View Full Version : Platoon/squad level inquisitor games?

Just wondering how practical it is. It seems doable although perhaps needlessly complex.

squad of marines vs mob of mutants, squads/fire teams of guard defending an inquisitor or officer...

perhaps an evacuation mission towards a waiting valkyrie?

either way, is it practical?

It can be done, but I would recomend either kill team from the 40k rulebook or Necromunda rules.

With using the Inquisitor rules having more than 6-8 models aside can really slow the game down even for experienced gamers. I have played large games with about 20+ models on the table, it took best part of the day to play out.

It can, but it can also be great fun - sort of like Inquisitor's answer to 40K Apocalypse. My mates and I played an 8-player game at the local GW a couple of months back (see game 5 of our Webway Campaign) and although it lasted most of the day and took 3 GMs to keep it running it was absolutely amazing. I only had one model on the board and I was still kept entertained by everything else that was going on inbetween my turns.

I once GM'd a game with 9 players and 27 characters (it wasn't planned that way, but I was generous to people who wanted to get through to the final Big Fight Scene at the end of the campaign).

We had an hour and we made it through, I think, 5 turns. The main problem was that people ended up doing nothing for a long time and got a bit bored.

Running it like Apocalypse won't work, as you don't have a conventional IGOUGO turn-based sequence.

I would advise players to pick up 2nd Ed 40k or adapt Necromunda for this sort of large-squad combat. Alternatively, for small numbers of PCs and large numbers of NPCs, you can use the rules in the Architecture of Hate campaign pack (available from Specialist Games). These were given a thorough play-testing at the Inq GT last Saturday by several GMs and seemed to stand up well.

i think that a game with maybe three or four players, each with two or three characters against a horde of poorly equipped NPC's would be cool
