View Full Version : My first sculpt

09-04-2008, 06:05
Hi there. Seeing many of my other project logs being lost due to lack of discipline/loss of interest/real life, i decided to actually start the project before the log.

This sculpt started out as a piece of wire and some fimo 5 o'clock in the morning 2 days ago. Since, I've worked on it a few hours now and then, and it's starting to take shape.

I'm still not sure if he'll be a renegade big mutie or an ogre/giant hybrid (or ogre slavegiant), but here i bring you: Tiny the Big Guy until further notice.

Front view

Rear view

Oh, and the obligatory pet picture ;)

I'd really love some input and constructive criticism.

Well, i'll just keep talking to myself.

Hand. This looks a lot better irl since i wasn't able to get a good angle on it. Still very WIP

And some work on the left leg: trousers, started boots and a kneepad (i've decided to make this a big(ger) renegade mutie.

Hoping for a few comments.

It's looking pretty good so far, looks like its going to turn out pretty well.

Great quality for a first sculpt.

Thank you sir.

At the moment i'm waiting for the greenstuff to harden, after that i will finish the right leg and start working on the left one. He might get a pair of feet/boots sometime soon too if he's lucky.

C&C appreciated

only joking...

Wow thats really very good for a first sculpt, i hope he ends up looking as scary as that dog!

09-04-2008, 22:33
Dude, that green stuff stole your paintbrush!

10-04-2008, 02:13
Nice work. Is the paint brush temporary or are you going to make it look like a spear or scythe? Do you get "The Dog Whisperer" TV show in Copenhagen? It looks like Cujo needs some help.

I hope so too. If only the greenstuffgods would steal like, Seb Perbets skills and give them to me... Meh, I'll dream on.

Dude, that green stuff stole your paintbrush!
Oh really?! This time he's really gone too far! Martha, where's my 7.62mm?

No, it's permanent, he's gonna run around the grim darkness of the 41st millenium and bash people with a paintbr... No, wait.

I haven't thought about what his weapon will be, but a scythe sounds like it could be cool.

Thanks for all the comments. Keep it up.

Updates in a moment (or later today. Lazy me)

EDIT: Not so lazy me: I did some sculpting (by some, i mean almost none at all) but at least i took you a couple of pictures)

The stuff done was to sculpt the start of the groinpiece of the trousers (of the...). Second was the beginning of his left boot and a chaos star cut mark on his belly. And then a bit o' touching up a few places like where the trousers meet the belt and a few more folds to his clothing. Pictures:

I also started sculpting his metal glove/brass knuckle from hell thingie

And last, a scale comparison shot with my broth... No, eldar ranger i mean.

Done a wee bit more work on the right leg, with the left one being as good as finished. The belly needs some smoothing out and he needs a pair of boots. Oh, and there be gasmask (pic when i can get to the other computer and upload them). After that i guess it's just the torso (which i'm pretty happy with at the moment, just a bit of smoothin out), finishing the right hand+glove and do the left. Oh, and then i can start doing all the fiddly details. Pics in an hour or so

Time for an update, if nothing else, jut for myself.

First a picture of me wearing the gasmask that i'm using trying to copy.

Then the true updates.

The pics are a wee bit poo as the feet are not dry, so i have to hold the model with one of my shaky hands while taking pics with the other. Proper pic if you want when the feet are dry.

And the ring that collects all the leather straps on the back.

Nothing's complete yet, so everything's very rough at the moment. But that will of course be changed.

By the way, I'm kinda stuck on the mask. Should I do it like the one in the photo, or do it with two vents like... Y'know, the ones with two vents.

Really hoping for some c+c.

Hmm, I like your sculpt, but the head looks like.. mutated. Twisted. Or he can see well to his right. Otherwise, keep up good work!

12-04-2008, 16:49
Thanks for the quick input. Yeah, I made the same thoughts, and you're right. I think i'll have to twist the head a lot more to the left so it'll be looking at the weapon/impaled eldar/whatever my twisted mind comes up with.

Sorry for not having updating in a loooong time, but i've had exams (or trying to find a place to take my exams since my school (or it's leader) didn't like me and refused me to take them)

I'll take pictures tommorrow (or today, and upload them tommorrow).

In the past month i've done quite a lot of painting. Started a few projects for national painting competition, started a vampire army and i got my first true commission (well, first private person commission) so i'll have a lot of stuff to paint and hopefully quite a lot to show off too.

Peace out.

So much for my word... Sorry (if anyone cares), but i had misplaced the camera and only just found it. Well, first off... Nah, i'll just post the pictures instead:

The main bloke

One of the like, 18 ghouls the redshirts of gw Copenhagen gave me for free (along with a giant bitz bag, 2 Yriels, a t-shirt, a buttload of dice and a few books),on WFB's 25th anniversary. I really like these models and find these way cooler than the new ones.

And a finished one without base

Oh my... This looks like a double post...

14-05-2008, 17:56
Another project o' mine: True scale pre-heresy iron warriors. I'm almost finished... a single marine and started work on the next, and on Perturabo himself. I had a little accident with the first one who finds himself lying in pieces, and i have no superglue at the moment

His legs

Had just sanded down the torso, so the pic is very rough

And his fist (tis' a big 'un)

Woohoo! Triple post. 'Ere we go.

14-05-2008, 18:28
My last current project (at the moment): Vampires. Here is the newest one. Notice, only the foot (i repeat, The Foot) is finished rest needs a remake.

The old one (just a tester for the nmm and the colour scheme of the army)

Harry the Hammers shield

And last but not least, Perturabo himself. The photo obviously sucks, but when i had done what i had done (which isn't an awful lot yet since i'm waiting for the green stuff to cure) i actually thought 'Hey, this actually looks like it works'

Comments and criticism are very much appreciated.

Peace out

Hold it just there. Looking good so far. How are you going to make an armature for Perturabo? Is the face finished?

Excellent painting.

Great work on the sculpt.

14-05-2008, 18:59
It is very WIP at the moment. Only done two or three layers yet. The gs is still rough (will be smoothed out in next step) but i really think he's got a lot of expression. It's hard to see in the picture. I couldn't get a good shot as he has no armature yet.

Speaking of which, the armature will just be made out of wire.

Thanks for the comments keep 'em coming.

Peace out

Well, less yappin', more snappin': It's piccie time! (as if anyone has been waiting...)

Well, i found some old eldar and decided to practice painting black, white and nmm. By doing a totally monochrome eldar army.

Harlequin (the colours are really ****ed up in this pic... The leg for an example is highlighted in like 15 layers from dark grey to something like fortress grey+white):

And then another attempt to do nmm. This is actually my best shot so far as some people actually first thought that it was metal:

Well, as always, i hunger for c&c

Peace out

18-05-2008, 17:06
the base on that harlequin is fanastic, i think i may have to nick that idea!

19-05-2008, 05:29
Woohoo! :D Comments :D :p (that might be a slight overuse of smileys, but i felt like it)

Well, thank you.

At the moment i'm trying to put together a diorama fearuring a ranger, a death jester, a harlequin, a troupe master, a guardian and a striking scorpion, just for the heck of it (and to actually finish some models that might become an army)

Piccies in about ten minutes.

Guess what? Those ten minutes are over:

A Blood Guard space marine. I needed to make one because Levett's were so bloody darn cool.

Looks like we have a double post coming...

19-05-2008, 05:56
Okay... Here's the back of the ranger/pathfinder/outcast/whatever. The belt buckle thingie came out pretty nice methinks:

Death Jester. Though the pics are not as horrible as i expected, they still don't do the model justice i think... (no room for crying smileys due to 4 picture limit)

And last i got the diorama. All the marines/marine equipment/torn off marine limbs will be painted up to be imperial fists to: A) add some color to the models, and B) to give me an excuse for painting yellow:

Close up of dead vet.:

Well, c&c welcome as always

Peace out

Monochrome Eldar sounds like fun, looks kinda spooky, me like. What's that last model?

20-05-2008, 22:02
The last model was an imperial fist veteran sarge so i could at a little bit of colour to the bases. At the moment though, I'm thinking about changing that to pre-heresy (yeah yeah, i know...) Emperor's Children with cool, graceful, spiky blades and long flowing blonde hair. Oh, and chest eagles of course.

Piccies some time tommorrow

22-05-2008, 12:54
Okay... So... I managed to misplace the big(ger) mutie sculpt and the perturabo... And my camera decided to take a trip to Thailand. So i might have to use my brothers *shudder* Phone Camera (of doom).

Still, the lack of comments isn't exactly encouraging, but well, which part of the log is so boring?

Pics later today.

26-05-2008, 20:57
Okay... So no comments... I'll take a few pics (horrible light+phone camera though) and maybe that could help a little.

27-05-2008, 22:18
Don't be put off by the lack of comments, I sometimes get hardly any and end up double or even triple posting - just stick with it.

I think your problem (and I suffer the same) is that you skip from one project to the next and make slow progress on everything. Stick with one thing, get it done and then move on to the next (I then try and coax people to post what they would like me to paint next but it doesn't always work!;))

28-05-2008, 08:29
Thank you, at last i get criticism :D

Well, on the 'stick-with-one-project'-thing... The reason i started this thread decided to disappear into the warp or something. But i am sticking to two different projects at the moment.

I'm sorry for the slow updates, but my camera's on a trip to Thailand at the moment, and I can't really get myself to take pictures with a *shudder* phone-camera. Maybe i should just do that.

Really, thanks for the comment :D
