15:13
Right, convincing myself to paint WE for the rest of this month could be hard; so much new High Elf stuff making me want to paint it :(
Then there;s the problem of having no way of getting the pictures onto a computer without groveeling at my sister's door begging to use the pc for a few minutes :D

26-09-2007, 08:09
Borrow Dino's cattleprod & take her out of the equation!

28-09-2007, 21:26
It is witha heavy heart that i must remove my self from this quest, ive used all my jokers and wont have a camera for atleast another 6 months.

I will keep checking in on this, can i inquire as to wether there will be another one next year?

28-09-2007, 21:33
Real shame that you can't continue with the project Skott, especially because of something silly like a lack of a camera. :(

Progress report: Not much. Somehow everything seems to have gone crazy as far as school is cocerned and since I've last posted all I've managed to do Hobby-wise is assemble the models I got at GD and do the first layer of brown on the Glade Guard. However, if I work to the deadline a week after the start of the next month I should make it without having to resort to cutting back on the level of attention. *crosses fingers*

I might play a tactical joker this month.... I have mostly finished what I wanted but I don't feel like rushing it, and I don't have the money to buy what I need so there'd be a joker either this month or next month and i might as well take my time.

Update Pictures comming later.

29-09-2007, 15:04
I am struggling this month big time! I planned on Jokering my Empire army as a tactical decision anyway, but due to having like 4 days at home all month and a wife who still has the lip on because I chose to go to Gamesday on my Birthday instead of sitting round the house bored to tears and getting nagged at I am going to be struggling to come up with anything for this month!!

Next month isn't going to be any easier, I have a few days up in Aberdeen for a meeting, then 2 weeks offshore, then a week off before I go back to work!! I really need to buckle down or next month could be the end of the line :(

29-09-2007, 15:32
Man i'm gonna feal out of place if i'm the only one who has his 200 points finished for september.

@Arhalien: I can relate school wise. Right now I have three art projects that have been conveniently dumped on me just as I've started painting my knights of the white wolf. As for youre sister an idea has occured, just say you have her favorite desert in the kitchen and watch her plitz away from that computer and run in and lock the door and throw away the key.

@75hastings69: Youre wife wouldn't happen to think that painting little toy soldiers is silly would she?

@Dead orc: Gotta do what you gotta do.

@Harry: Do you have any new pics of youre High elves?

And the proof that i've done some work:

Tried a different approach with the skin than my other lizzies. I'll probably use this for the saurus heroes later on.

29-09-2007, 16:03
The skin on that skink is wonderful dead orc, nice one. I'd suggest highlighting the feathers a tad more, they look a little on the dark side to me.

I think that was just after I gave them a brown wash to give them more contrast. Its still got work to do on it and thats why I'm jokering so I can make it look better.

29-09-2007, 16:35
Nice work on the Skink Deadorc.

And don't worry Dino, you aren't the only one who's finished. My Tyrant was finished for GD so I've actually done half of October too.

29-09-2007, 17:07
Despite a stupid busy month at work, (sixty hour weeks) getting distracted by numerous side projects (see my log) and spending some time trying to finish a Golden Demon entry .... I am, believe it or not, there or there abouts on four of the five of my armies and I have a cunning plan to avoid jokering the 5th. (the 400 point character spread over two months for FTW :D)

I rock! :D

Having said that I have a busy 24 hours painting ahead of me to get some of it finished (as things stand right now none of it is finished). I get to sleep when I am dead though, right? :D

29-09-2007, 17:36
Right, the last 4 Glade Guard are coming on a pace (just done the second coat on the flesh) and the last horse is currently drying after its repspray along with the new HE stuff I got at GD; I will make it :D

A great sight, al those people paining excellent miniatures.

@Dead orc
Don't joker. Post what you have. You can always keep working on it afterwards.
Who knows what will turn up for next months painting.
What are you after? Maybe one of us can help.

Nooooooo. Don't Jack it in. Just play a joker...keep watching maybe your enthusiasm will return.

Someone must be able to lend you a camera once a month?

Not so funny now is it. It was all laughs when I was getting it in the neck from my wife. :D

OUCH! Hello Helga, I was just telling everyone what a wonderful wife you are.

29-09-2007, 21:04
I thought some one would but have had no luck at all, most people i know still use film, or they dont trust me:(

29-09-2007, 21:13
OK so if in doubt...blag it.
Your school has got cameras I imagine. You tell your art teacher you have this great idea for a project. You want to take a photo from the same spot each month for the rest of the school year (that will see this project off). Can you borrow a school camera overnight once a month. Sorted.:D

I dont do art, and after a few events all cameras must be used uder he supervision of a teacher, i already tried, great minds and all that.

Ill have a go at a few others i know but i doubt they have one :(

Will there be another tale of painters next year?

don't know where i'm gonna find the time..

Almost done with this months. Will be on monday, me and the gf are having a painting session as she wants to get her spider riders finished.
I'll try and start Octobers early and then finish after my busy period...

Sorry to disappoint, Harry but I will be pulling a joker this month. Partly because it gives me some more time to spend working on making my wolf riders how I would like.

Partly I also want to spend some time on reworking my marines for the up-coming Carnage tournie to get them up to scratch and I need to sculpt alot of parts for a new HQ. By using a joker I get a bit of breathing room and I also get to post my Joker Goblin mini!

Harry i'll see what I get done tommorrow and If I think that its enough then i'll post the models.

I have some things I can be painting next month but I'm not sure if i'll be using them in the army... As I've only painted skinks so far I was thinking about going full-southlands; but if i stay a standard lizzie army I can paint some of my Saurus Cavalry next month....

Lets not get ahead of ourselves..tommorow will decide my fate and see if i have to joker or not.

Well I'm done for this month I painted only 170pts but I had already painted 455pts so I don't think this will be a problem.

I will post some wip pictures to tease you guys

Tommorow you will see the painted result or you can check my blog ;)

Hmm, looks like I may have to take advantage of the extra time allowed after the first of the month; didn;t get as much done on Saturday as I would have liked and I have an English Essay to finish for Tuesday now.
So what I'm doing here is anyone's guess ;)

Would it be acceptable to only do 100 points this month and a 300+ point unit next month? I might give my priest a few 'goodies' to pump him up to 125 ish so that i'll be around 500 points after this month...
I know that its bending the rules but the swarms are not acceptable and need re-painting....

01-10-2007, 00:33
Don't think of them as rules so much as guidlines to keep you on track. :D

All contributions are gratefully recieved. :D

I have opened the new thread now so I'll close this one.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread see you on the next one.
