View Full Version : Your Epic Force

I was just wondering what armies people use in Epic?

My army of choice at the mo is a SiegeMasters army which I'm currently building up. So far I have 2 Infantry Comps, 1 Ragnorak Comp, 1 Siegfried Comp, 3 StormHammers and a Bombard plt. I've also just received some fortifications too.

My army isn't from Baran though, I've still gotta think of some fluff for my guys.

I did used to have an Ork army in the days of TitanLegions and a Ulthwé Eldar army in Epic 40K.

While I hardly play any more (and when I do it's NetEpic or 2nd ed Space Marine), I've got a Tzeentch chaos army and a Squat army.

I've had an old Titan Legion era Eldar army for over ten years. It was my first wargame. I bought Epic40K but didn't like it. I did get the nice plastic ruins set out of it and even managed to score a second box set's worth from a friend. Still it stayed in storage for quite awhile.

Now I'm painting up my girlfriend's marine force. She likes the Blood Raven's for epic and I'm doing my best to give her a balanced army. This is her first war game until the Dark Angels are released for 40K next year. So in the mean time I'm trying to give them a very dynamic paint job to inspire her to play. Hopefully I will have a proper digital camera soon instead of a web cam so I can post some pics of my progress.

As far as me I would like to update my Eldar army. I intend on purchasing heavily from FW for everything they supply as I really don't like alot of the SG tanks. I have my own craftworld in 40K and will translate this over to epic.

I'm looking forward to the new Eldar flyers produced by FW. Hopefully I'll get a look at those soon.

Iv got a stupid amount of Space Marines (of which about 5k is painted) and im currently painting my Guard army-iv got about 6k's worth (more if i include Titans and flyers). (Luckily i bought the majority of it whilst still a staff member, so hasnt cost me more than £100 at most.)

Have been tempted by a Tau army but an entire forgeworld army is, personally, unjustifiable.

I started playing back in space marine/ titan legions time so of course I have a space marine force, maybe 5k, a good IG sellection, 9k. When they first came out I got into the Epic Nids so I have 7k of them, last year I got into Orks so now I have somewhere around 15k of orks including Gargants and about 3K of Imperial titans. I want to get a bunch of the Chaos stuff next, I been borrowing a friends chaos stuff if I want to play around with them.

I started out in the Adeptus Titanicus / Space Marine days (1st ed) and like The Ape I've got a stupid amount of Space Marine stuff. It comes to something daft like 11,625 points and that without Titans!

My Eldar army is 8525 points without Titans, 12,275 with ............ and growing! :D

Oh man, those picture make me wish I hadn't rushed out and bought the current metal ones. :(

Still, I have several thousand points each of Marines, Eldar and Squats. Most of the Eldar and Marine stuff is fairly old school with just a handful of new units.

There are more pictures from FW here:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/fwsoon.htm

It has also been pointed out that the Eldar fliers are swing wings, and you can position them as you want. They are absolutely fantastic minis, and I cant wait to get hold of some! I think that I will need to consign my SG ones to EBay - although these FW ones are rumoured to be almost twice as large as the SG ones.

I have way too many points, mostly unpainted and unassembled, of pretty much all the forces past and present. Chaos are probably my smallest force right now.

*Takes deep breath*
I have several armies I've either got complete or are putting together/painting:

- Iron Hands Space Marines (3000 points)
- Imperial Guard (3000 points)
- Fire Storm Chapter Space Marines (2000, will eventually be expanded to 3000 points!)
- Orks (3000 points, plus a Mega Gargant! :D)
- Iron Warriors Chaos Marines (will be 3000 points when I've done the conversions to make Obliterators & a Bane Lord)
- Plus some Knights, an Imperator Titan (sweet! ) and Inquisition/Death Watch units for the experimental list I've been part of developing on the Specialist Games forum.

Currently, of that I've only got the Iron Hands completely fully painted for battle. I'll be getting the Guard finished for next year's Specialst Games tournament.

Could you explane why you think Tau epic is unjustifiable.

well i'm no telepath, but my guess would be either price:

Heroics & Ross Historical 6mm infantry
£1.50 for 50
Ground Zero Games Scifi 6mm infantry
£2.50 for 24
Alternative Armies Scifi 8mm infantry (tho labelled as 6mm)
£4 for 30
Forgeworld 6mm Tau
£12 for 25

or simply a doubt as to the durability of resin 6mm infantry ~ i dont know any company other than FW who do things that small in resin, the only wargames company i can think of that uses resin is Battlefront, and they only use it for vehicle bodies: gun barrels and infantry are made using metal as resin is just too brittle to stand up to gaming ~ and their minis are 3x the size of EPIC

I am sure they are great fun to play with. However, I cant justify spending that much on models, especially when there are many other things i would rather purchase (like a new surf board  ).

Only reason i could afford my Guard army is because they were half-price

Firestorm40K - nice! 'Course, if anyone else fancies posting their Epic Forces that'd be cool! I'll have to get a photo of my Siegemasters sorted.

BTW Firestorm40K, I see you have 12 Infantry stands in your Tactical Detachment? I'm getting a bit confused now as in the WD BatRep, they had 12 whereas on the SpecialistGames forum they reckon it should only be six? Someone please clarrify!

Judging by my current financial conditions, it should be very soon(Read: Next year or two).

Nice start.

Once the Marines are done being painted I plan to build around 5k of Imperial Guard, a full regiment. 3 Mech Inf Co, 2 Tank Co, 1 Superheavy Tank Co, 1 Artillery Co, 1 Reg HQ Co, 1 Flak battery, 1 Sentiel Formation. The standard Inf will all be Stormtrooper minis, dont wanna use the long coats. Also going to build two flights of Imperial Navy craft - that is 4 Thunderbolts (FW) and 2 Marauders (FW). Last and 1/3 done a Titan Strike Team 2 Warhounds, 1 Reaver, 1 Warlord.

I was also thinking of building a detachment of Grey Knights.

Not played myself for ages. Got a Blood Angel and Chaos (Iron Warrior) army with Traitor IG. Bought a load of plastics for SM's/Nids/Chaos a few years back when support for Epic 40K ceased for a silly amount. Seeing the new Epic:A and FW Epic scale models I've been tempted a few times to return to it, even got two unmade FW Warhound's fr my fledgling titan forceand those Epic Tau and Grey Knights look mightily cool to my eyes. If I can get a few regular playing partners to brush off their Epic forces we might give it a go with the new rules.

2x demolisher sqn
2x ogryns
2x hellhound sqn
leman russ company
hydras
2x thunderbolt sqn,
stormtroopers in valkeries
vultures
2x superheavy tank squadron (3 each of baneblade/shadowsword)
3x basilisk company
1x manticore company

i usually set up the fighters in an overhead cap, pound my opponent with artillery, then use the stormtroopers to grab objectives.

Here is the army I used in the 5000 pt game. As a result of the game I am considering going with a much more strike style army of marines with two thawks and a landing craft for an airborne drop and an armored column already on the table along with some Titans.

Thoughts?

They look nice - got to love the forgeworld warhounds!

Personally im not a big fan of land raiders as they dont do enough for their points - i would take some terminators as they are less vulnerable if they teleport and can rip a big hole in your opponents army. I used two such squads to good effect in the GT last year.

If you teleport with them it means the first turn can be quite rough, but come the second turn (even better if you win priority) they can really knock your opponent off track.

Hiya folks

Just want to say hi.

I've been playing Epic:A since the beginning of playtesting and did have a 5000pt Crimson Fist force but eventually sold this on ebay. (wish I hadn't now - doh)

I've an Eldar Army (Iyanden) of about 5000pts painted with a tonne of wraithguard/wraithlords a few more aspects and a 2nd vampire left to paint.

Got about 4000pts of Orks )only a Grgant and 4 Fb's painted though)

My current project is my new Marine army, using a made up chapater; The Praetors Of Hydra. I have 3000pts painted and am currently expanding it to include more speeders, scouts, drop pods and 4 Warhound Titans. Almost finsihed my first 'hound. Will get a photo up at the weekend, plus more of my force. The first Titan is called Aeterno from the Legio Mortalis Titan Legion.

Anyhow I got a few bad photos of my force, but will endeavor to get better ones up asap.

Looking good Furry With Fleas! I dunno what you mean about bad photos, they look fine.

It'd be good to see some pics of your Orks and Eldar too.

Thanks Stug. Well the photo's are a little blurry and also only show bits of what I got done.

I've created a gallery on this site and uploaded half a dozen picks of my Eldar. I'll get a few more done at the weekend. Just got to wait for the admins here to vet for porn or something :)

Welcome to the fold, FWF, always great to have another Epic player around! :)

Really liking your Marines, excellent paint job on them. The quality of the pics is great, I'm really struggling to get some good pics of my Epic minis, so take heart!

Looking forward to seeing more of your army.

Well I had a couple of battles today with my Siegemasters at 1125points versus my bro's Ultramarines, I'll hopefully post a link soon so that you can see how I got on.

Hey folks, my first post in a long long time. Thought I would chime in as I recently started playing E:A again after a long hiatus. I sold my marines about 8 months ago as I was in desperate need of cash, but recently bought an Eldar army off a buddy of mine. I'm still piecing it back together, but its about 7300 pts worth, mostly infantry. No titans at all yet, though I will be getting a Phantom soon, plus some more Engines of Vaul. I thought I would submit a picture on here though, to see if folks could identify some models that were included. Best I could figure (going left to right) is that these are a Falcon, Tempest (Scorpion), Wave Serpent, and Warp Hunter (Cobra). Any ideas?

FWF, those Eldar minis are superbly painted! Can't wait to see more of your army.

Rover, I can confirm that the first on the left IS a Falcon, and the third from left IS a Wave Serpent. I'll have to check one of my old rule books to find out what the other ones are, though!

2 & 4 are exactly what you thought Rover.

Thanks for the assistance guys. I'm going to be trying out my first 5000 pt Eldar list Wed. evening in practice for a tournie being held at the Chicago Battle Bunker April 1st and 2nd, then I will begin painting like mad. I really need to replace the Warp Hunter models though, they're horridly ugly. I might cut the long guns off the Falcons and use them as Wave Serpents too, then just buy some new Falcons down the road. I got an official pts total of what I got in the lot, 8225 pts. Not bad for a hundred and fifty bucks.

Yes, you have it correct:

- Falcon (old style)
- Tempest (original Scorpion)
- Wave Serpent (flying iron version)
- Warp Hunter (lead to the Cobra)

I have been playing epic now for over 10 years and have amassed a huge chaos army. I think its around 25,000 pts but thats in 2nd edition pts as the later versions were rubbish.

On top of that lot I have 3 chaos imperators (another 6.5k approx) and 21 Warlords (thank you 1st ed adeptus titanicus boxsets).

Kind of silly really but like all my other chaos armies way to big to be able to ever field.
