View Full Version : Might be a crazy idea, but would it be possible to...

...create a 40K version of Blood Bowl? Ok I'm not thinking of Tyranids playing football against Taus, but rather using "count as" to represent teams of cyberneticaly enhanced humans ( la Pit Slaves from Necromunda).

It's been sooo long since I played BB that I don't remember anything from the rules, like if the players have any possibility for customization. I would probably use converted pit slaves, so I'd want the different weapons they can have to at least have a little impact on their performances.

I turn to you, more knowledgeable members of Warseer, to help me see if the rules of Blood Bowl could be used to represent stuff such as:

Cybernetic enhancemens/weapons
Combat drugs
Field traps
Exploding balls
Injuries and people dying
Experience gaining

So is this a crazy idea or would it be worth the efforts?

It's been up before...

Do a search.

I did and all I could find were threads about turning 40K armies into bloodbowl teams, I specificaly noted that that was not my intent.

I belive that it came up in that same discussion. That they wanted to use the same basics of the game. But change it compleetly into a 40K game.

That beeing said. I more liked the other idea that came up, about making a 40K sport, rather than converting a fantesy sport into a 40K one.

Well I don't see why you couldn't.

Bloodbowl has a lot of advanced (for fantasy) technology in it, so with a little imagination you could use the existing rules and just add 40K models, converting them to represent the teams.

Just say skills or stat increases are upgrades, the goblins have various weapons on their team, the dark elves have an assassin and the dwarfs have the deathroller. There are also star players with special weapons so you can add bombs, chainsaws and knives.

If you want to go adding rules there are plenty of alternative teams and extra things already on the specialist games site.

Personally I find that most special rules by gamers tend to be too powerful or too weak, they can be fun for a while but are rarely better than the existing rules. using the wonderful "counts as" rule is much better.

So for instance if you want a servitor team, make them khemri or undead and regeneration can be quck healing or robots that need to be repaired.

It's in the old ork background("Freebooters" I think) that bloodbowl is one of their pastimes. So you could fit in a bunch of races based on that information alone. The same source, for example, states that ogryns live quite happily among the orks, so now you can use ogre teams to represent ogryns. Gobbos = grots, human slaves, etc. All the game needs is a few more technology bits to put it into 40k. Like a bionik throwin' arm or something.
