okay two questions, one:

I:: does anyone actually use the campaign system from the rulebook? i ask because i almost every fleet list i have seen online have been akin to "would someone care to critique my fleet, its somewhat small alas at on 77,000pts.. should i add another dozen battleships or go with escorts?"

II: what are the best lists you can make using just the ships from just the boxed game? (that is, i have a copy and am planning on assembling the ships this week for a game but cant decided what to do them as)

I: I haven't ever used it, but it looks interesting. There's not enough players around here to really run a campaign. As for the big fleets... it's inevitable with a game as inexpensive as BFG. Some people come in from 40k with 40k-level budgets, and ::poof:: you got your 10,000 points.

II: For chaos, build at least one Carnage and at least one Devastation. Once you have those it's hard to go wrong.
For imperials, I'd go with 1+ Dominators and at least one of either a Dictator or a Mars.

I: Never do it yet. It is difficult to find oppenents over here. :(

II: This definitely depends on your focus. Do you like ordnance or not? I built my ships without carrier types (IN: Gothic, Dominator, 2xLunar, CF: Hades, Murder, 2xSlaughter). It was also proposed by some people to use Bluetac to switch the configuration of your ships. Please be more specific what you mean with best lists.

Have fun,

thanks chaps! :) (tho any other suggestions are welcome)

ordnance.. i like torpedoes but i'm not to fond of fighters/bombers/assault boats, tho i cant say why..

bluetac.. i'm currently planning on trying PVA glue instead :)

best list.. i meant that in the sense of the best opposing lists to get a good game (as opposed to say, having a list that would beat the other hands down every time)

rare earth magnets.

Where to you fit rare earth magnets on a cruiser weapons platform without making it stick up or out?

And be careful how low you go on ordnance, cause fighters are your best defense against enemy waves. I'd hesitate to go under 4 bays per 1000 points.

im a fan of ordnance as well, although i too prefer torps. maybe because my entire fleet has them (Ork planet fleet).

theyre great to launch when you get nice and close... other than that, a little useless, as things just move out the way...

also fighters are good... very good, and perfect for getting rid of damn things like thunderhawks (though theyre still nasty, i find) or other things like that. i tend not to sue assault boats. im not perfect on the rules for them (never really got the rules for 'em) and i just donrt like them. i prefer bommers, when the shields are down. a good salvo can cause a heck of alot of damage againt something with low turret value...

not like my hulks 6 turrets...

they make some extremely small magnets, i was thinking maybe for some of the larger ships is what i thought and saw some of the side metal panels for different ships, thats what i was thinking.

i am just getting started in BFG and since your talking about ordnance, when your ordnance is launched, how long does it stay away from the ship? till its dead or or what? because i am asking some of the ship say like 2 squadrons and so i launch 2 bases, right, reload next turn, can i launch 2 more and if the 2 before werent killed off then you have 4 right? and how far are they allowed from the ship?

i havent gotten to play yet but i am in the assembly and paint stage right now and want to know how many i need to paint up.

i have a marine fleet and an eldar fleet, and i am going to use the imperial fighters for thunderhawks with marines due to cost/availability. i guess ill figure out something for the eldar fighters.

one more question, mines, i cant figure out if marines use them or not, can someone put me in the right direction?

Not sure on the current rules.

Originally you'd launch, reload and launch until you jammed up.

Then, experimentally, you were limited to no more Attack Craft (Bombers, Fighters etc.) than you had launch bays.

Check the Specialist Games site to be sure.

I am about to particapte in a campaign and will let all know how it turns out. I think the game is awesome and have always wanted to do campaigns.
