Itís a new year; Iíve got a new camera and what seems like an endless tide of unpainted miniatures. This is my second attempt at a log as the other sank without a trace due to some personal issues that kept me from my brushes. However, with those aforementioned problems now resolved and a bunch more spare time on my hands I think I can give this Log malarkey another try.

Thereíll be several projects that I will be working on. I have Bretonnians, Tau, Lizardmen, Dogs of War and the Death Korps of Krieg. The first pic is a tester Fire Warrior. I did a lot of back and forth on how I should approach my Tau and I finally decided upon a battle ravaged urban force.

Next up is a tester Death Corp Infantryman, after seeing and hearing so much about MIG pigments I had to give them a try. I was set on mud, but after seeing Mikas sensational Valhallens there was no other way to go but snow!

08-01-2008, 11:32
Thirdly, there is a pic of a Skink chief that was painted as part of TOPS. I had to drop out of that unfortunately, but here he is again to show yíall what direction Iíll be taking with the rest of my Lizardmen.

Currently I'm working on a Hammerhead and some more Skinks. Pics up soon!

Thanks for reading :)

08-01-2008, 12:55
cool kriegsman, could you give us a bigger pic?

08-01-2008, 13:09
It's all great, but I love the skink most! I'd never been a fan of blue scales on blue skin for Lizardmen, but those bright aquamarine scales look superb!

08-01-2008, 13:49
Love the Death Korps infantryman in snow!

10-01-2008, 19:15
Cheers for the replies. :)

Hallowed_are_the_ori - Iíll be putting up some more pictures tomorrow (6 Skinks) and will see if I can get a bigger, clearer pic of the guardsman.

McMullet Ė I was the same concerning scales and skin and originally thought about going for something similar to what youíve done (terrifically I might add) with your Lizardmen. But I played around with a few variations and Iím happy with the final result. Itís also great to work with a limited palate.

I really like the purple on the firewarrior,

Excellent painting.

17-01-2008, 08:46
I love that DKoK soldier you did.

Dam seeing brilliantly painted urban Tau models makes me want to do a 1000pt army of them. I'm going to follow this.

17-01-2008, 11:13
OK this is a bit good. Really excellent painting skills mate - love the DKoK

Awesome awesome awesome. The Skink Chief makes me want to break out the paints on my Lizardmen again.

26-03-2008, 19:57
I close my eyes for a minute and 2 months pass. Damn you real life!

Ahh well, I've managed to get my comp back and I thought I'd put up a few pics of my painfully slow progress. They say a change is as good as a break and I've really taken that to heart. I find it hard to spend more than an hour or two on one project, but I shall overcome the unpainted horde! ...eventually.

Here's a pic of a 90% completed Standard Bearer for my 3000+ points Bretonnian army. This guy will sit in a 5 strong unit of Grail Knights whose own Standard I have just started working on.

26-03-2008, 20:01
The thread of a hundred W.I.P -

Some Marines cause I like the models.

Some Skinks to be lead by my finished Chief -

26-03-2008, 20:14
Some Pilgrims -

And some testers for a potential Chaos army.

26-03-2008, 22:50
Some very nice stuff here, and as a chaos addict I'd like to see that potential army manifest. :)

27-03-2008, 02:19
Love the vibrant and clean painting style, definitely look forward to seeing more. Never thought it'd be possible to pull purple Tau off so well - hopefully you've got more of them to share!

29-03-2008, 23:20
So far the urban Tau and pilgrims are my favourites :D

Anymore Tau coming?

30-03-2008, 03:46
Wow, great use of color on the pilgrims!

01-04-2008, 17:07
Cheers for the positive comments guys, I need all the motivation I can get.

Well I've nearly completed the Grail Knight Standard, just a few tidy-ups, a couple of minor highlights, the base and varnishing to go. Think I might add a few bits of gold here and there as well to tie him in with the Army standard and the rest of the unit.

I enjoyed painting him but my God aren't Brets a demanding bunch on the old brush. It just seems like there's always a little more that could be done. I also had a nightmare with the shield as I undercoated it with a can of white spray that must have been lying around for a bit too long and it ended up with a speckled, uneven finish. Apart from all that I hope to finish him tonight as well as the shields and bases for the 6 skinks.

I've also managed to get a bit of work done on my Tau and I estimate that I'll be finished the other 9 members of 'Fire Warrior squad Alpha' by early next week. (Damn work getting in the way of painting!) I've also made a good start on a Hammerhead. In the meantime, here's a pic of an Etheral I painted a wee while ago and accidently chipped just before I was about to varnish him. Damn you metal!

01-04-2008, 17:14
wow, i love the fire warrior, more tau in purple!
the flatness of the white on the bret is stunning as well.
is the ethereal standing on the back door of a tank?

01-04-2008, 17:24
Well spotted, he is indeed standing on the door thingy from a Tau tank. :p
As you'll come to see, I've actually gone a little crazy with the basing on my Tau army and every model is standing on/in/beside something salvaged from my bits box.

As for the white on the Bret, It nearly drove me mad. Black undercoat is a nightmare when working with white even with the spectacular foundation range and trying to get it to not go all blobby (Scientific term I think;)) is a real patience tester.

01-04-2008, 17:51
Have to say that the bretonians are my fav. Especially the battle standard, the tiny details on the banner itself, together with the pattern on green... Very nice. Firewarrior is a second, purple armour on tau is new! The squad is sure to be cool.
Etheral ain't really the same though, miss the purple... My C&C on im would be a tiny freehand on rim of his cloak, or something to break up the white.

01-04-2008, 23:34
Etheral is lovely! But yes i know white drives people mad :D I had to do a unit of winter wood elves that the person insisted painting with black undercoat :p

Can't wait for more :D

12-05-2008, 18:16
Well it's been around a month since the last update but I have been working away, but on all the boring stuff such as the building and prepping. My Tau will be taking centre stage for the next while as I focus on getting a 1500point army painted up for use.

Here is a WIP of a battlesuit that I started today.

Front and Back

The base

"What you looking at?"

Will hopefully have him and his two buddies finished over the next week of so. Thanks for reading!

Really good stuff, especially the Death Korps guardsman--I look forward to more!

15-08-2008, 21:12
Well it's about time I got this back up and running. :D

It's been a while but I've had stuff going on in general although it hasn't resulted in many painted minis, although this should all change over the next few months. I've joined The Tale of Painters for both Fantasy and 40k. Beastmen/Lizardmen and Tau respectivly.

I'm going to continue to paint the Tau in the scheme I've started and for the first month I'm going to finish off this lot. I've done some basecoating and I know it's over 200points but since I've already started it I think it's only fair so that I'm putting in as much time and effort as the others and it should level out in terms of points over the next couple of months.

The current state of my Fantasy projects is this:

The Skinks are 12 with Javelins and Shields, 12 with blowpipes and two respective chiefs. This lot contains the Skink seen earlier in this thread and the six WIP skinks and will be my first contribution of approx 200points for my Lizardmen. Again it's a little over but for the same reasons as the Tau.

The beastmen are comming along and I think I'm really going to enjoy painting them although I'm a little miffed about he current rules and when they will get a new book/minis. I just started building the first heard to go along with a "champion" of sorts and it's a great kit alot I think a little greenstuff may be required.

I posted a pic of the Beastlord in The Tale of Fantasy Painters thread but here a few better ones.

15-08-2008, 21:24

So except for a couple of bits and bobs he's petty much done. Note that this model is a different model to the one seen on the first page. That was damaged by a dodgy can of spray and I just got another one.

And a Skink WIP for good measure.

So this log will charter my progress through both the ToFP and To40KP as well as containg some other side progects such as my Bretonnians and some more Death Korps. The WIP Marines have been put on hold until I can decide on a way to do them and the book is out. (I'm thinking foundation Mordian Blue) The WIP Chaos Mortal champion has also been put on the back burner until the new book it out (Soon!)

So hope you all get something out of this as I plan to put a decent amount of STUFF into it.

15-08-2008, 23:57
That Beastman look phenominal.

Look forward to some more work being done in the fantasy region :-)

16-08-2008, 02:34
Woah is that beastmen standard stock besides the base!? Dam i think that'll be my fantasy GD entry if it is stock!

16-08-2008, 02:50
Looks like the Beastlord with additional hand-weapon (http://oz.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.oz?do=Individual&code=99060201176&orignav=13) with no conversions, to my eyes, but the GW picture is so titchy-small. Looks great so far, just the studs on the armour chest plate on the right side of the figure (our right, not its right) could be brightened up a bit to match the left.

Great base too, the blood on the snow looks very well executed. (Is that a pun?) :D

16-08-2008, 13:40
Cheers for the comments guys. The BeastLord is indeed the one with the additional hand weapon Metaphorazine mentioned. I think it's one of the best GW models and stuck to a rock he looks mighty badass.

As for the base, it's just good old baking soda. ;)

12-09-2008, 21:01
Yikes, it seems time has gotten away with me again.

I come bearing gifts! Pics to be precise. I've been working like a dog redecorating my room over the past few weeks and trying to organize my HUGE backlog of miniatures which didn't leave me with nearly enough time to paint. But with all that completed I can really start getting some stuff done.

So what have I been up to?

These are the pics of my first minis for my TOFP Beastmen army.

12-09-2008, 21:03
(Damn pic restrictions) - The Beastlord.

and some skinks for my TOFP Lizardmen army.

12-09-2008, 21:14
Some closer pics of the skinks -

12 Javelin and Shields -

11 Blowpipes ( This is meant to be 12 as well but I lost a skink, but I've found him again and he'll be painted up and added shortly)

So Whats next -?

Well, I hardly got any work done on my Tau for the To40kP last month so it's full steam ahead for them. I've done a little more work on the Choas Mortal Lord on the previous page and I will be continuing with a mortal expansion as soon and the sweet new models and army book are out. Chosen for the win!

As far as my beast go I would like to have the rest of the heard painted (7 more Gors and 8 Ungors) and a Bray Shaman which is already WIP (Pics soon)

For my Lizardmen its a counter to all those low-point skinks with my Slann Mage Priest already started (about half the basecoating is done, pics coming with the shaman in the next few days)

and I'm also going to try and fit in some work for my Bretonnian Relic, it's been WIP for faaaar to long. There's also another 40K project in the works but I'll talk about that later.

So thanks for reading and any comments most welcome. :D

13-09-2008, 09:46
Nice painting! Those shields on the backs are a great idea for adding them to the minis, but how are they hanging there? I think you're missing some GS straps. ;)

13-09-2008, 16:02
Cheers, I'd actually considered putting some on but at the end of the day I'd already spent more time on these guys than I wanted to and with another 40 odd to go I had to make some concessions. (Plus I'm lazy :P)

14-09-2008, 02:25
Well it's been a long night and I've been busy beavering away on my Tau (and watching anime :D)

It's my first Firewarrior team with Rail-Rifles out of 4 in total (I plan two further teams, but they'll be mounted in Fishes and packing Carbines.).

Even though I haven't really made things easy for myself I'm liking the way they are starting to turn out. I like doing the extravagant bases and the weathering but I have to stop from getting carried away as I constantly have to keep telling myself that this is Army Standard Painting.

Although it looks as though it will take a much bigger investment in time than I initially thought, I'm going to try and not go crazy so I can keep things coming at a decent rate.

Here's the WIP pics.

Close-up WIP.

14-09-2008, 15:50
Oh my goodness, that copper looking Chaos Warrior is awesome!!! I might have to repaint my Chaos Warriors, seeing that!!

Purple Tau are absolutely For Teh Win!!

And the Beastlord is downright beatiful.

And that's all I wanted to say!

14-09-2008, 23:43
Cheers for the comment Daniel36. Speaking of the Mortal Champ, here are some further WIP pics of him.

As you can see I've decided to go with blood splattered snow on my Mortals as well as my Beasts.(It's just so suited to Chaos me thinks.) He's currently about 75% complete and I think I'll finish him up in another couple of sessions. I'm in no hurry TBH as I kinda want to string him out untill I get my new Mortal stuff.

So... What else? I've spent another good chunk of time on my Tau today. This squad is about 95% percent finished with bases and weathering finally complete.

The main thing left to do is the banner. I was thinking of putting some kind of design on it but I don't want to get into doing elaborate free-hand. I quite like the plain yellow, but what do you think? Any suggestions?

14-09-2008, 23:50

I also managed to get a bit of work done on my Battle-suits. They should be fairly straight forward as I'm approaching them in exactly the same painting style as the warriors.

One aspect of these guys that's driving me nuts is their plasma guns. I want that blue/white hot look to them but I just can't seem to come up with a good way of doing it that can be done in a reasonably amount of time. (And looks decent) Any Top Tips or examples? I want the same effect on my fusion/ Rail guns as well.

And finally I just realised I haven't got the customary work-space pic. So without further ado, Here's where the magic happens. :D

Thanks for reading, and any comments most welcome. :)

17-09-2008, 02:55
wow Hollopoint! You have some incredible miniatures there! Your battle damage on the tau is remarkable!

18-09-2008, 23:27
Cheers Lavieth, it takes a while to do but I think it's worth it. That Fire Warrior team is the first of 4 armed with rifles. Here is the current state of the others.

WIP Fire Warrior team B (Stage one)

WIP Fire Warrior team C (Stage two)

WIP Fire Warrior team D (Stage 3)

Here is a WIP of my first tank. So far I have 3 Hammerheads, 2 Devilfish and a Skyray. The plan is to have 3 hammerheads, 3 Hammerhead FW varients, 3 Skyrays, 2 Ion Heads and 6 Fishes.

18-09-2008, 23:31
Finally I've started working on some Sniper Drone teams. Here are 3 controllers, the plan is to make them like little dioramas in-themselves and I like how they're coming together.

So that is whats I'm doing concerning my Tau. My other Projects - Beastmen, Lizardmen, Bretonnia and others have all have some work of varying degrees on them over the past few days. Updates coming soon. :D

19-09-2008, 18:02
Love the bases- especially the red barrels. Everyone paints them metallic, but... you never see metal barrels in real life. Great stuff!
