Hi Guys,

my next project will be epic. I am planning to do two armies for the occaisonal weekend gaming session with my brother.

I'd like some info on good matchups. Is IG vs Orks fun to play, tactically rewarding etc.?

Thanks

Speedy

One of the best things about Epic is that all the armies are pretty well balanced against each other, so any two armies would be good.

Pick the two armies you most like the look of and get about 3000 points of each - thats a good way to start it off.

Does the character of epic armies correspond with their playing style in 40k?
i.e. ig=large and cumbersome, eldar=fast but fragile etc.

Not totally. The Space Marines in 40k are agreat all-round army and very forgiving of mistakes! :) However in Epic you have to use them very carefully as they are fewer in number than the forces in other armies.

Eldar are fragile, but one of the fastest races - I've heard many an Epic Marine player bemoan the fact they've been run-round in rings by Eldar armies!

Start off with 2000pts a side, then add stuff like War Machines, Titans and Aricraft, so you get used to playing with them.

But I would recommend getting in to Epic as it's a great, fun, tactical game.

This is very true, Space Marines are very hard and can soak up a fair bit of punishment. Losses have a greater effect on them than other armies so you have to think a little more about who does the shooting and who stays back ready for that perfectly timed strike.

Eldar are plain nasty! It's true that they are very fragile but their speed, assault ability and the hit & run rules allow them to leap out from cover, knock hell out of a unit and then sod off at full speed to a place where they can't be shot!

As for Orks; my brother has got a huge Ork army with lots of transports. When all of it comes charging at you from the start things become a little interesting. In the new underwear needed kinda way! ;)

Which ever armies you choose I'd say start with about 2000 pts and get to know the game. Then you'll want to throw more and more units at each other.

yeah go for 2000pts worth of balanced forces. Don't go adding Titans and Airforces till much later as these have a big effect on the way the game is played.

Thanks for the info guys.
Anyone knows a place where I can find some sample army lists to get a feel for the game?

Specialist Games site used to be really cool for everything that involved the Epic hobby. Now the forums have been cut down eliminating over half of the sub forums. They do redirect you to an independant site, but it's no-where near as popular as the old "official" ones were.

Plus the Indie forum is down at the mo!

If you do a little searching the old forums are still there but are locked so you can still troll thru all the old info and posts including the advice for army lists building. Otherwise I have to agree with the above posters that the new forums are definitely half of a shadow of what the old forum was.

:cries: Sorry about that. EpiComms will be back up again as soon as possible, most likely in a day or two. When it is, I advise posting and asking for an example army list. Someone there will sort you out.

All the best.

Hi. If you are looking for Epic players, try here:

http://www.epic40k.co.uk/cgi/players.cgi

If you want to know how the game plays, you can download the rules, completely for free, from the SG web site. Get hold of them and give it a read.

All the best.

I look a bit too the rules.
It seems that game play Epic looks like Warmaster.
Some formation options and lot of difference troops.

Epic plays nothing like Warhamster.

I tried out warhamster and it just wasnt any where near as enjoyable as Epic - for me. Im sure there are people out there who feel differently tho (covers back to avoid abuse from Warmaster fans).

I agree, Epic is very different to Warmaster. Epic is a lot less about the leadership of the commanders. There is no leadership range for commands. Epic is a more 'fluid' game, constantly changing, while WM is more about setting up charges and staying in coherent formation.

Very different games.
