the first box set i assembled as normal,
( dont clip off all the components in one go using the new game's work shop clipers, they gave me blisters on 3 fingers!!! _

but for the second i am inspired by tcraigen (http://warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129580)

so come monday its off to the art shop for some foam board.

pics to follow when i got photo web site thing up and running.

this post will be updated allong with the dark angel post weekly.

Haha! Yeah I got RSI from doing the same thing. Man I couldnt do anything for two days cos of the pain.

09-03-2008, 19:34
Must follow all threads, must follow all threads involving terrain. Sounds good. You guys got blisters on your fingers from using a set of GW clippers? WOw i like never get blisters, cause i've got calluses, Cuz i'm awesome :D

09-03-2008, 22:43
use a knife it makes better cuts and won't cause blisters. I'm proud to hear I inspired you, can't wait to see your stuff.
P.S. Im jealous you found those on ebay cheap I bought mine in the dead zone between cities and Apoco. so I got it from a hobby shop only saving the 6% add on tax here in canada. soo good find Im going to have to keep my eyes open.

A friendly tip: Don't use foamcore as a base for your terrain. Get hard board (the material used for clip boards...only a little bit thicker) Foamcore will warp when you start glueing and painting. A huge sheet of hardboard is only a little more expensive and will give you three or more times 1 foot squares to work with. You can usually get it cut at the hardware store. I did. It won't warp and gives you a perfect base for working on.

10-03-2008, 05:56
yeah this is what I use too. A lot of places call it Arborite Board it is like laminated mdf. this stuff is harder to warp but will if you paint only one side with glue when sanding it. If your fearful of this you could paint the rough side, you probably only need an X from corner to corner. Warning it will suck up alot of paint on that side.

23-03-2008, 18:05
ok, i havent got much done, read as nothing done this week ;)

but i did get some new stuff to go with all my plastic GW goodies.

a setling tank, pre made and painted ( will repaint the goo in it )

2 stacks of barrels and crates with tarp over them, made from resin.

and a box of the bio-toxin platformer kit

23-03-2008, 18:07
and here is the plastics i made.

this on a church with walled garden. and a alcove for a statue of some sort ( me thinks marine )

a big machine god temple/factory with balcony

a geniric tall building

and a shot off all the buildings i made from the first box

due to making 2 big buildings i only got 8 buildings not 10 out off the box

23-03-2008, 18:57
Whey, looking good this already, BIG buildings! More impressive than mine!

Check out my CoD Log (Link in my sig) i'll be watching this one as we go!

03-04-2008, 08:46
ok my project stalled for a bit due to lack off time,

but now its here at last the

1'x1' bases

and the

2'x2' ones as well

also bought 2 3'x4' sections as the main board

plans for some off the sections are:

4 1'x1' sections with canal/drainageditch thing.
2 2'x1' sections with canal + bridges
2 1'x1' sections with 90* bends

6 1'x1' road sections
2 1'x1' roads with 90* turns

6 1'x1' buildings
4 2'x1' buildings

now the plan for the 2'x2' sections

ones was going to be a statue fountain, because all imp city's need some where for the peons to relax on the off day this was going to be on a stepped pyrimid but need to get the foam

the last 2'x2' section will be some sort off refinary/factory with loots off pipes
and will include a cannal end section moddled on with pipes discharging goo.

i also got this week

03-04-2008, 08:49
second update due to pic limit

out off the syberclics set i get 6 off these sprues

so after a bit off messing around i made some crates

then i neede some where for them to sit so i made a loading dock

loading dock with crates

03-04-2008, 09:07
Consider me subbed! Like the crates and dock.

03-04-2008, 09:33
A pretty neat idea :)

03-04-2008, 09:36
this is what my canals are going to look like

from the platformer set i think i can make more crates.

this pic has some examples on there cargo area

03-04-2008, 22:29
Man I love those sets, hane you seen the chemical plant set ?

04-04-2008, 06:45
yes i have a chem plant set as well.

05-04-2008, 14:57
This is looking nice so far. I'll be keeping an eye on it.:)

05-04-2008, 16:34
Look at all that nice cut up MDF, I hate you!

This is going to be nice though when its done, race ya!

05-04-2008, 20:46
2 stacks of barrels and crates with tarp over them, made from resin.

Where are these from? I want me some ;)

06-04-2008, 08:06
i picked them up at a show, and cant remeber the maker, which is a pity cause i want more :)

the sump tank came from this place

im tempted to get some barrels from them but they look to ordered.

they also sell these nice baricades

07-04-2008, 14:06
and here we are the 2 board sections made and fixed to the frames

the 2 borde sections use a pug and hole system to keep em together + catches on the side to hold em shut

i also found some grany grating ( stuff used for needlework ) going to use this for fencing etc

07-04-2008, 16:41
ok big update now, ive been marking out the 10mm MDF sections and here is what ive come up with

first up is the canal sections

the 4 straight section

the 2 corner sections

the 2 bridge sections. 1 foot bridge, and 1 road bridge.

all together now

07-04-2008, 16:43
ok next part are the roads

then we have the big 2'x2' refinary section

this section can act as a end/start for the road and the canal

07-04-2008, 16:44

samlpe lay out. using 2x 2'x1' buildings and 2x 1'x1' buildings.

leaving 5 1'x1' sections and 3x 2'x1' sections unused,

a normal game would prob use only the canal or road not both.

07-04-2008, 20:52
I like you modular layout,
Fairly original with different size bases and all :D

07-04-2008, 22:09
If your going to use styrofoam with the cardboard, do not use expanding foam to glue the two together. Also if your having trouble with your blades dulling to quick, give me a P.M.

10-04-2008, 20:06
Ok today all i've had time to do is work on the canal's. using 30mm wide wooden decrotive molding for the banks, this is wide enough for models to stand on with out falling off. the corners where cut at 45 angle using a mitre block, some filling with milliput is needed.

This image shows the outside corner + 2 straights

This image shows the inside corner + 2 straights

This image is a straight with tin can storage tanks ( not glued in place yet, there going to be 4-6 off them. the decrotive bit made using thin card ( frostys packet ), althoug these may move to the refinary section

showing the cannal end/start section on the refinery board. the end is still open as havent decided wether it is going to be coming out off a tunnel/building or have pipes feeding into it.

Ok plan tomoro is to seal all the cannal sections with 1part pva and 4 part water before i glue down fine sand over the banks to make the concrete look.

10-04-2008, 20:45
Liking how its all coming together mate. Can't wait to see the final thing. Subscribed!

12-04-2008, 19:24
ok i started work on the refinary/factory

starting with a polysterine core covered in card.

the main door that ends the road section, thick card with thin card for detail

13-04-2008, 14:27
Nicely done I can't wait to see more :D

01-05-2008, 03:20

01-05-2008, 12:02
Cool work thus far! I'll have an eye on this.

20-05-2008, 04:21
ooh this looks like something I might be able to pull off withthe COD imperial city box I just bought along with my armorcast stuff (ruined cathedral and a half-dozen of their soda can storage bin bases).

Keep going, please...

Still learning
24-05-2008, 04:20
Keep this **** up! I'm definatly watching this

24-05-2008, 05:16

Quality log here. Whats the piping made from?

07-06-2008, 23:10
This looks like its going to be completely mad when finished!

I'll be watching this closely!

09-06-2008, 07:42
Quality log here. Whats the piping made from?

Looks to me like it's good old-fashioned PVC pipe used for plumbing applications.

I'm impressed, overall, but I worry about the durability of the corrugated cardboard. One slip of a pewter model with a sword and it's punctured... one slip of a Chaos Dreadnought or daemon prince and it'll need to be remodeled. I'd recommend looking for some thick grade plasticard or even just using some 1/4" masonite or what-have you.

Can't wait to see more!

18-06-2008, 14:19
The piping is made from... dum da DUM - Piping!

You made my day Ocid :)

Good looking stuff. I'm thinking of doing some kind of steampunk-esque refinery as CD dark lands terrain.
