View Full Version : Bringing the grit back to 40k and whfb

14-11-2007, 11:09
Well itīs time for me to start (another) blog to show my stuff and get some help from the painters on this forum.

So what will I show here? Mainly my two armys:

*40k Plauge marines
My first army was a death guard one and since that Iīve been in love with these guys. This is my third attempt to make a good looking death guard inspired army and I hope it turns out well.

*Fantasy, Orc and goblins
My second whfb army. The army is lustria themed and I have joined a Tale of .... blog that has a goal on producing 200pts every month... I hope I can keep that pace up.

*Commisons: ATM I have some trollbloods that has to get done so Iīll show some pics when they are finished.

Well as a painter I like the gritty and grimey stuff 40k and fantasy ainīt no hoddely doddley funny place to be so no bright pink and white high elves from me :P

First some O&G stuff
Black orc Big Boss Battel Standard Bearer (BOBBBSB?!?!?)
Spider riders

2 test minis for my revival of the Death guard

Well thatīs all for now, Iīll try and update this as offent as possible with better pics and better painting ;)
C&C welcome thanks for looking

14-11-2007, 11:39
Now tryed to fix some pics.... how about this?

14-11-2007, 13:25
nice! i really like the DG scheme. and, if i may ask, what is the diorama base for?

14-11-2007, 14:06

14-11-2007, 14:40
That new spawn is awesome, so is the first one you did... but that new one is just so cool!! :D

14-11-2007, 17:36
3vilX: Thanks, glad you like the scheme. The dioarama base will be my background when I take pics for 40k.

Merceus: I agree :skull:

14-11-2007, 17:49
Now this spawn looks as intimidating as a mean chaos spawn should look like!!!
Good job there.

14-11-2007, 18:36
Lovely stuff as always Animerik, can remember the previous incarnations form Deathguard.org

Looking forward to more updates.

14-11-2007, 21:00
'Grit' on a stick mate.

That Spawn (in post 2) is absolutely wonderful.

14-11-2007, 21:02
Agreed with Harry; that spawn you;ve sculpted/converted is just stunning; consider me very subscribed :D

14-11-2007, 21:06
Erik, I don't think people arround here truly get how big that Bigboss is, I think you need to post a size comparison of a normal Orc... and throw in the Gorger-based Spawn in the pic as well :p Lovely as always though.

We missed you at Spel today

14-11-2007, 21:22
the first spawn looks very resident evil 4, well done

16-11-2007, 20:47
the first spawn looks very resident evil 4, well done

I thought the same thing when I saw it. Super well done - those talons from the back are awesome.

Mr Feral
16-11-2007, 20:53
Very nice.
The spawn are inspirational, so keep the standard up.
Consider me subscribed.

16-11-2007, 21:03
I am truly in love with your new Spawn model!! It works really well! Keep up!!

16-11-2007, 23:16
I thought the same thing when I saw it. Super well done - those talons from the back are awesome.
i think it's because the head looks like the dude with the claws (sorry if a little off topic) nice suff though (y)

17-11-2007, 13:47
the gs on the spawn is great. keep it up

vampires are cool!
17-11-2007, 13:56
As ever i feel my blood boil with envy. A fantastic job on all concerned. Incidentally, just an off the top of my head thought - do the skaven globarder back packs fit onto the plague marine models?

23-11-2007, 16:49
Of course I'm looking forward to seeing more stuff from you. :)

23-11-2007, 21:02
Some really good looking stuff.

24-11-2007, 01:20
now i want to see this BOBBBSB next to a normal orc for size comparison..

25-01-2008, 12:30
well better show this is not dead (anymore) !

So what have I been up to? Well I moved to a new appartment during the holidays so not much have been done but some. Santa was nice this year and got me a baneblade! So Iīm back and working on my Khornate armoured company "Legio Soilbleed" with this baneblade to be my centerpice. I order plastic cart and some FW militia symbols so work is going slow atm but I have it all planned up so far. Hereīs the blade so far I think I will call it "The agonizer" since I will add speakers at the back of the tank on some H-beams and a microphone to the preacher in the front.
Turret detail WIP:
Side damage & Engine Detail WIP:
The engine will get more detail and Iīll add a service floor on the back, On this floor I will add a engineer as well.

25-01-2008, 12:34
Cannon detail:

I got some more valejo paints from their moddel colour line.... man these colours are great cant recomend them enought! Also got me 2 tamian wheathering kits they are top notch stuff as well! so I tried out my new stuff on a spare part to test the scheme for "the agonizer"
good?bad? I kinda like it and think I will go with it but slighly less bright rust

Hereīs a tank that I forgott to post ages ago (or well 6 months)
not the best I done but it will do as a standard rank and file russ.

25-01-2008, 12:36
Also I made these Storm Troopers at the same time as the russ so they are a bit rushed and not done.... I will re do them later I think... still they will do TT

I also worked a bit on my DG hereīs a WIP shot from them

So thatīs all for now hope you like what you see and if you got any ideas it would be great, C&C Welcome

Mr Feral
25-01-2008, 12:45
It's all made of pure win. The damaged side on the Baneblade is done really well and the little details bring out the quality. The weathering looks amazing as well, I seriously need more rust on my stuff. Well done! I can't criticise anything, but I would like to see more of the Amoured Company to give me some ideas :p

25-01-2008, 12:47
these are really nice - loving the grittiness of them. very inspiring.

25-01-2008, 17:14
Indeed we see a lot of awesomeness here.
Your men look really good. Nice weathering effects and some very good conversions.

Sadly I can't praise your work adequately as I won't loose a word over this heretical bunch.

25-01-2008, 20:34
You've effected a really nice glowing look to the eyes of those Plague Marines, my friend, dunno if its just the camera work or your painting skills! They look good tho, and I agree on all the work on the Baneblade being top notch, really like the battle damaged layers of armour.

25-01-2008, 22:00
I really like the baneblade conversions, very renegade-like. and the DG are pretty cool too.

26-01-2008, 11:21
Mr Feral:Man you have inspired me alot! thanks man, rustying up you stuff is realativly easy I suggest you get yourself some tamian wheatering kits (B & C are the ones I use) they are great and easy to use. oh the armoured company is coming along slow... but I have some stuff to show if people is intrested :p

DonKarst0n:Thanks. And life is so much better on the dark side :skull:

Jihad_Ragsta:I was a bit skeptical about the lens glow but people seems to like them and they are growing on me as well. I will add more armour to the B.BLade later (when I get ahold of better P.cart)

3vilX:Thanks for the kind words

26-01-2008, 11:45
impressive colour scheme and great modelling! keep up the good work!

29-01-2008, 09:10
Nice work on the Baneblade, I'll be watching this one!

Metal Fingered Villain
30-01-2008, 19:30
Knowing your past work, i was hoping for a little more conversion work on the plague marines. I'll be watching this log with interest though. Stealing what ideas I can. :D

30-01-2008, 20:13
Nice stuff, but I think the DG need to get highlighted much more toward the edges, perhaps with an extreme edge highlight to really emphasizie it?:)

31-01-2008, 19:49
How did you affect the glowing eyes for those Deathguard? If I ever get round to painting up my gaskmasked Warzone troopers (they're my budget price guineapigs for greater things) any tips would come in handy!

You can consider yourself subscribed by me, I love the true grit of this thread! Factory finish is for wimps :p

08-02-2008, 10:27
Time for another
So studies are killing me but Iīm trying to complete some stuff.
I started to add a plow to the baneblade, I want a special kind of plw where I can add two traitors using the plow as a bunker so I started with adding a floor
Also added some more chaosy stuff to the stubber
And started to convert the enginee to fit a mor electrical use t ofit with the speakers I will add later.
Also almost finished the back of the blade. with a service floor some skulls and random bits

08-02-2008, 10:28
clos ups:
and with techy

so thatīs all for now but I hop I will have some time to post more of my DG stuff as soon as possible

08-02-2008, 10:39
Amazing! love what your doing, like the rust effect , how did you achieve it?

08-02-2008, 11:04
Super detailing on the baneblade, I'm very interested in the plow/bunker idea being realised. Also loving the Chaos Spawns, great work!

09-02-2008, 10:23
BishopBlack: Thanks and the rust was created with the Tamiyan wheathering kits (B & C) adding water to the kit and painting with a brush, then using the tool that came with the kit to smear it out once it dried. Hope that helps.

Slaaaaaanesh:Yeah I will try to add lots of detail to the blade to make it look more piratical and more renegadish. The plow bunker idea is a old one I used on a Space wolf land raider and I think it will work great with a bigger plow like this on on the blade. I will try and finish it as soon as possible.

I got alot of stuff from som firends at our local club so I got plenty of stuff to add to the blade when I get the time for it. :)

09-02-2008, 11:34
That baneblade is looking utterly incredible! When that thing's painted I think it may overtake Sheep's baneblade as my favourite tank ;)

12-02-2008, 08:16

Once again itīs time to do this and I have been pretty busy.
I got some critisism on the baneblade looking a bit to static and I thought about it alot, so the skull pile on the back would propably fall of after 2sec when driving so I had to re do them. I took a barrel from the accesoary sprue and cut it up, added some skulls from the urban basing kit + some from the flagelant kit + some pva glue, then painted it up (it will be cleaned up a bit later

Also I got my hands on a baselisk (it will be built later) but I took some parts from it to finish the back of my baneblade, the skull container and the hand rails are not glued yet and will be added after painting (might be magnetized Iīm not sure..

The other parts from the basi made me a better cannon sheild. I really like the new one making it look less like the "usual" baneblade. it will recive some detail loving once my FW bits arrive

Did cut up the baneblade and removed the top part since I wanted to have the turrer centerd, so I have to detail the p.cart on top now. Also added a ladder to the turret

12-02-2008, 08:16
Started to add detail to the bunker/plow on front, I have lots of ideas for this one.

And a overview of the tank

So then over to the DG side of life, I did paint a bit more on these guys but they are still wip.

12-02-2008, 08:19
So then over to the DG side of life, I did paint a bit more on these guys but they are still wip.

I did build a start to a possesed squad (man these sprues are awsome!) thet are ready to recive some gs loving later.

I realised that I had a box of chaos termies as well so I did knock up a first member of the squad. Itīs almost done only some gs work to fill some gaps to do.

12-02-2008, 08:21
Did start on a lord (the boxed set has some really sucky detail I shaved most of off). Left to do: add detail to plasma, add riverts to harness and armour plating, fix nurgel symbol on the small sheild to be more detailed, add a smbol to his left leg, fix the cape and add the horns on top, fixing the armour around the head and add some lens.

Thatīs all for now I hope I will have more time to add stuff as soon as possible.

12-02-2008, 08:27
oops forgot to add more stuff to the blade. I decided that the turrets on the sponsors were boring so I wanted heavy weapon teams istead (to add to the ramshackel feel), I found a old catatchan HW team dude and added some gs + a arm from a beastmen (cut down) and a cut down lascannon from a sentinel (this will have cabels, aiming device and god know what added later. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/animerik/DSC006051.jpg
and a more perspective shot of it
THe HW teams will have small roofs of scavanged mettal sheets and sandbags added.

that should be all for now then ;)

12-02-2008, 08:32
I'm lovin that baneblade. between the physically manned lascannon, the engine stoker, and the "prow platform" it is very traitor guard. Its like "we used to have good stuff, but then we left the Imperium. who's idea was that again?"

Mr Feral
12-02-2008, 08:48
Wow very impressive! I like the manned sponson on the Baneblade, that's a great idea, and your DG Lord is rather impressive too.

12-02-2008, 22:08
good god man, your attention to ultra-fine detail is just staggering. very evocative of GW art, rather then GW figures.

and your spawn give me the heebie-jeebies, both in sculpts and paint. top-notch on everything.

13-02-2008, 08:16
I love your Baneblade! I cannot wait for it to be finished.

14-02-2008, 01:52
Your DG look incredible! the colors the glowing eyes sick! sick! sick! I only normally say this to my girlfriend but DON'T STOP! DON'T STOP!

14-02-2008, 09:32
I only normally say this to my girlfriend but DON'T STOP! DON'T STOP!

I need to chime in with the others here, your attention to detail is awe-inspiring, and I'm really looking forward to the finished product.

21-02-2008, 10:39
This needs updating with all of the stuffies you bought yesterday :p (and yes, I know I'm about as slow as you in updating, but that's no part of this convo :p)

Now, get to updating!

21-02-2008, 11:29
Triggerdog:Yeah thatīs the feel I wanted to make with this b-blade

Mr Feral:Thanks mate and the Dg lord needs a bigger pic alot of the detail was last with the pics....

pox:Wow thanks man I love GW art and I always try to catch the same feel and mood as GW art.

BishopBlack:AHahahah

Punk_in_Drublic:The B-Blade will take alot of time to finish I have so many ideas to add but I will try and not make it clutterd (at least no to much )

Neknoh:Yeah I should but I have a big hand in in enviromental anthropology.... when thatīs done I will..

also a small hint of whatīs to come if you have checked my old blogs

"The look of things I almost forgott
The greenstuff forms figures of wintersrott!"

ahahh thatīs so lame anyway A hint for long time lurkers out there

21-02-2008, 12:22
Only just seen this, and it almost made me fall off my chair. Great work :)

Those Death Guard are looking excellent so far - presumably you are still building up shades of highlights? And the terminators are seriously scary looking. Can't wait to see more

21-02-2008, 21:06
Hrmm... thought of adding exhausts to your Termie's armour? Those cooling grids at the back just don't cut it for that nurgly, gritty feel, I think something's missing, and exhausts like the ones at the back of your Baneblade might be the way to go. Consider it
