Have you tried Ad-Aware ( http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10319876.html?tag=lst-0-1)?

try a combination of Ad aware and Spy sweeper, make you kindof untouchable

can you describe the problem to us so there may be a specific program that can help? CWShredder for example

Microsoft Antispyware. Its on beta just now, until junish, should get you sorted. Install it now, and run it. It will solve most if not all of your problems. The fact that it monitors all incoming stuff to your computer after first deletion means that my computer no longer has spyware on it at all, and hasnt had for many weeks.

At least, as far as I know...

Yo f2k, I'm downloading that Ad-Aware program now.
My computer is loaded with that stuff too.
Thanks alot E-Donkey and Kazaa.
Next time I'll just go to some European Porn site and turn off my Anti - Virus software. I'm sure I will take less damage.

Okay ad-aware is by far the best free adware search+quarantine program

also if you dont want a lot of adware and spyware but you still want free music forget kazaa and go for winmx...much better when it comes to virus and adware and spyware protection. I tried it once and never went back.

Hijack this. Or if you know what your doing regedit.

Don't use explorer or you'll get re-infected, give firefox a try.

*sigh* and stop browsing free porn sites... that's the real problem.

Your problems were caused by your crappy browser not your lack of a spyware cleaner. Most spyware cleaners don't actually stop the stuff from getting in there. They just let you delete it after. I use Opera and run ad-aware regularly only finding a few harmless Data miners. When I was using IE regularly I used to get all kinds of garbage in there all the time.

Also get a firewall and anti-virus software. A lot of people are first to blame "spyware" these days as a cause for computer problems like this but the good old viruses and Trojans are still out there and chances are if you've got tons of spyware you've got a few of them to.

Ad-aware is great but of late it has been having trouble taking out a virus called VX2, this file puts itself in the Windows System area and makes the computer think it is a critical file so doesn't allow you to delete it.

Even Ad-aware's addon that they released specifically to take it out doesn't work.
And since getting this thing on my PC my Ad-aware scanner has been mauled, it scans and detects things buy simply refuses to remove them, the status bar jumps to a quarter done then stops dead.

So yeah Ad-aware is brilliant, just watch out for it finding something called VX2.

You should always use a virus-scanner in addition to the anti-spyware. May I suggest the following cocktail?

Start with a healthy dose of AVG Anti-Virus (http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1) mixed with an equal amount of Sygate Personal Firewall (http://www.sygate.com/). Add some Ad-Aware (http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10319876.html?tag=lst-0-1), according to your own taste, and don’t forget a bit of Windows Update (http://www.windowsupdate).

Mix this cocktail every time you install a Windows OS, and you should have a healthy computer…

Windows update + Mozilla Firefox + SpywareBlaster + Spybot: Search and Destroy + AntiVir + common sense* = Immunity to viruses and spyware. A firewall adds protection though it's not 100% necessary all the time (i.e. if you have a router, etc).

*Don't open email attachments from strangers, don't download 200KB< files from p2p and don't install anything you can't fully trust.

I can assure you you will be able to browse the filthiest porn sites out there and not get infected, i haven't had a single detection with Spybot or Ad-Aware in 3 months.

I think the previous posts pretty much cover what you should do to get rid of it, but prevention is better than a cure. So stop using Internet Explorer, it has a hideous number of security holes. For Windows I'd suggest Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) or Opera (http://www.opera.com/). Somehow I don't think my usual comment of 'get a Mac' will be particularly useful... ;) :D

Firstly, with computer problems try bleepingcomputer.com - very fast, friendly, and informative forums to help people out. Well worth a visit regardless.

When youre clean, prevent it from happening again by updating XP with the service packs, then having a gander at the following (its a big job to get them all working without trying to delete each other, so I suggest a pick and mix approach unless youve got someone with strong computer knowledge on hand)
