View Full Version : Grimtuff does a(nother) Project log.....

07-11-2007, 15:17
...As I neglected the first one and didn't stick to it (because i'm weak-willed) *ahem*. My aim for this is simple. To plough through much of the stuff i've got so buying more stuff won't be as bad (he he)

Without further ado, I introduce the particpants:
RED is bad, not really a priority. But I would like to get them done.
AMBER is so-so. I've a good force for gaming with but they've been unpainted for too long.
GREEN is a good status, the level I would like to get all of the armies up to.
Space Wolves: about 85% done, i'll tackle these first
Khador: only about 1/2 the stuff painted
Cult of Slaanesh Dark Elves: about 70% done.
Nurgle Daemons: Basecoated. These may have to wait until the new book next year.
Necrons: 99.9999% done. They're not really part of this (yet) but the squads paint up so quick they can be done as an "in between" thing)
Legion of Everblight: Basecoated. Stuff still in boxes.....
Dark Eldar Haemonculi Cult: Urien Rakarth painted, Grotesque conversions basecoated.

There's more, but we'll do them later. One step at a time.....
Here's a taster of my Space Wolves.
Wolf Lord
Grey Hunter pack
WIP Wolf Guard Terminators.

As you can see, i'm a rather messy painter, but the end result comes out nice IMO.

Also my Khador:

On with the log!

08-11-2007, 21:51
Whoah. 76 views and no replies. I'm not that boring am I?

Some progress has been made on the Terminators. I know the paint looks a little thick on the Cruxs, but they're repaints.... and they look a good gaming standard in the army as a whole IMO.

Now to jazz the thread up a bit I give you the Brass Scorpion conversion (made to look suspiciously like Plaguelord Baldaric's version) I won't be painting this for a while. But if you egg me on enough I can get round to painting it.

*Note the poor little Space Wolf there for scale.
CnC always welcome.

13-11-2007, 11:58
Loving the huge Brass Scorpion, is that more than 2 defiler's worth?

13-11-2007, 15:31
Some very cool stuff here, I espicially like your Wolf Lord and your Khador, even though I don't know what the Khador is!

I would suggest maybe adding a couple of highlights on some of the wolves armour, it looks a tad flat.

Keep up the good work and please paint the brass scorpion :D

17-11-2007, 20:34
Good God! People replied! I was getting lonely, I may as well update for you then.... :p

@Tonberry: Nope, it's just 2 Defilers. Pretty much the whole thing is made from the 2 kits

The Terminators are now done.

and i'm moving onto the next stage of the army (as it's being converted to an Apocalypse force) This is how it stands ATM.

Naturally i've decided to go full circle and re-do my first ever army (the originals are lost in the mists of time though) as allies.

Here's one Sergeant Centurius to kick off my LOTD allied contingent.

The flames are not as bright IRL, the flash on my digicam brought them up like that, just like it dulls the highlights on my Space Wolves......

As for the Khador. They've been put on hold for a bit as Nurgle Daemons will take their place no thanks to a good friend of mine who got my playing WHFB again so the Warhammer bug is rooted firmly in place and won't budge till i've painted an army.

CnC as always, is welcome.

17-11-2007, 21:27
That venerable dread thingy is excellent. Ive never seen one modelled to look like infantry as opposed to a walker. I normally lurk here but you made me post!

17-11-2007, 22:00
That venerable dread thingy is excellent. Ive never seen one modelled to look like infantry as opposed to a walker. I normally lurk here but you made me post!

Cheers for the comments! I assume you're on about this one.
It was part of a stillborn Iron Hands army, but got converted (more) and migrated into my SW army. The head is made from a GW keyring, which I found out completley by accident that they're made from the same substance as their metal figs.

Also, here's a Vindicare Assassin Kill Team for Apocalypse.

They're made from some old Syntha (I think) models from Void, Cadian Lasguns and CSM smoke launchers as the scopes. Two scopes on each weapon, they've got to shoot better now surely! :p

*BTW i've noticed the splodge of paint on one of the Vindicare's legs. It'll get corrected in a bit.

18-11-2007, 08:36
Really nice killteam. And that legion of the dammend trooper looks pale.

20-11-2007, 21:20
Really nice killteam. And that legion of the dammend trooper looks pale.

They're meant to look like that. Getting trapped in the Warp does not exactly do good things to your complexion.

Speaking of LOTD, here's a start on the Terminator (do you get the impression I like Terminators?) and Command squads. They are both VERY WIP, the flames need sharpening up quite drastically for starters but it give you an idea of how they're painted.

Also, here's a sneaky peeky for the Daemonic Legion i'll hopefully get started on next week(ey).

Yes, there really are 60 Plaguebearers there!

C&C always welcome.

20-11-2007, 22:32
very cool stuff Grimtuff...
i really like that vindicare kill team, what models did u use to convert them? i wouldnt mind having a go at building some myself...

keep up the good work and cracking paint-jobs all round

I'm liking the look of thar Daemonic Legion, may thieve some ideas if you don't mind.

nice im subscribing

i'd **** my pants if i saw this in real life. Great stuff!

i'd **** my pants if i saw this in real life. Great stuff!

Why thankyou. (I think! :p)

Very minor update time: Terminators are now finished. Here's a pic of them.

C&C welcome as always :)

27-11-2007, 21:13
Little update on the Command Squad. They're now 1/3rd complete and well on the way to being 100% done.

Here's the completed 3

And a couple of shots of the Company Champion at different angles.

C&C welcome as always. :)

29-11-2007, 13:53
I really like your Wolf Lord and Ven Dred. Your deamon legion looks promising too! Hoping for more pics of that!

01-12-2007, 23:00
Update time!

Here's a shot of the whole Apocalypse-sized SW force and also an indication of what is left to paint

I know what you're thinking. They need more tanks! As after looking at that pic that is what I thinking. I'm incredibly heavy on the infantry front, but I think I need a little more armour.... Though having said that a converted Knight Castellan is absent from the pic as it's in the window of GW Lincoln (heh).

WIP on a Librarian made from the old Tiggerius (hoo hoo hoo hoo, yes I know mispelt it) He should be finshed by tomorrow.

Completed Command Squad. Did a little freehand on the banner, the skull is based on an Aztec idol of Mictlantecuhtli, whose "sunken-cheeked and horribly grimacing, keeps watch over the cold, famine ravaged relam of the dead." Sounded perfect for LOTD!

Lastly a WIP Tactical Squad, complete with a conversion of a Vet Sgt. that I "borrowed" from CMON.

C&C welcome as always.

02-12-2007, 08:46
So your force is a mix of legion of the dammed and space wolves? Interseting. But I think that you don't need anymore tanks, you got 4 dreadnoughts and that is enough. And what is knigh cellestian?

02-12-2007, 11:28
why does the dreadnought have the 8 pointed chaos star on him? otherwise hes awesome...

02-12-2007, 12:00
The dread don't have an eight-pointed star, tis some sort of relic thing, like a chappie's rosarius. I think it's from the terminator sprue?

02-12-2007, 15:19
The dread don't have an eight-pointed star, tis some sort of relic thing, like a chappie's rosarius. I think it's from the terminator sprue?

Correct, it's from the Assault Terminator box. Looking at it again, it does look like a Chaos star.

03-12-2007, 06:27
Nice work Grimtuff, I'm always a Space Wolf Fan. Those LotD and the Venerable dread would make me go crazy if they were in my store. Now if they sold Space Wolf Venerable Dreads like that...

03-12-2007, 22:05
Update time!

Tigger is finished

I'm also working on the Jetbike mounted (counts as a normal bike) Iron Priest that you may have seen lingering around in the back of the army shots.

He, like the previously posted Dreadnought was part of a stillborn Iron Hands army and has now been integrated into my SW.

C&C always welcome as usual. :)

Razor Devil
04-12-2007, 05:01
Tigger is the master of the LotD for your army right?

And have you thought about putting transfers in for your space wolves? Or did I just miss them?

04-12-2007, 10:41
Tigger is the master of the LotD for your army right?

I'll be using him as a Librarian (opponent permitting, as the LOTD Datasheet cannot have one) He was just painted up in LOTD colours as I had him kicking around TBH.

And have you thought about putting transfers in for your space wolves? Or did I just miss them?

Over the years (before they got repainted) I tried many freehand symbols and some transfers and nothing seemed to fit (or I could not paint it consistentley) so in the end they've been left blank unfortunately.

10-12-2007, 21:26
Wow, just realised i've not updated this in ages..... (sorry guys!)

I've just (as in about half an hour ago) completed the Iron Priest. Here he is for some C&C
...and a top shot with some runic freehand (which needs tidying up tomorrow in better light) that should be painfully obvious what it says.

Here's some more progression on the LOTD Tactical squad as well. Until I photographed these guy I never really saw how much the flash brings out what is some rather subtle grey highlights IRL. They look incredibly grey under a strong light.

wow, i really like the chaplain with two powerfists:D

may i nick the techmarine on jetbike idea?

Nephilim of Sin
18-12-2007, 10:45
Have to say I was unsure about the jetbike at first, but I am liking it. Good job, especially on the eagle on the front. It looks very well done.

18-12-2007, 11:39
wow, i really like the chaplain with two powerfists.

may i nick the techmarine on jetbike idea?

Cheers, and be my guest to steal that idea!

Well, it's been over a week and i've not updated (yet i've evidently still been painting stuff. Hmmm)

Tactical squad 1 is 100% done
Tactical squad 2 is 70% done. I can tackle those other 3 tonight after i've finished the last leg of this goddamn Christmas shopping.

With those 3 done that will be the LOTD Datafax completed (unless I decide to get a Dreadnought for them, though that is after i've painted a LOT more stuff) and i'm going to treat myself as it were by painting this random(ish) fig

Yup, you've guessed it, another stillborn army and this is where the rest of the MOTRW got to! I built this after buying the fig and seeing "300" on the same day. Eventually my sense of reason saw this would be a little bit of bandwagon jumping so he was left on my desk for ages and I finally gave him a shield last week.

18-12-2007, 22:48
"You wait ages for one update then 2 come along at once...."

LOTD are now complete, here's a full shot of the whole army:

Now to pave you over as I probably will not be doing any more major updates until after Christmas, here's some shots of my Necrons that have (probably) not been seen on Warseer before. They're painted in a verdigris scheme, mainly as I had never seen a Necron (or indeed any) army painted like this before.

Warriors (40 of these, we really only need 1 shot though):
Wraith Squad 1:

18-12-2007, 22:51

Destroyer Lord:
Wraith Squad 2:
Scarab Swarms (emphasis on the "swarms" part. I have 9 more of these bases on my painting desk ATM):

These Necrons (somewhat) lead on to the next thing I spent my day doing today....

18-12-2007, 22:57
....A contingent of Adeptus Mechanicus!

The reason why I said somewhat connected is due to the freeform nature of Apocalypse I can take anything from any army. So this unit, which will probably be a Witch Hunter =][= and retinue will also have their metals painted in verdigris so they can slip seamlessly between my Imperial and Necron forces depending on what I decide to use, see? :)

Lead by Magos Nellyius (yes, my housemate pointed out to me he does look like he has a trunk, hence the name) I think it does look a little silly, but it gives him a name that sticks :D

Note the other retinue member made from various Warzone and Void figures, though my personal fave (even from when I originally made him ages ago) is the one that looks suspisciously like Syndrome from "The Incredibles" :p

C&C welcome as always.

19-12-2007, 08:47
The ushabti lord looks cool, but are the arms a little on the small side for him? Some original ideas on the mech guys as well. Keep up the good work!

19-12-2007, 11:48
I really like your necrons, a very original color scheme. Only the pure red blades are a little over it, if that is completely blood.

19-12-2007, 14:34
Those necron lords are really good, its nice to see something different and it works really well.

19-12-2007, 18:56
I really like your necrons, a very original color scheme. Only the pure red blades are a little over it, if that is completely blood.

Cheers for the comments. It's not blood, it's how I sort of simulate the "power weapon" effect on my models, it's just the Necron ones also had to tie in with the painted rods ;)

29-12-2007, 20:11
Finally after the madness of Christmas we have the first update in 12 or so days....

I'm in the final furlong for my Space Wolves, with only a Iron Priest, a squad of Scouts and a single Wolf Guard Terminator to go.

Here's the Iron Priest (who is used as a normal Techmarine in APOC, so he can get the tech Servitors and a FSH) The Servitors are finished and the IP *should* be done by tonight.

Also, a bit of sad (or good, if you want them) news, i'm getting rid of my World Eaters, along with the Brass Scorpion, so they will never be completed by me. If you want them, they're here (http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZgrimtuffQQfrppZ50QQfsopZ1QQfsooZ1QQrdZ0)

C&C welcome as always.

29-12-2007, 20:45
love the necrons dude

01-01-2008, 20:28
That Ushabti lord is really cool, nice work.

01-01-2008, 20:46
Update time!

I've finished the Techmarine (TBH I finished him 2 days ago, but i've only just round to loading up pics) who, incidentally I also just broke as I was looking at the pic below and though "His plasma cutter looks a little wonky....". It's been repaired though :o

Now, I have a question for you lot. This log seems to advertise the fact i'm actually doing the Nurgle Daemons as well, yet I seem to have not made any progress on them. Do you want me to concentrate on these for a while or just finish off whats left of the Apocalypse-sized force?

01-01-2008, 23:18
I would prefer you too keep going on the Apocalypse stuff, its good so far and I want to see more.

02-01-2008, 00:16
go apoc yeah

and dirty that new walker guy up!!!! tons of black wash, spots of diff color oils, red rust... just do a lil @ a time till he looks suitable messy.

02-01-2008, 01:27
that anubis looking necron lord is brilliant. I might have to look into nicking that idea.

02-01-2008, 01:56
I love the Daemonic legion. Using spawn as nurgle beasts, genius. Could I trouble you for some close ups of the chariot and the spawn converted riders? I think it's one of the best/versatile models out there.

02-01-2008, 20:06

interesting. Anyway, I can't say I'm diggin' the LoTD, but your space wolves look pretty good -- I like that first squad.

Razor Devil
05-01-2008, 08:58
That techmarine freaks me out man. It's great, but it freaks me out. The green makes it partly resemble a Necron, especially since it has metal shoulder plates and nearly metal everything.

05-01-2008, 12:52
Cool log. Really looking forward to those nurgle demons; looks like you've been having some fun with the new spawn set ;)

07-01-2008, 19:21
Cheers for the replies guys, I think it's high time I did an update though.

ATM I seem to be in a phase of painting somewhat random models as i've been painting some of my Daemonic Legion. Now I have my first unit of Plaguebearers done.

And this Herald, currently riding a (counts as) Beast of Nurgle, it will probably end up as a Palanquin when the new book comes out.

@Bluebugs: Here's a closeup of one of the units of Plagueriders. As you can see, they're far from finished

07-01-2008, 19:28
And there's more!

Fear not, Apocalypse followers. There's stuff for you too.

I've all but completed 2 members of a Adeptus Mechanicus squad

I'm using the same colour pallete as my Necrons but it does not sway too much from my Imperial stuff, so they can be used in both forces.

Now for a biggy: Something to properly do after all this infantry. I've had a 2nd Baneblade kicking around since its release, I was never sure what to do with it until I was shopping in Tesco and found this:
It has in it this:

So I got myself two of them, and I'm (obviously) making a Macharius Vulcan. The rest of the bits will come in useful as well, as many of them have a very "Necron-ey" quality to them so I can complete my long suffering Necron Flyers (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v615/Grimtuff/Necrons/?action=view&current=100_0168.jpg).

Updates will hopefully come in within about an hour or two!

C&C Welcome as always.

07-01-2008, 21:16
And here's the update as promised.

Here it is ATM, as you can see, it seems to jutt out a lot more than the stock FW one, but heh, bigger is better in 40k right?

I've put it on my existing Hellhammer hull to show you how it will sit, though i'm centralising the turret as you can see in the last picture (yes I did break 2 knife blades getting through that!) it will be covered over in Plasticard and have a turret ring made.

C&C welcome as always.

07-01-2008, 22:04
Grimmy, that tank is frikkin insane. You sir are a madman. :D

Razor Devil
07-01-2008, 23:02
Nice, it shows that Lego can coexist with Warhammer!

16-01-2008, 19:34
Don't worry i'm not dead, i've just been caught up in a few real life things. But still I really do not want to paint any more 40k stuff ATM (though I still want to build the rest of that Macharius Vulcan, the BB hull is a pig to build though) mainly due to the Scouts below being somewhat intricate and not lending themselves at all to my style of painting (i.e. slightly messy :p) that and an "incident" yesterday on Vets night....

Only Freddie Mercury the Meltagunner is anywhere near completion, the others will get done as these are the last SW squad that needs painting.

Though in the meantime i'll be focusing on my Legion of Everblight army. As they are not "covered in armour" or Games Workshop. Sound logic to me! Here is a shot below of them, plus the compulsary workspace shot that this thread lacks... :D

Thagrosh will be done soon (as he's the only model i've really painted for them)

Updates to come!

17-01-2008, 04:00
Lookin' good man, I love the Daemonic legion and the Everblight stuff. I can't wait to see more.

17-01-2008, 04:13

The Apostle of War comes! :D

Love that model.

03-02-2008, 20:08
Well, updates! Remember those? :p Well i've been somewhat busy in these last 3 weeks (apparently)

The Scouts are now complete. It was an absolute chore to get them done as they do not fit in with my painting style. They're too "bitty".

Here's a army shot of everthing that is fully painted in the army up til this point. Now I can treat myself and paint up that Hellhammer that's been sitting on my desk for the last 4 or so months :)

03-02-2008, 20:19
Now i've also been painting this spiffy Great Unclean One for my Daemons, the "head" is from the whole body of that Helldorado guy you may have seen around (yes it was that small) and the backside is too....

This has earned him the nickname "Lickitung" (after the Pokemon) at my local store.

So some of you may be asking: "Where's the damned Everblight stuff then?" now there's a good reason for this as i'm waiting to see what these new foundation inks are all about before I continue with them (as they were going to be started again and dipped) as they appear to be relatively the same as a woodstain dip in terms of vicosity. (Told you it was a good reason).

So it's back to the Daemons as the Space Wolves are done, so much so you can stick a fork in them!

04-02-2008, 00:42
I normally do not like nurgle, but that GUO is amazing! I love the bitz usage.

07-02-2008, 21:29
Cheers for the comment Bluebugs. He's complete now. Though he may be relegated to a Daemon Prince if I get the FW GUO.

Though Grimtuff's gone and been a naughty boy, I *said* at the start of this log I was not going to buy anything until the vast majortiy of this stuff was painted. Best laid plans and all that.....

I've gone and bought a SW Battleforce (so, another 10 GH and 15 BC) and a huge Necron army second hand. The stuff in the Necron force I got will make them able to be Apocalypsized as well. Whilst it did set me back 210 it retails at 470! (Plus I had money from selling that Brass Scorpion and the World Eaters on eBay.)

Though this has not stopped me from having a burst of painting this week as i've now basecoated my Hellhammer (painted in Adeptus Mechanicus colours) and am ploughing through the 32 (new style) Plaguebearers, keep in mind this lot were not even undercoated until last night! So that's good going IMO.

07-02-2008, 21:33

Here's the Hellhammer, basecoated and ready for a little verdigris in places

Speaking of verdigris, this is yet another (WIP) Ushabti lord made from cannibalised bits from the aforementioned Necron army. When I was making him (and nicking the arms) I decided that this is my interpretation of the standard lord model, hence the same pose

CnC welcome as always.

*Oh, and no-one point out the obvious that there is a can of "Oust" behind those Plaguebearers! :D

10-02-2008, 18:51

Recipe on the niiiice plaguies?

11-02-2008, 19:41

The Plaguebearers are done. How i've painted 32 of them in 4 days i'll never know! I'll try and get a better shot in time, but here they are mixed in with the older ones and the rest of the stuff that is fully painted for the army.

I think i'll do the Daemon Prince next. :)

As for the colours:
Black undercoat
Goblin Green Basecoat
Drybrush of Rotting Flesh
Colour wash of Dark Flesh (though i've used Clathan Brown with a little Red Gore on these ones as i've ran out)
Pick out all details like eyes and weapons
Chestnut Ink wash

11-02-2008, 19:51
Great, thx man, this would work nicely fer my zombies :D

12-02-2008, 16:26
Great looking wolwes, especially the venerable dread.

Baneblades are always usefull and that mach vulcan . Those guns are bigger then some of my guards tanks.

And the ushabti lords must be the coolest necron things ever.

How many points is your Wolf/LOTD apoc force?

12-02-2008, 21:37
I've started work on the Daemon Prince and Herald BSB. Little story behind the DP. You may notice he's not like any other Gw models, as he's (almost) totally self sculpted.

He was in fact my first ever full sculpt, so even though my ability has progressed somewhat in the 4 and a 1/2 years since I made him he still holds a special place in my heart. After I dug him out and stripped him I decided to update him with new weapons, wings and better hands (I cannot sculpt hands!)

@Hakkapelli: it's somewhere in the region of 5000 to 6000pts, though i'm going to properly add it up soon. ;)

CnC welcome as always.

17-02-2008, 17:08
your DP is sick! :p

im loving your daemonic legion

21-02-2008, 11:44
Another update:

The Daemon Prince is finished, though you may notice a little change to him as I changed the eyes on him to some from the new Spawn kit as after painting them I felt they did not look that good (I can never sculpt eyes!) Ideally I would have done them like the GUO's eyes in a "mark of Nurgle style" but the sockets were not big enough.

Speaking of GUO's, putting him next to the DP, he does not look so "great" anymore, so rest assured i'm saving up for the Forgeworld one.

Here's another pic of my Plagueriders, they were (and still are) wet when I took this pic, so this is the best shot I can get for now ;)

29-02-2008, 20:10
Well, i've not updated this in a while....

The Plague Riders have been done for ages. Here's the completed pictures of them.

So now the only things left to do are the Chariot(s) Just got to wait for the Corpse Cart to be released.

I've been working on the biggy centrepiece for this army (before I can afford the FW GUO) a War Mammoth converted out of the LOTR Mumak.

It's obviously very very WIP and needs making furry, but hopefully updates for it will come in quite quickly as I plan to make it hair on monday.

CNC welcome as always.

Razor Devil
01-03-2008, 02:16
Whoa, nice elephant you got there, and I reckon you owe us another Nurgle pic including the DP. Any how, the GUO looks like it would fit in with the DP.

01-03-2008, 02:59
that elephant will rock! Also I love your plague riders, the faceless feel of it and all.

01-03-2008, 07:52
the plagueriders are fantastic

i can't wait to see how the mammoth comes along too

01-03-2008, 16:34
Cheers, the Mammoth will be worked on tomorrow hopefully as i'm going to get some teddy fur from an art shop and then cover it in PVA.

IIRC this was a technique in WD ages ago for doing a thatched roof, but it should look good as matted fur.

@Razor Devil: i'll get an army shot done later tonight. ;)

01-03-2008, 18:40
I love you Necrons colour scheme. Make them look ancient and worn like they should and works really well :D.
It's defiantly a change from the norm for necron colour schemes.

08-03-2008, 22:19
Update time!

Here's that (probably) long-awaited army shot of the completed Daemonic Legion (sans unpainted stuff, which is some more Nurglings and the BSB)
The thing I had been working on in the mean time was this Commander fro my LOTD army. I entered into a local painting comp and it didn't even place.

But i'll leave my thoughts on that off this forum.

The model was meant to be a exercise in movement and made from 100% plastic, which is unusual for me as I like my character figs to be metal. The chestplate was originally inspired by a fig that a user named Mudski did on CMON (http://www.coolminiornot.com/158173). Nobody seemed to like it on there, even though it screamed "40k" to me as it was a large superfluous chest eagle.

On with the pics...

08-03-2008, 22:22

As you can see there is a lot of dynamism going on with the flames helping to emphasise the direction of the model. Like I already said, the whole idea behind this was to be as overblown as possible. Hence the big chest piece, the flaming swords and the stupidly large sword guards.

CNC welcome as always

N.B. I already put this in a previous regarding my LOTD, but i'll say it again. The flash makes the model look a lot more "grey" than it is IRL. ;)

Whoa, pretty cool commander. I really like the flames and skulls on the shoulder plates. Not to mention the giant chess plate! I understand thag it's not practical, but it's just too cool to miss!

19-03-2008, 20:55
Well, i'm not gone (yet!) time for an update methinks.

Now the reason for the lack of updates will ironically soon be seen on this very log. I traded my Slannesh DE for a horde of Chaos Mortals. (40 Marauders, 40 Warriors, 10 Knights, 10 Hounds and various characters)

Here are the character figs

Here's my General. he's supposed to represent the old Nurgle special character Valnir the Reaper, yes I know Valnir had no mount in the old Champions of Chaos book, but heh, it was a cool fig. (BTW he was wet when I took this pic, hence the pooling of ink on the Flail)
Exalted Sorcerer and BSB
Sorcerers (more proof the Empire Wizards can be used for anything) :)

19-03-2008, 21:02

My Chosen Knights of Nurgle. I know what you're thinking. "Good lord, someone who actually models his Chosen Knights!" :p

The Mammoth. I've actually started putting the fur on it now. Unfortunately I could not find a plain fur colour so it looks like i've skinned a Muppet ATM. The first bits were covered in PVA to see if it would work and it looks promising. i'm going to wait until i'm on holiday from work to continue working on this.

Some more reinforcements fro my LOTD. All they needs is the barrels drilling on the other two then the painting can begin on them. I think it's obvious who they're meant to look like....

C&C welcome as always.

29-03-2008, 18:02
I like your stuff!
Your Nurgle deamons have a unique look and feel, way better than all those drybrushed green models....

Your Muppet-faunt-of-Doom made me laugh :)
Will you be painting the fur? I can't imagine that being easy.... Do have some special technique you're planning for that?

Keep up the good work!

The fur will be painted. I've experimented a little and covered it in PVA. This was initially from an article in WD on how to make thatched roofs of all things. The fur has dried somewhat rock solid (imagine your hair with a lot of hair gel in it for what it feels like ATM) Hopefully when it is sprayed it will harden up further with the paint.

Hopefully.... :p

I should be adding more pics later on, stay tuned folks.

13-04-2008, 22:07
Wow, check it out. It's an update! Yes I still do that!

Well i've been lacking a lot of motivation on the painting side of things, mainl;y due to looking at all those Nurgle models and thinking "I really do not want to do that paint scheme for a while again!"

With that in mind the only completed model as of today is my Chaos Lord.

To combat the monotony as it were i'm painting Space Wolves instead, as i've got an extra squad of Grey Hunters and Blood Claws to finish (though these also appear to be feeling the same effects as my Nurgle models.... the work has not been "progressive" on them shall we say)

I've also completed this fella. He's a HellDorado fig and he makes for a great Nurgle Herald. I completed him in a day as he's well, a pile of worms.

I'll update more frequently as my painting "momentum" increases (promise!)

16-04-2008, 20:52
Well time for another update as promised (apparently :p)

I've got the Chaos Sorcerers done.
Here's 5 Hounds (there's 5 more that are more or less identical. All 10 should be done by the end of tonight)
And finally my Sorcerer Lord, who seems to be taking forever to paint for some reason, all he needs is a little tidying and jobs a good un!
C&C welcome as always.

Great log. Your Nurgle stuff is amazing aswell as your Legion of the Damned Commander. Can't wait to see those bikers painted, they remind me of Ghost Rider. Subscribed.

21-04-2008, 20:15
Cheers for the replies guys!

Now i've been doing a little modelling today in the form of a "proper" GUO, who'll be used as Ku'gath in the new Daemon books. I *was* going to buy the FW one, but spurred on by my friends reassuring me about my green stuff "talents" (Modest? Me? No way! :p) that I can scratch build that one that has been this peach-colored bogroll and tinfoil snowman on my desk for the past 2 months.

Half a packet of green stuff later (plus some Spawn bits, that Tide of Spawn box goes for miles) and this is the result. Plaguebearer Barry is there for scale.

I'm hoping to get him ready for the release day.

C&C welcome as always. :)

Wow, just wow! Can't wait to see him painted, although, as it's Nurgle, I reckon it's already good enough, with the green representing decay and stuff...Are the white parts made of expanding foam?

22-04-2008, 19:07

They're made from (somewhat appropriatley) Toilet Paper soaked in PVA and under that is a big ball of tinfoil :)

23-04-2008, 00:49
Ahhh, so paper mache. (Or is that how you even spell it?) Nice work bro.

28-04-2008, 17:59
Well, Ku'gath is finally dry so he can have some more work done on him. In the meantime he's had a Palanquin built for him. It's still WIP, but you get the idea.
Aside from the fact he is mounted on one in WHFB it's so I can cheat a little and not have to do anything to it's back as emulating that really cool exposed spine on the FW one is far beyond my current abilities. ;)

I also painted this Logan Grimnar fig for my SW whilst the limbs were drying. Even though I really like my current Wolf Lord, i'm sure Grimnar will be tank hard(er) in the new codex than a "normal" choice, so it needed to be done. :p

C&C welcome as always.

*BTW, in case anyone's wondering what the 2 skull posts on the base are for, it is due to a Palanquin normally being on a 50x50mm base and the first Nurgle spell effecting everything in BTB.

29-04-2008, 19:52
Are you sure that a few people can lift that huge monster? Even if there were 50, no way!

They were his "chair legs" :p I'd just watched Colour of Magic when building the throne. I've now swapped them out for a big pile of Nurglings.

He's sprayed up now, (still no hands though. I may end up using some spare Heroclix Sentinel ones) I'll post pics later on tonight after i've had my tea. :)

29-04-2008, 21:47

Great stuff, somewhat ironic that he is made from toilet paper! I like the palanquin idea also. Make sure to add lots of slimy drool bits when you get round to it.

30-04-2008, 03:34
hehe good stuff. I like the way kugath is shaping up. I was gonna just proxy one of my GUO's as kugath until i realised that kugath was on a palanquin :( Anyway keep up the good work. Cant wait to see him completed. Btw what did you use for the palanquin?

Razor Devil
30-04-2008, 06:47
Oh, right, well since the picture wasn't taken from base level, I thought that the legs had bodies and heads and arms too. Make sure to include more pictures, your uber monster of sludge is looking good.

30-04-2008, 16:27

I've sprayed him now (just as a test to see if he all went together right) and changed legs on the Palanquin to Nurglings. Though i'm not sure if they're visible.

All that needs doing now is the green stuffing of the hands (and adding some Nurglings to the palm of the left one when my local store gets some more in.) As for the right one, what do you think I should put in it. I'm either thinking a sack full of Nurglings or a dirty great sword.

30-04-2008, 21:35

He's now complete. The green stuff still needs to dry a few bits and bobs need tidying up, but he's just about ready for a lick of paint. :)

Here's the detail of the "Nurgling Bomb" he's looking at with some kind of fatherly love.... I've made it so it has a huge distended belly, filled with some kind of toxic concoction.

C&C welcome as always.

Razor Devil
01-05-2008, 06:22
Wow, cool. I love it. I actually think you shouldn't paint the purple, cos it gives it a uniqueness, and purple can be dirty and grimy right?

01-05-2008, 22:13
I may have to consider the purple, it's not one of my "regular" Nurgle colours but give it a few grimy washes round the hands and he'll look just right.

I've now started to paint him, as you can see much of the details that were probably not aparrent in the previous shots can be seen, such as the exposed skull and brain infested with maggots in the second pic  ;)

01-05-2008, 22:17
Also here's some shots of the Palanquin itself. He will be eventually glued to it, but they're seperate ATM for ease of painting.

I went for a much deeper rust colouration on here than I normally do. This was a sort of experiment if you will, but I think it turned out okay :)

The mix was Scorched Brown then 50/50 Dark Flesh+Foundation orange, Chainmail if anyone's interested.

C&C welcome as always.

03-05-2008, 06:06

09-05-2008, 19:57
I'm back baby!

Ku'gath actually got finished last Sunday but I didn't have time to upload him.

Cheers. That's the stock model of Epidemius, nothing was changed on it at all.

I've also just noticed on Ku'gath the blotches on his sword look quite apparent due to the flash, IRL these are all but invisible.

Razor Devil
11-05-2008, 01:29
Yeah, but the blotches still make it look good because it's all "unclean and untidy" and stuff.

11-05-2008, 13:16
Time for another update. With my Daemons (temporarily) finished i'm going back to my Space Wolves for a short while. Mainly due to making these bad boys last night from some of the random assortment of stuff I won 2 weeks ago at WHFB's 25th.

First up is an Inquisitor with a Null Rod, he's useful asgainst pesky Harlequins and Lashers and looks Space Wolfy as he's made from Ar-Ulric.

Now for the biggy, I have absolutley no idea what to use these as in "normal" 40k except as Dreadnoughts. Apocalypse is a different matter altogether.....

Bear-riffic aren't they?

C&C welcome as always.

Maybe you can use the bear-hounds in apocalypse as krootox, and in normal 40k, only if your opponent agrees, as krootox as well. Oh yeah, they look great, but perhaps you could make the gun stand look more like a big saddle or something, because I don't think they'd just stick a metal slab onto a wolf.

12-05-2008, 16:40

Cheers. Krootoxen seem a little too "weak" to represent them faithfully in 40k, I may have to take a look at the Creature Feature from ages ago which I have a PDF of.

BTW, it might be hard to see from the pics but there is already a large saddle on the stock fig. You can see bits of it poking out from under the gun carriage. You'll probably be able to see it better when I put on some WIP painting pics later on ;)

13-05-2008, 08:16
Do you bought two tzar boris or you were able to find the bears alone? If is the second option tell me how you do ir, because I want just the bear and I have never found it.

Hopefully when the bitz range returns as will Boris' Bear.

18-05-2008, 10:47
So, will it be easier to see the saddle after the model is painted?

As you can see it is. I've waited until I got one of them fully painted before doing this update (mainly so I could see how they looked myself as well!) Painting this though made me find out a lot about Polar Bears though, asI had to look up pictures of them and their anatomy*

*Okay, I took a *little* bit of artistic licence on the tongue, as a Polar Bear's is black but when painted you could see nothing, so I settled for a dark purple (which was then washed with black)

I also learnt that Dheneb Stone foundation paint make for great Polar Bear fur oddly..... Make of that what you will.

C&C welcome as always.

EDIT: Yes, I have just noticed all those little blemishes my eyes didn't pick up (mainly in the last pic) They're getting fixed right now!

What bits did you use for the palanquin? Although mine is only the GW sized GUO, that palanquin could easily be trimmed down to size.

The core of it is the modular movement trays ;) Though any Plasticard will do.

25-05-2008, 09:54
the bear things are great, although i don't think you should use them as dreadnaughts (don't you have 4 already?). maybe use them as imperial gaurd rough riders? even though the guard don't have power armour

25-05-2008, 09:57
Or, you know, Attack Bikes? :p They really are very awesome.

25-05-2008, 11:25
Or, you know, Attack Bikes? :p They really are very awesome.

I think I will use them as Attack Bikes in normal 40k. 2W and a 3+ save with T5 and the ability to move up to 12" (Bears are pretty damn fast, though I won't use Turbo Boosting :p) seems somewhat perfect for them.

25-05-2008, 16:55
Well it's finally time for another update!

I've got both the other Bear-rider and the Inquisitor done (TBH both were done last week but i've only just got around to taking pics of them. Such is life.)

Here's a shot of both of them ready to stomp stuff in the name of the Emperor!

25-05-2008, 16:59
I've also finally gotten around to painting those LOTD bikers (remember those?)

Here's a WIP.

After i've done trhese though I think another "epic" undertaking is in order (see what I did there?)

I sprayed up my LATD's Nurgle Warlord Titan.

He was going to be an Imperator once upon a time, but I couldn't figure out where to put all the guns! So I converted him properly into a big Daemonically possessed centerpiece fig.

Whoa, nice. I haven't been here for a while but the painted guys look great and the titan looks promising as well.

24-06-2008, 13:28
Well i've not done an update in a good month.... Mainly down to the fact i'm in the process of moving house (1 week today. WOOT!) the vast majority of my figs are packed up.

Initially I was quite disenheartened with 5th ed. 40k (another reason for the lack of updates) but after playing a few games of it, as long as I avoid the arses that I normally avoid it will be okay. So my Iron Priest needed a new toy, even if he won't get it in the SW dex, he'll wheel it out for Apocalypse.

So without further ado, here's my kitbashed Thunderfire Cannon.

I'm going to be updating this with more regularity, as the next lot off stuff i'm going to paint is my Khador for Warmachine, but they're not being photogenic ATM, so i'll try to take some less shadowy pictures of them later tonight. The aim, much like the Daemons is to try and get a good chunk, if not all of what I have painted for the Legends release in August.

C&C welcome as always.

28-06-2008, 23:56
that cannon looks almost like the proper thing...

23-07-2008, 15:37
Well, i've moved into my new house so now the updates can recommence! (Huzzah!)

Remember that Macharius turret made from Lego bits on page 3? Well I decided that my SW needed a nice Superheavy. Enter a modified Fellblade with a Vulcan Mega Bolter armament. (BTW, I am aware of the Stormlord. I built and painted this before I even looked in Apocalypse: Reload)

Well, here it is complete and made to look more "Space Marine-ey"

dam that tank came out cool i remember seeing that when you started earlier in you log. Good job.

25-08-2008, 21:45
Well. it finally happened. I'm actually updating my plog!

I've decided to actually take a dip into Orks again, to paraphrase one Peter Cullen (redoing Orks is like) "slipping into an old pair of very comfortable shoes that you haven't worn for a while" (yes, it was actually about him reprising his role as Optimus Prime, but I felt it fitted!)

Here's the top guy, my namesake, Grimtuff Fingduffa.
3 converted Skorchas, based on some that Irondog made and the ones in DOW.
My Deffdread, yes it does (apparently) work by spinning around and smacking the hell out of things with 4 wrecking balls! Physics? Pah! We iz Orkses!

25-08-2008, 21:58
Now we've got some pics of Grimtuff's ride.

Da Krushenator! His personal Battlewagon.

And the last thing many a trooper will see!

06-09-2008, 21:23
Update time!

Well i've been bimbling away at my Orks, TBH i'm procrastinating till I can get my hands on AOBR tomorrow (damn work).

During the time between updates I had a big dig in my bits box and came out with 30 of the 2nd editon Gretchin (yay for taking objectives! ;)) and enough parts to make these:

So now we have a Lobba battery.

These are what the basic boyz look like ATM. They're all stock figures, so nothing interesting is going on with them. I'll take more shots when they're all done.

06-09-2008, 21:28
As I said, with my Orks I was bimbling around, so much so I picked up that Balrog fig I won at WHFB's 25th birthday ages ago and had a crack at making my version of Skarbrand (he will become a head of a whole army eventually).

The axes are Netheraxes from Heresy Miniatures, note how I used the whip for Skarbrand's tail, as: "For eight days and nights Skarbrand blazed a trail of fiery destruction across the realms of the gods...". WHFB conspiracies commence!

21-09-2008, 15:11
Well it's time for a massive update!

First off we have my Biker Warboss.

And the compulsary scale shot. Yes he is that big!

21-09-2008, 15:11
As you may be able to tell i've drastically changed the way the flesh is done on the Orks. This is mainly due to me looking at them and thinking they looked far to "cartoony" in the method I was doing it before. The end product appears to be more or less like Lemmingspawn's method, which is a good thing.

Below we have another Warboss: Commissar Yark!
WIP Kommandos
WIP Flash Gitz

21-09-2008, 15:12
Damn image limit.

More WIP Flash Gitz.

Now for a "piece die resistance" as it were. I've been tinkering with this for a while but after buying a second Battleforce and having no use for the Trukk this WIP could begin anew.
A flash of inspiration struck and i've decided to make a Mekboy Speedsta Dragsta. This will mainly be an Apocalypse unit but I can double it up as a Battlewagon (Battlewagons do not go fast enough see?)

C&C welcome as always.

22-09-2008, 17:53
Biker Boss is done. The ink washes are not as stark IRL, but they really showing up more than I expected with the flash on.

Also, here's a WIP of Old Zogwort, for some reason i've decided to paint his fasce like the Joker's. Kindof brings out the fact that this guy is nuttier than a Squirrel's ****. :p

C&C welcome as always.

23-09-2008, 10:18
Your orcs look very good, any change of a picture of them all together?

23-09-2008, 17:00
I'm going to take one later tonight. There's close to 200 models in the army, so it takes a while to set up. ;)

23-09-2008, 20:50
Here's a shot of the whole force so far in it's various stages of painting. Told you it was big! :p

24-09-2008, 16:14

16-10-2008, 19:46
Arise my thread! Arise!

*In performing threadromancy Grimtuff inadvertantly summons a Greater Daemon*

Yes, Skarbrand is complete. I've been working on more of my Orks as well, but seeing as my local store seems to have run out of Mechrite Red and Badab Black somewhat indefinetley I can only get so far.

C&C welcome as always.

16-10-2008, 20:19
Ok - I love that skabrand - its something special :D

21-10-2008, 08:43

21-10-2008, 17:29
Scarbrand looks awesome, I may make one with wings for a basic blood thirster as the current looks like poo.

22-10-2008, 23:43

It's made from a Sentinel and standard Dreadnought's torso turned 90 degrees. The head is from the old Khorne Juggernaught and the right arm is the metal Furioso one. ;)

23-10-2008, 18:26
Fantastic job on that Skarbrand. Out of curiousity, what did you use to make the trike for your Ork Warboss? Half tempted to try to do that myself because your one is so awesome.

There's a "normal" Warbike underneath all of it. The petrol tank is made from a Robogear bit and the seat is mad from a cut down Sentinel cockpit.

I was emulating this one I made earlier but later gave away to a local Ork player when I did not play them. :o

Hop ethat helps! ;)

Thanks, that should help a lot. So what's next up for the orks?

24-10-2008, 10:38
that Skarbrand model is AMAZING. great work
im also glad that someone cut up a black reach boss and put him on a bike; i needed confirmation that that was going to work. are the legs just regular biker legs?

24-10-2008, 10:53
Cool stuff! I really like your Skarbrand conversion!

24-10-2008, 19:45
are the legs just regular biker legs?

They're the AOBR Warboss' legs as well above the knee and the boots. The lower legs are Green Stuff. ;)

24-10-2008, 20:10
Hmm that would explain a few things. I chopped up my AoBR Warboss last night and was testing out a few things with bluetac and the hardest part I'm having is getting the right arm to hold the handle bars at an accurate angle plus having enough distance between the handle bars and the Warboss's head. Any hints or suggestions?

I *really* should have taken some pics before I sprayed him...! :o

For the legs I cut off the sash (obviously) and chopped into them a little, but I realised they would not sit right so they need to be chopped off at the knee, but keeping the boots and gluing them on to the foot rests so I could line up the legs.

The arm is cut in much the same manner. With it being cut and the hand being chopped off completely so I can rotate it at will.

There's a fair bit of jiggery pokery involved to get him to fit, but it works! :p

If you want me to take pics from other angles to get a better look at construction etc. just say so. ;)

24-10-2008, 23:18
If you want me to take pics from other angles to get a better look at construction etc. just say so. ;) Some more photos would be a big help. :) A top down (sort of aerial) shot would be much appreciated, a head on shot and one from behind could also be useful.

Apologies for the lack of updates. My camera broke (let this be a lesson never drop your Digicam down a flight of stairs! :o)

Anyway, to kick things off here's those pics you requested.

06-11-2008, 19:41
Here's the Battlewagon 100% complete*

*I say "100% complete", but it does not "feel" completed to me for soe reason. Any suggestions?

06-11-2008, 19:44
I've been a busy little bugger whilst i've been away!

Here's the Flash Gitz complete.

And 2 mobs of Shoota Boyz (the other 10 for each mob are nearing completion right now)

06-11-2008, 19:49
And to end we have a preview of what may be my next project (this model, hell, even the whole army may be a complete bitz box rummage)

He's a Prince of Obliteration (please, type it out in full. Don't use the acronym. ;)) from the Tempus Fugitives (http://www.tempusfugitives.co.uk/) Dark Mechanicus list. :)

The list is sadly not on their site ATM as they're moving servers IIRC, but it should be back on there soon.

C&C welcome as always.

06-11-2008, 19:53
That battlewagon is MASSIVE! The Flash Gitz lok mighty cool, and I really dig your Commisar Yark from the previous page. Skarbrand is impressive too.
As for suggestions on how to pimp your drive - how about some pipes jutting out at random places and chains hanging from the side. And the random grot climbing around or just holding on for his life?

The gore/blood splatter is great BTW!

06-11-2008, 21:30
The prince of Obliteration looks ace, what's the base model. Inquisitor range?

06-11-2008, 21:56

Yeah, there's an Artemis under there. ;)

Whoa, haven't been on this thread for a while but I have to agree, the battlewagon is huge! Although, it doesn't make sense how the roller has blood splatter on the front of it rather than all around. Remember, the roller rolls, so it should have equal blood coverage everywhere. Apart, from that, I gotta say that everything looks fantastic.

08-11-2008, 19:36

True, I imagined when painting it (and after a few games) that it wouldn't hit many troops dead on (i.e. running over them fully and leaving them pancake-flat like Looney Tunes ;)) and most got somewhat horrifically glanced by it, or those that did get a face full of Deffrolla would be flung off.

Rest assured blood splatters will be going around the all of it, it will just be less prominent in places as I seem to have backed myself into a corner with it. :p ;)

20-12-2008, 19:40
Well, it seems i've not posted in this log for ages.

But don't fear i've been busy.

First up we have a conversion of Skulltaker on a Juggernaut. In fact, I have never seen this conversion actually done on the Internet so I like to think i'm the first here.

The models cloak was hacksawed between his legs so he would fit on the Juggernaut. When glued in place a blob of green stuff was added and all of the collective Skulls from 4 Bloodcrusher kits were pushed into it.

Simple really.

Grimtuff 1-0 Skulltaker. :p

20-12-2008, 19:43
A few more WIP Khorne Daemons.

Bloodcrushers. I modded these with some plastic Bloodletter parts and reposing of the Juggernauts (mainly via scenery).
Bloodletters. Nothing special here, as there's 30 of them.

Note I sold the Nurgle WOC to get these after the absolute shambles they did on the WOC book IMO, but we all know the threads on them. ;)

C&C welcome as always.

04-01-2009, 20:50
Time for another update.

My Daemons need a kick up the backside as i'm using them in a tournament at my local club at the end of the month so they need to be fully painted for this.

So, fresh off the chopping block we have the Bloodcrushers and the Soul Grinder. You may remember the latter from earlier in this thread as a Nurgle Warlord Titan for Epic, but I don't like the SG model and this one fits the bill perfectly IMO as it is a combined Khorne/Nurgle force. ;)

Lastly we have one of the two Daemon Princes for the tournament force (The other will be the "normal" GUO from my Nurgle Daemons). As you can see it was a bitz box rummage. The model is a stock Shaggoth with a new head. The head is part of the one of the beasties on the sides of the TK Screaming Skull Catapult.

04-01-2009, 20:55
We're not done yet!

Yesterday I got my mail order in and was able to do the Skulltaker in Chariot conversion.

Here he is before spraying.

Also I decided to knock up these 3 guys from the remaining 3 Knights. I'm going to count them as Fiends of Slaanesh (in the regular army eventually the Plaguebearers will be subbed with WOC Chosen models, I call them "Goreforgers"). These are called "Charnel Knights". They still need a good going over with a knife BTW.

C&C welcome as always.

05-01-2009, 18:48
Some of these Daemons are superb in my humble opinion, I remove my hat for you sir.

06-01-2009, 05:50
That Skulltaker conversion on is Juggernaut excellent, great job on that one, the chariot one is suitably dynamic too. I also love the movement you have added to the Bloodcrushers and the simple brass scheme on the Juggers themselves works really well. Top stuff.
What is your recipe for your bronze?
I will now pop off to view the other 8 pages of the log. Edit-Commisar Yark is sublime and the Baneblade conversion is immense. It is also nice to see the progression in your painting and converting ability, lord knows what you will be able to produce in a few months time.

Thankyou. :)

The recipe is simply two coats Brazen Brass, a wash of Vallejo Sepia wash and finally a wash of Badab Black.

Simple ones are the best. ;)

09-01-2009, 11:13
Just got to say it man, some of those conversions are incredible!

22-01-2009, 02:13
I love your stuff especially Skarbrand. It looks like how I envision the model. I question.....where did you get the axes?

I look forward to all your updated and conversions.

Heresy Miniatures. (http://www.heresyminiatures.com/images/pages/hw002.htm) ;)

Which reminds me. I really should update this log. Expect updates later tonight! :)

22-01-2009, 17:42
Thanks. I just found them earlier today. I look forward to your updates.

23-01-2009, 21:22
Well, being the example of punctuality that I am....

Here's the update:
Daemon Prince is complete. I did this fig in a day and am suprised how well it came out.

Charnel Knights, these only got finished today. Tournaments are such a great motivator! (I need them for tomorrow!)

And some PIP pics of Skulltaker in Chariot.

C&C welcome as always.

23-01-2009, 23:44
Dude wow these conversions/paint jobs are amazing :O I have a question... what would you recommend for a final necron wash/ink i'm looking for something to make them look weathered and to bring out the edges.

paint scheme is bolt gun over scorpion green with lich purple shoulders and white ceramics for the joints and head with red markings... oh and the raised gold chest symbol over purple

25-01-2009, 15:40
Those look great....I am really impressed. I do most of my best painting too under deadlines.

I enjoy your updates and would love to hear how you tournament went.

26-01-2009, 03:23
awesome conversions man, those demon knights are beautiful. I am amazed by these.

Now for an update!

Chariot mounted Skulltaker is done (just finished him a few minutes ago!)

C&C welcome as always.

27-01-2009, 01:40
Again, I love your stuff. The chariot looks great as does skull taker. The base is very nices as well. What armies did you play against?

27-01-2009, 23:38
Again, I love your stuff. The chariot looks great as does skull taker. The base is very nices as well. What armies did you play against?

SM Sternguard Spam, Eldar and Bog standard SM. Turns out I won best army as well apparently... I had to leave early so only found out today. I've got me a framed certificate to pick up. :D

Right, time for a minor update too:

I've just finished these Tomb Spyders for my Necrons. They were a nice break from painting many many Daemons (okay, that's a lie, not many needed to be painted!) and were inspired by another Necron army log on this very forum where the user who's name totally escapes me ATM (i'll find his log and edit it in.) made the a TS like this.

27-01-2009, 23:41
Also, I have a tester for the Flesh Hound as it were.

I've made a collar for him out of green stuff and i'm looking for opinions on it to see if it looks the part before I go ahead on the other 9. :)

As you can see it's just green stuff and plastic dowel. You'll notice I don;t like the tails on the Chaos hounds either. :p

C&C welcome as always

05-02-2009, 21:13
Update time!

I decided to go with the tester for the Flesh Hounds. Here is a prepaint shot of the whole unit.

And a WIP one. For some reason all the pics came out crap (must be the Collars of Khorne interfering ;)) Here was the best of a bad bunch, i'll retake some later.

Also the fur on the more complete ones is not purple as it looks in the pics, it painted in the same way as Skarbrand's and the Daemon Prince's

Finally i've been working on a Soulgrinder for the army. Normally I never really took as shine to the SG model (and the Defiler that preceded it) mainly due to transportation issues, though this still is the case somewhat I bit the bullet and bought one to convert up.

Here he is roaring triumphantly over some mauled Space Wolves!

05-02-2009, 21:16
More of the Soulgrinder.

A better shot of the pos he is in, and the casualties under his legs, though one has one last surprise for him!

Better shot of him.

Side shot of the SG, some Chaos interference on this too. I've added a few Corpse Cart Braziers to give it a more archaic and "powered by weirdness" look to it.

Detail of the base. I'm going to paint the base seperately and first for a change as this is now effectively a mini diorama. The green stuff still needs smoothing out on it, but I have to wait for that to dry first.

C&C welcome as always.

05-02-2009, 23:42
very nice scorpion looks very cool =)

14-02-2009, 20:45
Time for another update.

Here's some WIP pics of the Soulgrinder and the base. The fig seems to be taking forever to paint, but having said that it is an absolute joy at the same time.

And many a smashed Space Wolf.

C&C welcome as always.

05-03-2009, 19:24
Update Time!

Here's some completed pics of the Soul Grinder now glued to its base

05-03-2009, 19:27
Now a WIP shot of the unit of Goreforgers (count as Plaguebearers). This shot was taken a few days ago now and they are on the verge of being completed.

I'm intending to have 2 units of 10 (hence the 2 Musicians in this unit) I just need to find the cash for 6 more.

Enjoy! :)

11-03-2009, 10:35
Goreforgers are now done:

Paint scheme is the same as the rest of the Daemon army, these Chosen figs may be lovely models but they are a pain in the backside to paint. :p

11-03-2009, 10:38
I've also been messing around with my Orks again and I felt they needed the trusty "10 Burnas in a Looted Wagon with Skorcha" combo. ;)

Here's the pre paint shots of the Looted Wagon I knocked up last night.

Just got to work out how to do the Burnas via a bitz box dive too!

C&C welcome as always.

11-03-2009, 12:17
Thats a great wagon! You incorperated the Rhino parts really well, I think it sums up how an Ork Mek boy would look at using an Imperial vehicle really well!

Chop and weld!

12-03-2009, 01:48
This is one helluva log, Grim! The demon conversions take the cake for me, with Skarbrand in first place and the shaggoth in second (such a simple convo, love it). Great paint too, on some madcap construction. The mekboy speedsta deserves special props as well :D

- Salvage

12-03-2009, 23:24
Cheers for the comments guys!

The Looted Wagon is now complete

I've noticed a few bits I need to tidy up that my eye's have missed, also it appears the spray didn't reach a few places as the flash shows on the rear shot, though this cannot be seen IRL.

12-03-2009, 23:30
In a flash of Orky modelling I also finished off the Skorcha Wartrakks.

I also decided to build a Super Heavy for my Daemons. Enter a very very WIP Cauldron of Blood.

You may recognise this model as a Hellhammer earlier in the thread. Well, it had been sitting on my desk for so long as a WIP (heck, I don't even play IG and my SM have a SH made for them) I decided to give it a better home.

I've run out of skulls to fill in the other side where the sponsons used to be. PM me if you have the old VC (or current TK) skellies and have many a spare skull.

Same goes for the Chaos icons on the wheels. I need 10 more.

Thanks in advance. Also, C&C welcome as always. :)

13-03-2009, 14:00
I've just read through your log and whoa, do you have a lot of projects going on. You're doing a good job though, so keep up the good work :D. I too am running the anarchic "10 burnas in a looted wagon with skorcha" unit in my ork army, and i must say that's a very spiffy looted wagon, with an extremely "mek" mentality. The Skorcha Wartrakks also look much better than the regular GW ones, nice job

13-03-2009, 14:08
Consider that Looted Wagon idea well and truly er... looted for my own '10 burnas in a looted wagon' combo. :D

13-03-2009, 21:23
Cheers for the comments guys! I've just looked through your own log Melchor, i may have to return the looting favour with the Trukk in there (though you say you looted it in the first place anyway. :p)

Here are the Burnas in question:

I got them done yesterday but black undercoated models do not make for good pictures! So I waited till they got a small lick of paint on them.

14-03-2009, 00:33
Just loot away man!
The great thing about an idea is that when you steal it, it makes two ideas... Or something like that anyway. :D

14-03-2009, 11:19
Really impressive Ork stuff Grimtuff!
I'm particuarly fond of the wagon and the skorcha trakks :)

The khorne baneblade looks fantastic too.

13-04-2009, 21:52
Update time (about time too!)

I've been busy whilst i've not been updating this plog.

Here's a WIP of my count as Snikrot.

And the completed Kommandos

and finally a WIP of a Nob Biker made from a Deffcopta.

13-04-2009, 21:55
and more!

On one of my many trips to Poundland (okay a guy on Dakka gave us UK Ork players a heads up about this!) there was a Biplane that is easily the skeleton for an Ork Fighta. I went and bought 2 of them.

So we have a WIP of "Da Red Baron" (the other's called "Squiggles") as soon as the local model shop gets some plastic dowel in I can continue on them.

and some more Wraiths for my Necrons.

01-05-2009, 15:02
Time for an update.

I've built a new DP out of the DE Hydra and the leftover bits from the Juggernaught Lord that did not end up elsewhere. This is me interpretation of Arbaal the Undefeated, who now serves Khorne for enternity as a Goreforger Captain.

Here's the WIP shots

Though having said this, you will not see him getting fully painted for a while. I reached a point of burnout with my painting, then I realised why. All of the armies I have painted are in hot colours. I needed to change my pallet for a breath of fresh air.

Step forward my much-neglected Legion of Everblight. I've resprayed them all and knocked the Angelius below up in one night (the base and tidying up are now done). It is such a drastic change from my usual colour schemes that it's reinvigorated me to paint. :)

C&C welcome as always.

08-05-2009, 11:37
I should look in poundland more often. The plane makes a brilalint ork plane.

Your soulgrinder also looks great. I love the scenic base you did with it and the detail. Great bronze effect also. Keep the good work up :D

08-05-2009, 12:18
I have been through your log and this is my first post here, so here are some thoughts:
1. you`ve got great conversion skills
2. really great conversions :)
3. lots of ideas are in your minis
4. the are very dynamic
5. painting is at lower level, minis look very flat. They seem to be painted with basic colours and then only washed with one paint (Ork Kommandos or Necrons). More contrast could do the job, for example extreme highlights on the edges of the Looted Wagon?

I wish I had such an imagination with conversions :cries:

That Daemonic Steed from the Hydra is awesome, i was thinking of doing something similar for myself, but i didn't get a scale picture and didn't want to risk 25.

Your Orks look awesome, especially the Kommando with the grappling hook.

Thanks. :)

The steed idea was shamelessly stolen from when I read your post about it and thought "That's a good idea actually. Yoink!" ;)

@sea.man: I know, my painting has never been a strong point. I like to get up to gaming standard and it satisfies me. If they look good as an army then that's what counts IMO. Though more complex painting has its merits, it's not for me and though i've tried it I want to get stuff painted for the tabletop, as this is what interests me more about the hobby. ;)

I'll update a bit later (after South Park!) :p

11-05-2009, 19:21
Liking the cauldron of blood
Though i think it would look a bit better if the Blood Bowl was sunk into the hull a bit, instead of sitting on top

Liking the cauldron of blood
Though i think it would look a bit better if the Blood Bowl was sunk into the hull a bit, instead of sitting on top

It will be when I get round to doing a bit more plasticard work on it to make the silhouette of it look less "Baneblade-y" and more of a unique Daemon tank. ;)

11-05-2009, 22:44
May as well update the plog whilst i'm here. :p

Here's the completed shots of the Angelius. Pertinent viewers will notice that it stands about an inch taller than the standard model as i've added more body with green stuff. Mainly because when I got it out of the box it looked to wimpy in stature to be a heavy Warbeast.

And my first Warlock for them in the form of Vayl.

This log is awesome! I just looked through it all! You need to share your conversions with the rest us! You have too many!

16-06-2009, 23:13
Very well, and my friends and brother calls me insanely creative in any possible way!

Are you sure that you are not, in fact, four persons?

You, sir, are an outright genius! The tempo you keeps with feeding us just more and more of these jolly masterpieces is unbelievable to begin with! But the models themselves... Simply awesome.

Can't wait to see our Necron flyers done in the future!

09-08-2009, 21:22
Well, it is about time I actually updated this log. Recently in the last month i've had a bit of a burst of painting after a major lull. Here's the start of my Slaaneshi Daemons.

Daemon Prince 1:

Daemon Prince 2:

Sunderserpents (Tzeentch Flamers):

Soul Grinder, this was made to look like a giant Mecha Fiend

The Masque:

Herald on Steed:

Now, anyone remember the Mekboy Dragsta from waaaay earlier in the log? Well i've finally painted it up. It does need a little bit of tidying up as I needed it for a racing game down the store, but here it is.

09-08-2009, 23:45
You've got quite a lot of nice things going on in this thread. :)
I found it a while ago, but didn't want to threadomance it. ;) I like the use of the fantasy chaos figures, and that you found a use for the chariot crew.

10-08-2009, 23:21
A few pages back but I love your dreadnought,

And commissar Yark is my favourite ever greenskin!

15-07-2010, 21:16
Whats that sound? WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH! A distinctive blue box appears and rips some kind of timey wimey hole and resurrects an ancient evil. Okay, just my plog. :P

Well, i've been gone a while, mainly as Warseer's restructuring of the project logs mmade it impossible to navigate. I'm not even sure if this is in the right place...

Anyways. I've been somewhat busy.

Here are the aforementioned gang of Time Lords:
And their backs. He's got tweed!

I've updated my SW to fit the new codex. Here's some TWC.

Well due to my absence we've skipped a little bit in the history of these models as the riders may look a little familiar. Remember the Polar Bears from way back in the plog? They got converted to be Thunderbears with these guys on the back in place of the Heavy Bolters, but I always wanted to have them on "proper" wolves, thus they got upgraded a couple of months ago.

03-09-2010, 16:53
What he's failing to mention about that huge warboss on bike,is that he charged a squad of radical deamonhunter inquistors and he died a horrible death!!!!,should have seen his face........definatley made my day,eh dave????

btw,my 40k army is in the post so should be able to have a game soon (ish)

08-09-2010, 10:54
I really like your fiend shaped soul grinder, excellent use of bits and looks very dynamic.

12-10-2010, 16:54
Time for another resurrection. I really should be more punctual in my postings here....

Anyways, I created a fully converted Death Guard army over the summer for the GW "Summer of War" thingy. The whole army was made for free from my bits box and various other sources. :)

Thankyou, (I think!). I'll presume it's something to do with The Big Lebowski.

I think i'll take some more pics of Bile as those don't seem to capture the spidery chirurgeon like looking at him IRL does. :)

Holy sh...

That's the most impressive Tau army I've seen. It almost makes me want one :o

The suits are glorious - especially the Havoc. Well done.

Time for a little update methinks...

I've recently completed a unit of TWC using the very sexy Wolfpack models from Masquerade minis (http://www.masq-mini.com/artikeldetails.php?aid=202&sprache=2). The models are gorgegeous and super detailed (so much so they're all anatomically correct and all boys(!))

Without further ado:

I'm not entirely happy with the rider's faces, especially under the uber-scrutiny of a digicam. I may have to redo them. They look okay IRL, but it's a little thing that bugging me.

Speaking of things bugging me, it's time to ramp up my move away from GW (see how I linked that there?) for the forseeable future. so i've been chugging through my Warmachine collection at a rate of knots since i've (finally) found a suitable replacement for Chestnut Ink. To whet your appetites here is everything I have fully painted ATM.

Stay tuned as there is a fair bit more reinforments for the Motherland on my painting table!
